Abstract

Kata kunci: Klasifikasi Suzuki dan Tsuchihashi, sidik bibir, suku melayu RiauAssociation between Lip Print Pattern and Riau Malay EthnicsLip print have long been used as one of the personal identification methods. Studies on the lip print pattern associated with ethnicity has not been widely available, especially in Indonesia. This was a  study aimed to identify association between lip printi patterns and pure strains of Riau Malay and non-Malay Riau. A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau, between July to August 2015. A total of 160 students who met the criteria were selected through simple random sampling. Exclusion criteria were lip anatomic abnormalities (labiochisis/labiopalatochisis), post trauma experience, and allergic to lipstick. The Vahanwal-Nayak-Pagare method was used for printing the lip pattern. Lip print pattern was established using Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classification on eight lip quadrants. Most subjects were non-Malay Riau 111 (69.4%) with the remainings were identified as (n=49, 30.6%). The statistical test showed a significant relation only in Quadrant 3 (p=0,04). It is concluded that lip print pattern can be used as an alternative method in personal identification; however, it cannot be used to distinguish the pure strains of the Riau Malay ethnics from the non-Riau Malay ethnics in the study population. Key words: Lip print, Riau Malay ethnic, Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classification

Abstract

Excessive usage of synthetic pediculicides, such as permethrin, lindane, and malathion, can induce resistance, environmental pollution, health problems, and even death. Efforts to prevent the side-effects of synthetic pediculicides are needed, one of which is by shifting to powerful yet safe natural pediculicides, such as Citrus limon (lemon) and Allium sativum (garlic). This study aimed to observe the effective concentration of Citrus limon and Allium sativum in vitro on the mortality of Pediculus humanus capitis (P. h. capitis). This research was an experimental laboratory study conducted in July to September 2019 in the Laboratory of Parasitology at Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau, while the making of Allium sativum extract was done at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, University of Riau. A total of 288 samples of adult P. h. capitis was taken from children in two orphanages in Pekanbaru. Citrus limon juice and Allium sativum extract of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% concentrations, permethrin 1% as the positive control, and distilled water as the negative control were used in this study, and repetition was done three times. P. h. capitis mortality was observed every 10 - 120 minutes, characterized by the absence of movement of the legs and antenna. Data analysis was performed after 120 minutes with the one-way ANOVA test, LSD (=0.05), and Lethal Concentration 50 test (LC50). The one-way ANOVA test results of this study showed that statistically Citrus limon juice and Allium sativum extracts showed differences in each treatment formulation of juice on P. h. capitis mortality (Sig 0.017<0.05 and Sig 0.000<0.05) and LC50 juice of Citrus limon and Allium sativum extract by 51.999% and 72.426%. In this study, Citrus limon juice and Allium sativum extract had effect as pediculicides.

Abstract

Pneumonia is a type of lower respiratory tract infection and the main cause of under-five mortality, especially in developing countries, with a mortality rate of 3 million each year. Pneumonia cases in children under five in Pelalawan Regency are quite high, namely 72.8% in 2018. Pneumonia is also influenced by climatic condi-tions and seasons. Parasites and disease vectors are very sensitive to climatic factors, especially temperature, humidity, and rainfall. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of season on the incidence of pneumonia in children under five in Pelalawan District. This type of research is analytic observational with a cross sectional approach. The study population was all patients with pneumonia under five who were recorded in the registration of 12 Puskesmas in Pelalawan Regency in 2018-2019. The research sample uses total sam-pling. Data analysis uses the Vector Autorgressive (VAR) method on time series data with time level being monthly data. The results showed that the trend of the number of pneumonia cases fluctuated approximately every 2 months, this was caused by the influence of the season, namely the rainy season and dry season. Mostly in the rainy season the number of pneumonia cases tends to experience an increasing trend. Based on statisti-cal tests, it is known that seasonal variables (rainfall, rainy days, humidity and temperature) have no signifi-cant effect on the incidence of pneumonia in children under five, but the R Square value in the modeling above is quite good, namely 0.655, meaning that 65.5% of the diversity of pneumonia cases can be explained. by these variables while the rest is explained by other variables outside the model. For this reason, it is hoped that the Puskesmas will campaign for the '5 M' program, especially in the rainy season (opening ventilation, entry of light, entry of air, maintaining house cleanliness and increasing body immunity). It is suggested to the Pelalawan District Health Office to monitor climate factors on an ongoing basis in the context of the pro-gram to eradicate pneumonia in children under five.
