Abstract

This research analyzes the role of self-efficacy in enhancing metacognitive and academic performance of students through problem-solving as learning process. Researchers research some students from senior high school in Malang. This research uses mixed methods with surveys, interviews, and analysis of students’ learning outcomes. At the first meeting, students were asked to fill survey about the dimensions of self-efficacy, which are magnitude, strength, and generality. Moreover, researchers interviewed students to explore their metacognitive activities that they do, such as awareness, regulation, and evaluation. After that, researchers analyze their learning outcomes to determine their academic performance. This research result shows that students with a high dimension of self-efficacy tend to show better metacognitive activity than the other. Furthermore, students with a high dimension of self-efficacy tend to show better academic performance than others.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the thinking of male and female students in solving whole number problems based on APOS theory. This descriptive qualitative research was conducted with two subjects, namely one subject with male gender and one subject with female gender. Both subjects are students with high mathematics ability. Subject selection was carried out using purposive sampling. Subjects were selected based on the scores obtained on the math problem test sheet. This research was conducted at one of the State Junior High Schools in Malang Regency. The instruments used in this study were math problem test sheets on integers and interviews. The results showed that: 1) Male students are able to fulfill all thinking indicators in each APOS mental structure in solving problems. Male students solve math problems through mental structures of action, process, object, and scheme; 2) Female students are able to fulfill all thinking indicators on each APOS mental structure in solving problems. Female students solve math problems through action, process, object and scheme mental structures.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mistakes of grade XI students in solving statistical problems based on the Newman Error Analysis (NEA) stages. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with the research subjects of 30 high school students in Praya for the 2025/2026 school year. Data were collected through descriptive tests, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model through the stages of reduction, presentation and drawing of conclusions. The results showed that students still made mistakes at almost all stages of Newman, including: reading errors (0.64%), comprehension errors (22.29%), transformation errors (26.75%), process skills errors (23.56%), and encoding errors (26.75%). The most mistakes occur in the transformation and writing stages, while the least mistakes occur in the reading stage. Factors that cause student errors include lack of understanding of concepts, mistakes in choosing formulas, inaccuracy in calculations, and the habit of not writing conclusions. The results of this study are expected to be a guideline for teachers in developing more efficient learning strategies to reduce student errors in statistical materials.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ creative thinking abilities in solving open-ended problems in geometry transformation material. The problem used in this study was designed as a multiple solution task (MST) because it provides students with opportunities to generate more than one strategy or solution. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 27 students of Class XII-B at a Catholic senior high school in Surabaya. Data were collected through a written test and interviews and were then analyzed based on the indicators of fluency, flexibility, and novelty. The findings show that students were classified into three creativity groups. S1 represented the high-creativity group and demonstrated novelty through a non-routine strategy and by rechecking the solution. S2 represented the moderate-creativity group and demonstrated fluency and flexibility by producing more than one form of solution and using several methods, although the variation remained limited. S3 represented the low-creativity group and did not yet demonstrate fluency or flexibility because the student used only one method and produced a single answer. These findings indicate that open-ended problems in the form of MST can reveal differences in students’ creative thinking abilities in geometry transformation material.
