Abstract

Smoking remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, with occupation playing a key role in shaping smoking behavior. This study investigated how occupational type affects smoking behavior among Indonesian adults. This study was using data from the 2021 Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS), which included 9,155 respondents. The dependent variable was smoking behavior (daily smoker, non-daily smoker, or never smoker), and the main independent variable was occupational type. Control variables included age, gender, education level, and place of residence. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, chi-square test, ANOVA, and multinomial logistic regression. The results showed that 25.47% of adults were daily smokers, 5.95% were non-daily smokers, and 68.57% were never smokers. Most participants were unemployed (47.67%), indoors workers (15.03%), outdoors (32.90%), or in both settings (4.40%). Bivariate analysis revealed significant associations between smoking behavior and type of occupation, gender, education, place of residence, and age. Daily smoking was more common among men, individuals with lower education, rural residents, and outdoor workers. Multivariate analysis indicated that outdoor workers were significantly more likely to smoke daily than indoor workers (OR = 1.36–1.96). Compared with unemployed individuals, those occupation indoors, outdoors, and in both environments were 1.82, 2.87, and 2.94 times more likely to smoke daily, respectively. These findings suggest that employment, especially outdoor employment, is strongly associated with daily smoking. Targeted smoking prevention programs should prioritize outdoor workers, men, rural residents, and those with lower education levels.

Abstract

The evaluation of the "SIMPUS" software in Semarang City is motivated by the existence of a dental medical record information system within the “SIMPUS” application. However, some menus are not yet aligned with the required standards. In addition, there is a new discourse on the use of dental data as a means of human identification in disaster events. The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the implementation of a standardized dental medical record information system, as well as to establish and test a system capable of supporting decision-making in human identification. This research employed a quantitative descriptive method to evaluate the use of the “SIMPUS” software in Semarang City. Data collection was carried out through interviews and observations. The research subjects were dental therapists and dentists at community health centers (puskesmas) within the jurisdiction of the Semarang City Health Office. Data were analyzed using a quantitative descriptive approach. The results showed that the “SIMPUS” software in Semarang City is user-friendly as a Dental Medical Record Information System, although some codes occasionally do not appear. The system is comprehensive, and the data output matches the input provided. However, the feature for human identification using dental charts is not yet available, and there is no display of individual baseline data related to odontogram codes. The “SIMPUS” software in Semarang City is accepted by users as a Dental Medical Record Information System that meets national dental record standards. It can be used by community health centers to manage patient registration data, medical records, and generate monthly disease reports (LB1) and dental treatment reports. However, patient search features based on odontogram codes are not yet available, and further research is needed.

Abstract

Approximately 60% of acceptors expressed dissatisfaction with contraceptive counseling services, which has resulted in a 0.7% decrease in modern contraceptive use in the last five years. One important factor in the sustainability of contraceptive use is the suitability of the acceptor's medical condition. This study aimed to determine the relationship between medical appropriateness and plans for continued use of the IUD-Cu. This study used a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected through structured interviews using a Medical Eligibility Criteria (MEC) application-based questionnaire. This application was created by WHO based on the 5th edition of the 2015 MEC for Contraceptive use guidebook. The sample was purposively selected, and 280 IUD-Cu acceptors were obtained. Univariate analysis was performed with frequency distribution and categorization of medical eligibility, while bivariate analysis used Chi-Square test and Prevalence Ratio (PR) with 95% CI. The results showed that 92.9% of acceptors were medically fit to use IUD-Cu, while 7.1% were not fit. A total of 12.1% of acceptors planned to change contraceptives. There was a significant association between medical eligibility and plans to continue using the IUD-Cu (p = 0.000; PR = 3.077; 95% CI: 1.574-6.015), indicating that medically eligible acceptors had 3.077 times greater potential to continue using the IUD-Cu than those who were not eligible. Therefore, it is recommended to optimize pre-installation screening of IUD-Cu with medical criteria-based tools so that the sustainability of contraceptive use can be maintained and women's reproductive rights are maximally fulfilled.

Abstract

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) represent a persistent and evolving public health challenge globally. In Hongkong, various community-based organizations have been instrumental in reaching underserved populations with culturally competent sexual health services. However, despite the growing importance of community actors, they often operate with limited resources, face inconsistent support from public institutions, and struggle with sustainability. Many community organizations lack sufficient training, funding, data access, and policy influence to operate at full capacity and to scale their work meaningfully. The community service activities carried out in this initiative have shown significant positive outcomes in enhancing the knowledge and attitudes of Indonesian female migrant workers in Hongkong regarding reproductive health and STD prevention. Through culturally sensitive counseling and the distribution of educational leaflets in Bahasa Indonesia, the program successfully reached a population that often faces barriers to health information and services. Participants demonstrated a clear increase in understanding of basic reproductive health topics, including STD symptoms, transmission methods, and preventive behaviors. More importantly, the activities helped normalize conversations around sexual health, reducing stigma and empowering women to seek testing and medical support when necessary. The peer-led approach played a crucial role in building trust and encouraging open dialogue. In conclusion, this initiative demonstrates that targeted, culturally relevant community service activities can effectively improve both awareness and attitudes toward reproductive health among marginalized groups. Strengthening such community-based efforts will be essential for advancing sexual health equity and preventing STDs among migrant populations in Hongkong and beyond.
