Abstract

The current study aimed at investigating parental involvement in developing children’ English literacy skill. This study was a descriptive qualitative conducted in Aura Sukma Insani school Bali. To conduct the study, questionnaire, interview and observation were employed. The results showed that the parental involvement programs in Aura Sukma Insani Bilingual Kindergarten were parents conference, parents’ interview, final report, and eco-enzyme. The specific programs which involved parents applied four out of six parental involvement frameworks proposed by Epstein et al., (2002). Parenting was applied through giving parents’ guidance book about the learning process. Then, decision making was applied through asking parents’ decision about learning which will be applied. During the implementation of parental involvement programs, A number of problematic challenges exist in the parents' involvement implementation at Aura Sukma Insani Kindergarten. According to the interpretation level of the teacher's perspective, decision-making and collaborating with the community had the most problematic Challenges. Overall, the teachers faced at least one to two challenges in every type of involvement. The problems mostly came from fewer responses obtained due to the less effective activities. This imperfection could be fixed if these two pasties, the parents and the school, recognized their interchangeable roles were important.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the writing anxiety experienced by eleventh-grade students in learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Bali. By conducting a quantitative research method, this research involved 76 students as the participant of the study. The research employed an adapted questionnaire from Cheng (2004), consisting of 27 designed statements. The result revealed that many students face challenges with writing anxiety in English. The findings showed that linguistic challenges, such as concerns about using expressions and sentence patterns incorrectly, and time constraints like feeling stressed under time pressure, significantly contribute to writing anxiety. Additionally, the positive aspect of the study demonstrated that students actively work to minimize mistakes in their writing, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in managing writing anxiety which may imply the motivation to learn English.

Abstract

In English learning, students often struggle to understand the material, especially in mastering writing skills, one of the most difficult skills to be mastered. A well-chosen teaching technique and method will significantly impact students’ learning outcomes. The current study aimed to investigate the effect of the application of the shape poem technique combined with the project-based learning on students’ writing skills. This study employs a quantitative research approach using a pre-experimental design, one group pre-test post-test. This study involved 38 students of at SMPN 1 Singaraja as a sample. To conduct the study, tests were given before and after the treatment. The findings demonstrated that implementation of the shape poem technique led to substantial enhancements in students' writing skills, as evident from the pre-test and post-test scores. The test result shown that students’ gain better outcomes in post-test which after the treatment was given. It is also supported by the t-test result that shown the significant level was below the alpha level (α = 0.05), indicated the alternative hypothesis was accepted, that there is a significant effect on 7th grade students’ writing skills. The combination of shape poem technique and project-based learning might provide a fresh viewpoint for teachers in teaching writing.

Abstract

Inclusive education is highly essential to provide equitable quality education and is included as one of the courses in the curriculum of the English Language Education Study Program of Ganesha University of Education since the year 2021. In spite of having been a part of the curriculum for three years, no research was conducted on how the course is implemented. The purpose of this study was to investigate the strategies used by the lecturer to teach the course. The research was in the form of a phenomenological design. There were 31 students and one lecturer involved in the study. The data was collected for one semester in 2023, and the techniques of data collection were observation, deep interviews, and document study. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The findings show that in one semester, the lecturer applied a strategy of teaching and learning process abbreviated as GROWFIT, which stands for guide (orientation), research (independent study), observe (to learn from real-world environments), workshop (presenting ideas in a workshop-style setting), feedback (engaging in discussion and providing feedback), improve (reviewing and refining skills based on feedback), and think (synthesizing knowledge in final projects and showcasing critical thinking). The implementation of GROWFIT yields positive perspectives from the students, and all the students passed the course. It is implied that the GROWFIT model implemented was essentially effective in enhancing students' understanding about inclusive education.

Abstract

Students with ASD have obvious characteristics that they have limitations in making communication and have low social awareness. For that reason, they need to be supported on how they can improve their communication ability. This research aimed to describe how the social environment is empowered and created to help students with ASD learn to communicate. The study's design was a multi-case study conducted in an inclusive school in North Bali. Three cases of students with ASD with their teachers, the school principal, and a technical assistant were involved as the study's subjects. The data were collected for 12 months and analyzed qualitatively. The study results show that several types of social environments were modified to teach students about basic communications such as morning circles, cooperative buddy programs, sensory garden programs, modelling, and go-play activities. The use of the programs functions as scaffolding, which then indicates improvements in the students ' social interactions and basic communication. The implication of this study suggests the importance of creating a supportive social environment program for students with ASD to enhance their social awareness and interaction.Students with ASD have obvious characteristics that they have limitations in making communication and have low social awareness. Abstract

This study aims to investigate teachers' perspectives on feedback in English language learning, especially in the Merdeka Curriculum. Three English teachers who teach at Junior High School were interviewed regarding their perspective on feedback, challenges in implementing feedback, and their views on the role of feedback in emphasizing the values of Pancasila Student Profile. A simple qualitative method was used in this study. The procedure includes data collection, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions from Miles et al. (2014) were used in this study. The study results show that teachers had a positive perspective on feedback; teachers stated that students' improvement, motivation, and progress are the main reasons they provide feedback. The teacher considered that the choice of words is essential in giving feedback. Meanwhile, time limitations are an obstacle for teachers in providing feedback. Also, teachers agree that feedback emphasizes the value of student independence by emphasizing students to be more independent in their respective learning processes. Also, teachers stated that feedback train students critical thinking as well as giving students the opportunity to make better progress and avoid making the same mistakes in their learning.

Abstract

This study investigates multilingual practices in Penglipuran Village, Bali, focusing on how Balinese, Indonesian, and English are used in daily tourism-related interactions. Over three months, participatory observation captured natural communication between villagers and tourists. Findings reveal that Balinese is primarily used for internal communication, Indonesian for domestic tourists, and English for foreign visitors, with flexible code-switching depending on context. These results highlight the community’s linguistic adaptability and cultural awareness, emphasising the role of local tour guides as cultural mediators. The study contributes to sociolinguistics in tourism by illustrating how multilingualism supports cultural preservation and enhances sustainable tourism experiences.
