Abstract

Based on the 21st century there are 6 skills of students that need to be developed such as: Critical thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Culture/Citizenship, and Character education/connectivity. To achieve proficiency in a language, it is crucial to develop strong communication skills. For young learners, a good starting point is to focus on memorizing vocabulary, since this will enhance their fluency in speaking. Teaching vocabulary to young learners is challenging, though, as the teacher must utilize an effective teaching method that accommodates the needs of each student. This study focused on the effect of linguistic landscape in project-based learning on students’ vocabulary mastery. This study was conducted at SD Negeri 1 Banjar Jawa, the method used by the researcher was pre-experimental with pre-test and post-test as the instruments to collect the data. The result of this study demonstrated that using the linguistic landscape in project-based learning has a major impact on students' vocabulary mastery. Based on the findings of the pre-and post-tests, students' post-test scores increased significantly after their treatment. Students in class V.B. enthusiastically engaged in the project-based learning process, following its phases and ending in the creation of a linguistic landscape as a final product over the course of six meetings.

Abstract

Inclusive education is still something new in Indonesia's education system. Teachers have an essential role in the learning process, and teachers' perceptions of inclusive classes influence the quality of inclusive class implementation. For this reason, this research aims to analyse teachers' perceptions of implementing inclusive classes. This research was carried out using a survey method involving 285 teachers in Indonesia as respondents. The data in this study was collected using a questionnaire consisting of several closed and several open questions. The collected data was then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Based on the quantitative data, this research found that teachers in Indonesia have positive perceptions of implementing inclusive classes. However, from the qualitative data, it was found that they still feel they need more knowledge to implement quality inclusive classes. Additionally, training regarding implementing inclusive classes is still very limited, so it has yet to make teachers feel confident in implementing inclusive classes. Thus, this study concludes that teachers in Indonesia positively perceive implementing inclusive classes but cannot implement them optimally. So, support from the government, especially the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, to facilitate education and training in implementing inclusive classes for teachers is necessary to realize inclusive classes and quality inclusive education.

Abstract

This study aims to develop project-based learning activities in English classes for implementing the Merdeka curriculum in the 7th grade second semester. This study has an objective purpose. First to describe the specification of PJBL activities needed, second to describe the kinds of PJBL activities that result from its specification, and last, to analyze the quality of the development result. At the end, this study resulted in the book module with PJBL design. ADDIE from Kurt (2018) was used as a model in developing the book. The book was designed based on needs analysis obtained from teacher-student questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis. The results of the needs analysis provided PJBL activity specifications that emphasize the relevance of PJBL activities to the syllabus, as well as student characteristics, Pancasila Student Profile emphasis, and 6C (communication skills, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, computational thinking, and compassion skills). The eight steps of implementing PjBL by Hamidah (2020) were used to develop this book. Therefore, two kinds of books' modules are developed by the researcher: a teacher’s book and a student's book. And the last is product quality test results; it showed that the PJBL Activity Book has amazing quality materials in the aspects of content, language, and media. With the Greogory’s Result 1.00 it means very good quality. Therefore, this study provided references regarding PJBL activities in book form for teachers to use in English learning and also for the students to learn English material.

Abstract

Sustainable development goal (SDG) 4 and 5 prioritize equal opportunities for all genders and socioeconomic backgrounds to get education. Textbook shapes students' perspectives on gender roles and possibilities for themselves and others thus playing a pivotal role in promoting equality and diversity in education. However, certain English as a foreign language (EFL) textbooks still uphold such biases in their content and images. Thus, this study aimed at describing the gender pictorial in the EFL textbook “When English rings the bells”. Applying textual along with multimodal analysis, this study analyzes the textbook following Pierce’s semiotics. Providing an in-depth analysis of how gender is represented, this study discovered that the textbook still perpetuates gender stereotypes in three areas: i) pictorial of the characters, ii) gender attributes, and iii) traditional roles. It also makes efforts to break these stereotypes by portraying diverse professions and activities. Hence, it may be inferred that the textbook made an effort to analyze and dismantle the notion of gender, yet ultimately reinforced existing preconceptions. It suggests that students can be encouraged to challenge traditional gender roles and aspire to a broader range of careers and life choices by promoting more diverse representations of males and females in textbooks.

Abstract

One of the challenges in educational places is to make a suitable program, which is expected to help the students to be more active in teaching and learning processes, especially in English class. One of the institutions that provides English programs is Fadhilatul Islmiyah Islamic Boarding School. Then, this study aims to evaluate the English program, namely the Integration of English Language Learning Program. The evaluation uses the CIPP model by Stufflebeam (1971). The study uses a qualitative method with a case study. The participants are five students, two teachers, and a headmaster at Fadhilatul Islmiyah Islamic Boarding School. The data analysis uses thematic analysis from both teacher and student views following context, input, process, and product stages. The context evaluation showed the students' need to learn grammar and vocabulary. Input evaluation found that the curriculum, syllabus, and textbook are designed by the English teacher. Process evaluation found that the teacher used game and role-play strategies to improve student's speaking skills. Lastly, product evaluation is used to determine whether the program is effective or not, and it uses a test. Then, it found that the result of the post-test was higher than the pre-test.
