Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this study was to describe the thought processes of students in constructing the concept of function composition. The subjects were students of the 2nd half of the course Basic Mathematics II. There are 9 students who were asked to complete the one-time function composition written and simultaneously saying out loud what they think. Furthermore, six students have been selected as subjects. Selection of subject considers their communication skills. From this research, it is found three types of the description of thought processes of students, namely: construction complete thinking structure type, construction complete pseudo-thinking structure type, and incomplete structure type thinking.Key Words: thinking, constructing the concept, function, composition functionAbstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan proses berpikir mahasiswa dalam mengon-struksi konsep komposisi fungsi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester 2 matakuliah Matemati-ka Dasar II. Sembilan mahasiswa diminta menyelesaikan masalah komposisi fungsi secara tertulis dan sekaligus mengucapkan dengan keras apa yang dipikirkan. Selanjutnya 6 mahasiswa dipilih sebagai subjek. Pemilihan subjek mempertimbangkan kemampuan berkomunikasi mereka. Dari penelitian ini di-temukan 3 tipe deskripsi proses berpikir mahasiswa, yaitu tipe struktur berpikir konstruksi lengkap, tipe struktur berpikir konstruksi lengkap semu, dan tipe struktur berpikir tidak lengkap.Kata kunci: proses berpikir, mengonstruksi konsep, fungsi, komposisi fungsi

Abstract

Abstract: This research is a case study that explores the error in concept construction of undergraduate students’ with very negative mathematical identity. The construction was examined through the APOS theory. The student participating in the study was a student in the accounting department. Results showed that the student with very negative mathematical identity did not think much when choosing the most suitable measure of central tendency for a particular data. The student did not take into account the existence of outlier and mode, how the mean involves every data element, and whether the data distribution was normal or not. Abstrak: Penelitian ini merupakan studi kasus yang mengeksplor kesalahan konstruksi konsep mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis yang sangat negatif. Konstruksi konsep diteliti menggunakan kerangka APOS. Mahasiswa yang berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini merupakan mahasiswa pada jurusan akuntansi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis yang sangat rendah tidak berpikir banyak ketika memilih ukuran pemusatan yang sesuai untuk data yang diberikan. Subjek tidak mempertimbangkan eksistensi modus dan outlier, bagaimana mean melibatkan semua elemen data, dan apakah datanya berdistribusi normal atau tidak.

Abstract

Semantic is associated with the relationship between symbol, reference, and the problem’s context involved in the problem-solving process which also involves reasoning and decision-making. Hence, this study describes the characteristics of students’ semantic reasoning to solve the double discounts problem. 51 high school students in Sidoarjo participated in this qualitative study. The data were collected through 15-20 minutes problem-solving tests. The students' answers were grouped into correct and wrong answers. The correct answers were then regrouped once more based on the strategies used by the students to answer the test and to identify their semantic reasoning characteristics. The data were analyzed by reducing, classifying the think-aloud and observing. Then the similarity of characteristics of students' semantic reasoning when solving the double discount problem was identified. To test the accuracy of the data, triangulation method was used. This semantic reasoning was identified by  (1) giving the problem situation, (2) stating the keywords and their meaning, (3) stating the relationship, (4) transforming it into a mathematics statement, (5) calculating based on their strategies, (6) decision making, and (7) completing the answer interpretation. This study contributes to developing basic knowledge in interpreting each process of solving ill-structured problems until finding a solution.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose this study is to explore characterization of teacher's spontaneous example. Type a study is deskriptif kualitatif, subject is beginner teacher. The results show that three spontaneous examples characterization of beginner teacher such that illustrative spontaneous examples, clarified spontaneous examples, and confirmatory spontaneous examples. Illustrative spontaneous examples is given beginner teacher to illustrate students difficulty and explaned the new topic. Clarified spontaneous examples is given beginner teacher to clarified students difficulty and students error. Confirmatory spontaneous examples is given beginner teacher to confirm mathematics concept and understanding of students contents.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi karakterisasi contoh spontan guru dalam pembelajaran matematika. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu kualitatif deskriptif, dengan subjek penelitian guru matematika pemula. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa tiga karakterisasi contoh spontan guru pemula yaitu contoh spontan ilustratif, contoh spontan klarifikatif dan contoh spontan konfirmatif. Contoh spontan ilustratif diberikan guru pemula untuk mengilustrasikan masalah kesulitan yang dialami siswa. Contoh spontan klarifikatif diberikan guru pemula untuk mengklarifikasi kesalahan siswa. Contoh spontan konfirmatif diberikan guru pemula untuk mengonfirmasi bahwa siswa telah memahami materi yang dibahas.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze and describe the mathematical representation of children with special needs of the type of celebral in solving math problems in inclusive schools. This study uses a case study method with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were children with special needs of the type of celebral palsy who were members of the inclusive school, namely the sixth grade students of Muhammad Hatta Islamic Elementary School in Malang. The results showed that children with special needs of the type of celebral palsy were able to do representations well.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan representasi matematis anak berkebutuhan khusus tipe celebral palsy dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika di sekolah inklusi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah anak berkebutuhan khusus type celebral palsy yang tergabung dalam sekolah inklusi, yaitu siswa kelas VI SD Islam Muhammad Hatta kota Malang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa anak berkebutuhan khusus tipe celebral palsy telah mampu melakukan representasi dengan baik.

Abstract

The purpose of the study describes the rises of cognitive load of students in learning geometry. The study used a qualitative approach. The results showed that the intrinsic cognitive load is derived from the number of elements of interactivity of position, distance, and angles between points, lines, and areas, congruency of triangles, algebraic and fractional operations. Intrinsic cognitive load comes from the complexity of the learning material that constitutes visualizing, performing algebraic operations,  determining congruency triangle, and the angle of difficulties. Extraneous cognitive load that arise due to the way the teacher in explaining too fast and disturbance of some of friends who are crowded / noisy. Germane cognitive load that arises due to the use of Cabri 3D in learning and giving variable exampleTujuan penelitian mendeskripsikan munculnya beban kognitif siswa dalam pembelajaran materi geometri. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa beban kognitif intrinsic disebabkan oleh jumlah elemen interaktivitas yaitu kedudukan, jarak, dan sudut antara titik, garis, dan bidang, kesebangunan segitiga, operasi aljabar, dan operasi pecahan. Beban kognitif intrinsic disebabkan oleh kompleksitas materi, yaitu kesulitan membayangkan, kesulitan melakukan operasi aljabar, kesulitan menentukan kesebangunan segitiga, dan kesulitan menentukan besar sudut. Beban kognitif extraneous disebabkan oleh cara guru dalam menjelaskan terlalu cepat dan gangguan dari sebagian teman yang ramai/gaduh. Beban kognitif germane disebabkan oleh penggunaan Cabri 3D dalam pembelajaran dan pemberian latihan soal.

Abstract

The objective of the study is to the produce students’ worksheet using the Guided Discovery Learning it is valid, practical and effective. This is a research and developmental design which adopted the model of Plomp. This developmental model includes phases preliminary research, prototyping phase and assessment phase. The subject of this study is the students of class VII MTs Labbaika Samarinda. The result of the study shows that the LKS is in the category of valid with mean 3,40. The result of the try-out show that it fulfills the practicality aspect which is useful and achieves the category of high with mean 3,77. The worksheet is also effective. It was proved by (1) 85,29% of students, who take the subject of mathematics using worksheet developed, achieve the minimum passing grade and (2) All students give positive response to the activities of learning and teaching of mathematics using developed worksheet.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan LKS bercirikan Guided Discovery Learning yang memenuhi kriteria valid, praktis dan efektif. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan yang mengadopsi model pengembangan Plomp yang meliputi tahapan preliminary research, prototyping phase, dan assessment phase. Penelitian ini melibatkan siswa kelas VII MTs Labbaika Samarinda sebagai subjek uji coba. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa LKS yang dikembangkan berada pada kategori valid dengan skor rata-rata 3,40. Berdasarkan hasil uji coba yang dilakukan, diperoleh bahwa LKS yang dikembangkan memenuhi aspek kepraktisan, yaitu hasil observasi keterlaksanaan pembelajaran oleh guru dan siswa menggunakan LKS berada pada kategori tinggi dengan skor rata-rata 3,77. LKS juga memenuhi aspek keefektifan. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat dari (1) 85,29% siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran menggunakan LKS yang dikembangkan mampu melampaui nilai KKM dan (2) seluruh siswa memberikan respon positif pada kegiatan pembelajaran dan LKS yang dikembangkan.

Abstract

Abstract: Analogy reasoning ability is the ability of students to connect two problems. Students' ability to overcome problems can be seen from Adversity quotient (AQ), one type of AQ is the climber. This study aims to identify the analogy reasoning of climber type students. The instruments used in this study were test questions and interviews. The results of this study in solving the problem of climber type students try hard to identify important information in the problem, determine the problem solving strategy based on similarity relationships to solve the problem between two problems and apply in solving problems to find problem solving.Abstrak: Kemampuan penalaran analogi merupakan kemampuan siswa dalam menghubungkan dua masalah. Kemampuan siswa dalam mengatasi masalah dapat dilihat dari Adversity quotient (AQ), salah satu tipe dari AQ adalah climber. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi penalaran analogi siswa tipe climber. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah soal tes dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian ini dalam menyelesaikan masalah siswa tipe climber berusaha keras mengidentifikasi informasi penting dalam masalah, menentukan strategi penyelesaian masalah berdasarkan hubungan kemiripan penyelesaian masalah antara dua masalah, serta menerapkan dalam penyelesaian masalah hingga menemukan penyelesaian masalah.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to describe the algebraic reasoning of junior high school students in solving mathematical problems in terms of Adversity Quetients. The study was conducted in Tarus Self-help Junior High School. The stages of students’ algebraic reasoning in solving problems were generalisation activities, transformation activities, and global metal-level activities. The instruments used in this study were ARP instruments (Adversity Response Profile), algebraic reasoning tests, and interview guidelines. The results of this study showed that the Climber students did algebraic reasoning on generalisation activities, transformation activities, and global metal-level activity. The Camper students only did algebraic reasoning on general activities. While Quitter students did not do algebraic reasoning on all activities.Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini mendeskripsikan penalaran aljabaris siswa SMP dalam memecahkan masalah matematika ditinjau dari Adversity Quotient. Penelitian dilakukan di SMP Swadaya Tarus Kupang. Tahap penalaran aljabaris siswa dalam memecahkan masalah yaitu, yaitu aktivitas generalisasi, aktivitas transformasi, dan aktivitas level-meta global. Intrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah instrumen ARP (Adversity Response Profile), tes penalaran aljabaris, dan pedoman wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa Climber melakukan penalaran aljabaris pada aktivitas generalisasi, aktivitas transformasi dan aktivitas level-meta global. Siswa Camper hanya melakukan penalaran aljabaris pada aktivitas generalisasi saja, sedangkan siswa Quitter tidak melakukan penalaran aljabaris pada semua aktivitas.

Abstract

This study describes the creative thinking in RME learning material of algebra. The research was conducted in VIIIH grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Jepara. This study used a qualitative approach and data were analyzed by descriptive-explorative. The result showed that the aspects of students' creative thinking include: fluency, flexibility and novelty in solving problems related to equation linear systems of two variables. Fluency aspect is characterized by the students were able to express ideas and mathematical ideas fluently and correctly in solving problem. Flexibility aspect is characterized by the students are able to use various means and strategies that vary properly in solving problem. Novelty aspect is characterized by the students were able to use a new way, or different from the others in solving problem.Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan tentang berpikir kreatif dalam pembelajaran RME materi aljabar. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada siswa kelas VIIIH SMP Negeri 1 Jepara. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan data hasil penelitian dianalisis secara diskriptif-ekploratif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berpikir kreatif siswa meliputi aspek: fluency, flexibility dan novelty dalam menyelesaikan masalah terkait sistem persamaan linear dua variabel. Aspek fluency ditandai dengan siswa mampu mengemukakan gagasan dan ide matematis secara lancar dan benar dalam menyelesaikan masalah. Aspek flexibility ditandai dengan siswa mampu menggunakan berbagai cara dan strategi yang berbeda-beda secara benar dalam menyelesaikan masalah. Aspek novelty ditandai dengan siswa mampu menggunakan dengan cara baru, atau berbeda dari yang lain dalam menyelesaikan masalah.
