Abstract

The leaves of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) contains flavonoid, tannin and saponin which plays a role in wound healing. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of bitter melon leaves (M. charantia L.) ethanolic extract on wound healing the back injury on male mice. The parameters of this study were the length of wound closure and histopathological observations by looking at the level of epithelialization, the number of new blood vessels, and the number of inflammatory cells.This study was conducted in a complete randomized design. The mice were divided into five groups: [K (+)], [K (-)], [ P1], [P2], [P3], each group consist four mice. All of mice was wounded by cut on the back skin about 1,5 cm in length. The wound were treated every two times a day for 9 days, K(+) is given povidone iodine as a positive control, K(-) is given 95% ethanol as a negative control, P1 is given 50% ethanolic extract of bitter melon, P2 is given 75% ethanolic extract of bitter melon and P3 is given 100% ethanolic extract of bitter melon. On the 10th day, one of the mice from all of groups was taken to observe the histopathology of their skin. The results showed that the leaf extract of bitter melon has wound healing potential by accelerate the healing process of back skin’s wound in mice and has best histopathology picture compared to controls. Abstract

Hair is one of the important parts of the human body that has many functions, one of the mainproblems of hair that many people experience is hair loss. To find a solution for the problem of hair loss, a very much natural ingredients can be used to stimulate hair growth. One of the natural ingredients that can be used to stimulate hair growth is papaya seeds. This study discusses the effects of extracts of papaya seed (Carica papaya L.) with a concentration of the most effective hair growth rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus (Linnaeus, 1758)). Variations of treatment used is the negative controls (K-) spread with distilled water, the positive control(K+) spread with minoxidil 2%, treatment 1 (P1) smeared gel extract of papaya seeds 5% concentration, treatment 2 (P2) smeared gel extract of papaya seeds concentration 10%, treatment 3 (P3) gel smeared papaya seed extract 15%, and treatment 4 (P4) gel smeared papaya seed extract concentration of 20%. Based on the results of further analysis of variance and LSD test at 5% significance level indicates that the gel seed extract of papaya (Carica papaya L.) to give effect to accelerate the growth of hair length but was not significantly different from the hair mass. The best treatment is at a concentration of 15% (P3).

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases are quite high in Indonesia. One of the causes of high dengue cases is the high vector population, namely the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Mosquito control Ae. aegypti one of them uses larvicides to break the chain of reproduction. The use of chemical-based larvicides can be bad because it can pollute the environment and cause resistance. As an alternative, you can use natural larvicides made from plants. One of the plants that have the potential as larvicides are pepper (Piper nigrum L.) because it contains compounds that can be toxic to insects such as saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and essential oils. In addition, pepper plants are widely cultivated in Lampung and are easy to obtain. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of pepper leaf (P. nigrum L.) as larvicide for Ae. aegypti. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD). There was 1 control and 5 treatments in the form of pepper leaf extract with concentrations of 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, and 1%. The test material used was Ae. aegypti instar III. Each treatment used 25 larvae with 4 repetitions. Observations were made after 24 hours of treatment. The data obtained in the form of the number of larval deaths were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Post hoc LSD test. The results of this study showed a significant difference (p = 0.000), and it was found that a concentration of 1% was the most effective concentration as a larvicide for Ae. aegypti with a larval mortality percentage of 92%.

Abstract

Diare merupakan suatu gejala klinis dan gangguan saluran pencernaan yang ditandai dengan bertambahnya frekuensi defekasi, disertai dengan perubahan konsistensi feses menjadi lebih cair/lembek. Rumput teki merupakan herbal menahun yang tumbuh liar dan kurang mendapat perhatian, padahal bagian tanaman ini terutama umbinya dapat digunakan sebagai obat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan pengaruh ekstrak rimpang rumput teki dengan obat attapulgite terhadap antidiare pada mencit (Mus musculus L.) jantan yang diinduksi Olium ricini. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Zoologi Jurusan Biologi FMIPA Universitas Lampung pada bulan April-Mei 2016. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan 5 perlakuan : (K) kontrol diberi 0,4 ml /40 gr BB aquabides (K1) dosis obat attapulgite dengan dosis 0,4 mg /40gr BB, (K2) dosis ekstrak rumput teki 4,5 mg/ 40 gr BB, (K3) dosis ekstrak rumput teki 45 mg/40 gr BB, (K4) dosis ekstrak rumput teki 135 mg/40 gr BB, dengan pengulangan sebanyak 5 kali dan pemberian Oleum ricini dengan dosis 150 mg/kgBB untuk setiap perlakuan. Parameter yang diamati dalam penelitian ini meliputi : waktu terjadinya diare, frekuensi diare, konsistensi feses pada mencit (Mus musculus L.) jantan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak rimpang rumput teki dosis 135mg/40gram BB dan obat attapulgit dosis 0,4 mg/40gr BB dapat memperpanjang waktu terjadinya diare, dapat menurunkan frekuensi diare, dan dapat memperbaiki konsistensi feses mencit secara segnifikan apabila dibandingkan dengan kontrol. Hal ini disebabkan karena didalam ekstrak rimpang rumput teki mengandung senyawa flavonoid dan alkaloid sebagai antidiare.

Abstract

Lampu merkuri menjadi salah satu pilihan karena memiliki umur nyala yang panjang, hingga 24.000 jam. Radiasi yang dipancarkan lampu ini bukan hanya dalam bentuk fisik tampak, tetapi juga berupa gelombang elektromagnetik dan akan berinterakasi dengan semua materi yang memiliki potensial listrik. Untuk melihat pengaruh radiasi cahaya lampu merkuri terhadap struktur tubulus ginjal mencit (Mus musculus L.) jantan maka telah dilaksanakan penelitian di laboratorium Zoologi Jurusan Biologi FMIPA Universitas Lampung. Pembuatan preparat histologi ginjal dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Patologi Balai Penyidikan dan Pengujian Veteriner (BPPV) Regional III Bandar Lampung. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dari bulan Oktober sampai November 2012. Kerusakan tubulus ginjal yang ditemukan dalam pemajanan 12 dan 16 jam/hari selama 21 hari berupa perdarahan intertubular, piknosis, karioreksis, kariolisis, kongesti, dan nekrosis. Perdarahan intertubulus hanya ditemukan pada perlakuan 4 jam/hari, sedangkan pada perlakuan 8 jam/hari ditemukan perdarahan intertubulus, piknosis, dan karioreksis.

Abstract

Radiasi gelombang elektromagnet yang dipancarkan oleh lampu merkuri dapat mem- pengaruhi proses pembelahan sel embrio mencit. Radiasi yang mengenai sel embrio tersebut akan menyebabkan pertumbuhan tidak normal dan mempengaruhi morfologi fetus mencit. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh radiasi lampu merkuri terhadap berat dan panjang fetus mencit (Mus musculus L.). Penelitian ini menggunakan pemajanan lampu merkuri selama 18 hari sebagai bentuk perlakuan terhadap mencit bunting. Hasil analisis ragam berat badan fetus dan panjang fetus menunjukkan perbedaan nyata terhadap kontrol, dan uji lanjut BNT 5% pada berat badan menunjukkan hasil bahwa semua perlakuan memiliki pengaruh yang berbeda, kecuali pada perlakuan pemajanan 12 jam/hari dan 16 jam/hari menunjukkan pengaruh yang tidak berbeda. Panjang fetus kontrol menunjukkan perbedaan dengan semua perlakuan, tetapi pemajanan 4 jam/hari tidak berbeda dengan pemajanan 8 jam/hari, begitu juga antara pemajanan 12 dan 16 jam/hari tidak menunjukkan pengaruh yang berbeda.

Abstract

Kebisingan adalah salah satu faktor stres bagi manusia. Stress karena bising dapat mempengaruhi sistem endokrin sehingga membahayakan kesehatan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mem-buktikan bahwa kebisingan dapat mempengaruhi kadar glukosa darah mencit (Mus musculus L.) jantan. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei - Juni 2013 di Laboratorium Zoologi Jurusan Biologi FMIPA Universitas Lampung menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 1 kelompok kontrol dan 4 kelompok diberi perlakuan kebisingan dengan intensitas kebisingan 85-90 dBA dengan waktu pemaparan 6, 8, 10 dan 12 jam/hari selama 21 hari. Tiap kelompok percobaan terdiri atas 5 individu mencit. Parameter yang diamati dalam penelitian ini adalah kadar glukosa darah mencit. Hasil pengamatan di analisis menggunakan analisis statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kebisingan dengan intensitas 85-90 dBA meningkatkan kadar glukosa darah mencit (Mus musculus L.) jantan. Rerata kadar glukosa darah mencit jantan yang diberi perlakuan kebisingan lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan kontrol dan kadar glukosa darah tertinggi pada pemaparan 12 jam/hari adalah 194 mg/dL.

Abstract

Tanaman Suruhan (Peperomia pellucida (L.,) Kunth.) merupakan tanaman obat yang memiliki senyawa metabolit sekunder seperti alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin, dan steroid. Berbagai senyawa kimia tersebut yang berpotensi sebagai obat tetapi perlu diperhatikan kemungkinan adanya efek samping terhadap organisme khususnya pada masa kehamilan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji efek teratogenik ekstrak tanaman suruhan terhadap fetus mencit (Mus musculus L.), meliputi mortalitas dan resorpsi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 4 perlakuan dengan 20 ekor mencit betina dibagi ke dalam 4 kelompok yaitu: K(+) (Aquabides), P1 diberi ekstrak tanaman suruhan dengan dosis (1,68 mg/g bb), P2 (3,36 mg/g bb), dan P3 (6,72 mg/g bb). Hasil penelitian terhadap persentase fetus yang mengalami mortalitas dan resorpsi fetus antara kontrol K(+) dan perlakuan dengan ekstrak etanol suruhan (P1, P2, dan P3) tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang bermakna secara statistik berdasarkan uji ANOVA satu faktor (p value 0,418). Hasil penelitian yang didapat menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol tanaman suruhan tidak menyebabkan mortalitas pada fetus mencit, namun menyebabkan resorpsi pada fetus mencit pada pemberian dosis sebesar 1,62 mg/g BB, 3,36 mg/g BB, dan 6,72 mg/g BB. Pepper elder (Peperomia pellucida (L.,) Kunth.) is a medicinal plant that has secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids. The side effects for organisms of those chemical compounds, which are potentially beneficial for their medicinal use, still need to be considered especially in pregnancy. This study aims to determine the teratogenic effects of pepper elder extract on mortality and resorption of mice (Mus musculus L.) fetus. This study uses total random sampling design with 4 treatments consisting of 20 female mice divided into 4 groups: the control group (K(+)) which is given Aqua distillation and the treatment groups which are all given the pepper elder extract with different doses, where the first treatment group (P1) is given 1.68 mg/g body weight of the extract, the second treatment group (P2) is given 3.36 mg/g body weight of the extract, and the third treatment group (P3) is given 6.72 mg/g body weight of the extract. The results obtained of mortality and resorption percentage of mice fetus between the control group (K(+)) and the treatment groups (P1, P2, and P3) showed that there is no statistically meaningful difference based on one-way ANOVA test (p value 0,418). This study showed that ethanol extract of pepper elder causes no mortality in mice fetus, yet it causes resorption on mice fetus at given doses of 1,62 mg/g body weight, 3,36 mg/g body weight, dan 6,72 mg/g body weight.

Abstract

The Condong Terestrial Island is one of the island belong to tourist area, Pasir Putih, in Rangai village. This island has a natural vegetation and become conservation area for all living things.One of them is the long tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis), or the crab-eathing macaques. The objective of this research is to know about the number and the population density of long tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis) at Condong Terestrial Island. The research has been done from January 16th to February 5th 2012. This research was using concentrated method. Data was collected by visiting the existence of long tailed macaques. Population of longtailed macaques was calkulated by noting the time and the number of individuals admitted at any point of observation, the number of crab-eating macaques in and out at any poin wast recorded on tally sheets to avoid repetition of the calculation. The observation was conducted during the daytime started from 6am to 6pm. The result of this research shown that the total number of this long tailed macaques is about 140 individu with population density is about 28 ekor per hectare.
