Abstract

This research discusses the dynamics and role of Islamic higher education (IHE) until the present era. This era is distinguished by the ongoing development of science and technology, among other factors. IHE have undergone significant institutional and other developments, playing a pivotal role during the Old Order (ORLA), New Order (ORBA), and Reformation eras. Since its inception, IHE has been an integral component of the national education system, its significance further reinforced by two pivotal legislative acts: Law No. 2 of 1989 and Law No. 20 of 2003. Consequently, PTAI is obligated to contribute to the development of the nation while concurrently assuming responsibility for addressing its challenges across various domains. The nation is currently in a period of significant disruption, marked by economic challenges and a growing reliance on debt, which has now reached over 8000 trillion. This situation is further compounded by the presence of tens of millions of poor individuals and other pressing issues. In this context, PTAI is tasked with cultivating a generation of students who are not only well-versed in a broad array of disciplines, but also possess the qualities of entrepreneurship, competence, and moral integrity. This objective is to be achieved through the integration of moral and ethical principles into the educational curriculum, imparted by educators. Upon their graduation, these students will become valuable contributors to the nation's development.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of Islamic education on the character formation of adolescents in the context of the challenges posed by globalization. The rapid advancement of technology and the increasing exposure to global values have raised concerns about the erosion of traditional values, particularly in the younger generation. This research aims to investigate how Islamic educational institutions contribute to strengthening the moral and ethical values of adolescents in the face of these challenges. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through surveys and interviews with adolescent students in Islamic schools, focusing on their perceptions of character development, the role of religious teachings, and their ability to navigate modern societal influences. The findings suggest that Islamic education plays a crucial role in shaping the character of adolescents, especially in fostering a strong sense of responsibility, respect for others, and resilience against negative external influences. The study highlights the importance of integrating Islamic values into education as a countermeasure to the negative effects of globalization. This research contributes to the understanding of how religious education can serve as a foundation for developing moral character, offering practical insights for educators, policymakers, and parents aiming to guide adolescents through the complexities of contemporary society.

Abstract

Background: The era of the "death of expertise," characterized by an overwhelming flow of unverified digital information, poses a threat to the critical reasoning ability (bashirah) of students, particularly among females. Purpose: This study aims to design, implement, and evaluate an integrated Islamic Aesthetic Education model as a pedagogical strategy to enhance aesthetic sensitivity (dzauq) and critical thinking among female students in a modern Islamic boarding school. The model synthesizes Dewey's theory of experience with the concept of ihsan, emphasizing experiential and reflective learning. Method: Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) design, the study actively involves students in each learning cycle. Findings reveal that the model significantly improves students’ aesthetic sensitivity and critical reasoning, thereby strengthening their character. Result: This highlights the role of aesthetic education as an antidote to superficial information, equipping students to engage with content more thoughtfully and critically. Additionally, the model fosters the development of moral awareness, empathy, and social responsibility. These results underscore the importance of an education approach that not only focuses on information mastery but also on character-building and critical thinking, grounded in ihsan and meaningful experiences. Conclusion: Consequently, this model offers valuable insights for broader implementation in Islamic educational institutions, addressing similar challenges in today’s digital age.

Abstract

The study of Islamic epistemology is increasingly significant in the context of the dominance of modern scientific paradigms that tend to be reductionist and emphasize empiricism and rationalism as the sole legitimate sources of knowledge. Such an orientation has led to the separation of science from moral and spiritual values. This article aims to analyze comprehensively the four sources of knowledge in Islamic epistemology sense perception, reason, khabar ṣādiq (true testimony), and inspiration (ilham)and to explain their integrative structure within an Islamic epistemological framework. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research methods by examining and critically analyzing relevant classical and contemporary literature, including scholarly books and peer-reviewed journal articles. The research stages consist of source collection, conceptual classification, comparative analysis, and epistemological synthesis. The findings reveal that Islamic epistemology does not absolutize a single source of knowledge; rather, it positions the four sources within a layered epistemic structure according to their respective objects of inquiry, namely physical, rational, metaphysical, and inner-spiritual realities. The main conclusion of this study affirms that integrative Islamic epistemology offers a holistic and balanced paradigm of knowledge that harmonizes empirical data, rational analysis, revelatory authority, and spiritual experience. This paradigm has significant implications for the development of Islamic education and scientific inquiry that aim not only at intellectual advancement but also at moral and spiritual formation.

Abstract

This study seeks to understand how the integration of Islamic studies is negotiated in health sciences education by examining the interaction between curricular intentions and teaching practices in everyday learning contexts. The study adopts a qualitative case study design. Data were generated through semi structured interviews with lecturers and academic managers, supported by analysis of curriculum documents and direct observation of classroom activities. The collected data were examined through thematic interpretation to capture how integrative decisions are formed and enacted. The findings show that while Islamic perspectives are formally acknowledged within curriculum frameworks, their realization in classroom instruction varies considerably. Lecturers interpret integrative goals in diverse ways, balancing religious values with professional competencies, disciplinary standards, and practical teaching constraints. As a result, integration emerges through selective emphasis, adaptation, and compromise rather than uniform application. The study concludes that integrating Islamic studies into health sciences education is best understood as a negotiated and evolving process. Sustainable integration requires institutional strategies that recognize pedagogical diversity and support lecturers in aligning religious perspectives with professional learning objectives.
