Abstract

Purpose – This study examines the phenomena of rationalization and bureaucratization in the Indonesian education system, focusing on teachers’ administrative burdens and complaints related to educational digitalization. The study is grounded in the growing implementation of efficiency-oriented, technology-driven education policies that aim to simplify bureaucracy but are often perceived by teachers as increasing administrative burdens. Methodology – A qualitative research design with a document analysis approach was employed. Data were collected from online media reports published by KOMPAS and Kompas.id using purposive sampling to select articles addressing teachers’ administrative workloads, bureaucratic simplification, digital education applications, and policy responses. Data were analyzed using thematic content analysis, including data reduction, categorization, and thematic interpretation, guided by Max Weber’s concept of the iron cage of bureaucracy. Findings – Policies emphasizing efficiency, accountability, and administrative modernization paradoxically expanded teachers’ administrative workloads. Digitalization has generated new forms of bureaucracy that demand continuous adaptation, increase work pressure, and shift teachers’ focus from pedagogical practices to documentation and reporting tasks. Consequently, teachers’ professional autonomy is diminished, revealing a misalignment between policy objectives and teachers’ lived experiences. Novelty – This study contributes original insights by combining media discourse analysis with Weberian bureaucratic theory to reveal the unintended consequences of digitalization on teacher professionalism and identity. Significance – The study has significant implications for policymakers, school administrators, and education researchers by highlighting the need to reorient policy to prioritize pedagogical quality and teacher autonomy.

Abstract

Red alga Acanthophora spicifera is a marine species with potential as a source of natural antihistamines. This study evaluated the bioactivity of its secondary metabolites through in vivo, in vitro, and in silico approaches. Extracts were obtained by successive maceration using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. In vivo testing on BALB/c mice showed that extract administration did not cause significant weight loss. However, its effect on allergic symptoms was significant (p < 0.05), with the methanol extract identified as the most effective by the Mann–Whitney test. In vitro assays revealed a significant reduction in histamine levels (p < 0.05) during sensitization, treatment, and post-challenge phases, particularly in the methanol extract group. In silico docking demonstrated that two compounds from the methanol extract exhibited strong binding affinity to the H1 receptor (PDB ID: 3RZE), with binding energies of −6.27 and −5.06 kcal/mol. These findings suggest that A. spicifera, particularly its methanol extract, is a promising source of natural antihistamines with potential applications in the development of safer allergy treatments.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the emotional representation of the character Livia and analyze the language strategies used in the film Winter Elegy through psycholinguistic studies. The study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data in the form of Livia's speech containing emotional content were obtained through document study techniques and non-participant observation. The data were analyzed through stages of reduction, coding, classification based on Silvan S. Tomkins' basic emotion theory, then interpreted using Willem J. M. Levelt's speech production theory to reveal the relationship between emotions and language processes. The results show that from 31 speech data, four types of emotions were found, namely Interest/Excitement, Enjoyment, Surprise/Startle, and Distress/Anguish. Interest/Excitement and Surprise/Startle emotions dominate throughout the process of seeking truth, while Distress/Anguish reaches its peak at the stage of accepting loss. The most dominant language strategy is the articulation stage, followed by formulation, while conceptualization and self-monitoring appear in certain emotional situations. This research provides a scientific contribution by integrating Tomkins's theory of emotion and Levelt's speech production model to explain the relationship between affective aspects and linguistic processes in the representation of female characters in Indonesian films, thereby enriching psycholinguistic studies in the analysis of audiovisual works
