Abstract

Number recognition is a crucial component of early childhood cognitive development and is a key focus in the Independent Curriculum. Traditional teaching methods often struggle to fully engage young learners, highlighting the need for innovative, developmentally appropriate learning media. This study aimed to develop a Congklak-based learning module to enhance early childhood number recognition within the framework of the Independent Curriculum. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, which includes stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation, this study involved 4 teachers and 30 children from Group B at TK Mansurin, Tarakan City. Data were collected through expert validation, teacher practicality questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test assessments of number recognition. Expert validation of the module indicated high validity with an average score of 92.43%, and teacher assessments revealed the module was highly practical with a score of 89%. The effectiveness of the module was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test, which demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in number recognition (p < 0.05). The average N-Gain of 0.68 confirmed the moduleÔÇÖs moderate effectiveness. The study concludes that the Congklak-based module is a valid, practical, and effective tool for enhancing early childhood number recognition within the Independent Curriculum, suggesting that traditional games can play a valuable role in modern educational settings.┬á┬áNumber recognition is a crucial component of early childhood cognitive development and is a key focus in the Independent Curriculum. Abstract

Digital technology has increasingly become integrated into early childhood education, offering new opportunities to support learning and development. This study aimed to develop digital learning materials focused on the value of mutual cooperation as part of the Pancasila Student Profile Project (P5) in kindergarten. The research employed the ADDIE development model, consisting of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The study involved 30 children aged 4-5 years and four teachers who facilitated the use of the digital materials. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The validity test yielded a score of 2.87, classified as valid. Practicality analysis based on teacher response questionnaires reached 98.75%, indicating a strongly agree category. Effectiveness was assessed through childrens final performance, showing that the digital materials effectively instilled mutual cooperation values and increased children's engagement in digital-based learning. These findings suggest that the developed digital learning materials are a feasible and impactful resource for promoting character values and active participation in early childhood education.

Abstract

Recognizing letters and numbers is essential in early childhood as a foundation for literacy and numeracy. This study aimed to improve these skills through memory game media. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the Thiagarajan 4D model (define, design, develop, disseminate), the research involved 3 teachers and 15 students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Results showed an increase in recognition skills from 61% (pre-test) to 71% (post-test). Teacher responses rated the media at 94.06% effectiveness. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test confirmed significant improvement (66 positive ranks; p < 0.05). Memory game media proved effective for enhancing letter and number recognition in early childhood. The study offers practical insights for integrating interactive media into early education and encourages further research for broader application.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of project-based play activities using wood puzzles on the social interaction skills of children with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at Zivana Montessori Inclusive Kindergarten in Makassar City. A quantitative approach with a single-subject experimental design (A–B–A pattern) was employed, involving a 5-year-7-month-old child who exhibited difficulties in focus, self-control, and social interaction. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and interviews, then analyzed visually and descriptively. The results revealed a significant improvement in the child’s social interaction skills following the implementation of project-based play using wood puzzles. Increases were observed in three key indicators: maintaining eye contact, engaging in cooperative play with peers, and following play rules. The average level of social interaction improved by 39% from the baseline condition, with a stable trend maintained into the post-intervention phase. The project-based play activity effectively helped the child enhance attention, cooperation, and impulse control through concrete and enjoyable learning experiences. These findings confirm that project-based play using wood puzzles is an effective strategy in inclusive early childhood education, as it fosters children’s social skills while creating a collaborative, adaptive, and meaningful learning environment.

Abstract

Recognizing number symbols in early childhood is challenging because their abstract nature does not align with the child's concrete thinking stage. Conventional methods, such as flashcards, have proven less effective because they rely solely on memorization. This study aims to test the influence of Media Puzzle Mix and Match Multiple Number Representation on children's ability to recognize number symbols in the 5-6-year age range. This research method uses a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design involving 16 children at Al-Ikhsan Kindergarten. The experimental group consisted of 8 children using a puzzle media with six number representations, while the control group consisted of 8 children using conventional flashcards. Results: Data analysis showed a significant increase (p < 0.05) in the experimental group, with an average increase of 22.25% compared with the control group, which was only 5.75%. The conclusion of the Media Puzzle Mix-and-Match Multiple Number Representation is efficacious in improving the ability to recognize number symbols through a multisensory approach aligned with constructivist and dual-coding theories.

Abstract

Children’s symbolic thinking ability, particularly at the age of 5–6 years, is often hindered by difficulties in recognizing number and letter symbols, which is partly caused by the limited use of media in the learning process. In fact, the use of media in learning plays a crucial role in enhancing children’s abilities. One of the instructional tools that can be employed is the lapbook, which serves as a learning medium to stimulate children’s symbolic thinking skills. This study aims to determine the Effect of Using Lapbook Media on the Symbolic Thinking Skills of Children Aged 5-6 Years at Al-Furqan Minasaupa Islamic Kindergarten. The research approach used is a quantitative approach with a Pre-Experimental research type in the form of One Group Pretest-Posttest. The population in this study were class B students aged 5-6 years at Al-Furqan Minasaupa Islamic Kindergarten. The population in this study were all class B students with a total of 47 children. The sample in this study was 16 children in class B2. The sample selection was carried out using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, testing, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistical analysis and non-parametric analysis, namely the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test using the SPSS 25 application. The results of the data analysis of class B2 students before being given treatment using lapbook media were 14.50 and after being given treatment using lapbook media, an increase of 22.81 was obtained. The test results show that sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 ˂ 0.05 then H1 is accepted, H0 is rejected. So it can be concluded that the use of lapbook media has an effect on the symbolic thinking ability of children aged 5-6 years at Al-Furqan Minasaupa Islamic Kindergarten.
