Abstract

Development in the land of Papua, particularly in terms of housing provision, often still places Indigenous Papuans (OAP) in a marginalized position. In Sorong City, many OAP live in slum settlements, one of which is located in Klawalu sub-district. The slum settlements are not fully equipped with basic infrastructure. However, they continue to live and survive in these conditions. The purpose of this study is to explore how OAP survive in the slum settlements of Klawalu sub-district despite in adequate infrastructure. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach, with phenomenology analytical method. The results show that there are several strategies by OAP to survive, including self-help efforts in providing infrastructure particularly in creating access to houses located in swamp area, adapting to the environment, seeking alternatives and strategies to meet needs such as lighting, electricity networks, clean water, and sanitation, the advantages of their stilt house structure, local wisdom, sharing energy resources, and receiving assistance from the government. Local wisdom that needs to be maintained is a very strong attitude of closeness and kinship, an attitude of solidarity of local leaders, an active and open mind towards the planning programs that the government wants to carry out. To improve the quality of life of OAP, it is necessary to develop and improve basic infrastructure.

Abstract

Optimal environmental conditions and domestic waste accumulation at MI Pakumbulan, Pekalongan, have hindered a conducive learning atmosphere. Additionally, insufficient water infiltration areas cause puddles during the rainy season, requiring integrated intervention. This community service activity aimed to optimize a healthy learning environment through waste management education, reforestation, and biopore infiltration holes. The program was implemented in three stages: socialization of 3R (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) principles, practical planting of ornamental and productive flora, and technical training for installing biopores in flood-prone areas. Results indicated a significant increase in ecological awareness, established through an independent waste sorting system and expanded green spaces. The installation of 10 biopore points effectively improved groundwater absorption and provided organic composting sites. Both students and teachers demonstrated enhanced skills in plant care and productive waste management. This program successfully transformed the madrasah into a greener, healthier, and more educational environment. It is recommended that the school forms a "Green Guard" student team to ensure sustainability and integrates environmental values into the curriculum.

The variables in this study consisted of the SEL approach as the independent variable (X) and student’ disciplined and polite character as the dependent variable (Y). Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Pearson Product-Moment correlation test. The results showed that the implementation of the SEL approach at SDN 8 Telaga Biru was categorized as good, with a percentage of 72.00%. The disciplined and polite character of students was also categorized as good, with a percentage of 80.00%. The correlation test result obtained a coefficient value of r = 0.40, indicating a moderate positive relationship between the SEL approach and students’ character development. The learning environment plays a critical supporting role in this relationship, as a safe, inclusive, and emotionally supportive classroom setting amplifies the effectiveness of SEL implementation. Therefore, it can be concluded that the SEL approach positively correlates with the formation of disciplined and polite character in elementary school students. A well-structured and conducive learning environment is essential to optimize the outcomes of SEL-based character education.

Abstract

Halal certification is an essential form of product legality that plays a significant role in enhancing consumer trust and improving the competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). However, many MSME owners still encounter difficulties in understanding the halal certification procedure, preparing the required documents, and operating the SIHALAL system. This community service program aimed to assist the halal certification application process for a traditional cake MSME in Setail Village, Banyuwangi Regency, as an effort to strengthen product legality and increase consumer confidence. The program employed the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which actively involved the partner throughout all stages of the activities, including problem identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The assistance activities consisted of field observations, interviews, document verification, guidance in creating and completing a SIHALAL account, and monitoring the certification application process. The results showed that the MSME owner demonstrated improved understanding of the halal certification procedures, successfully completed the required administrative documents, and became more proficient in using the SIHALAL system. Furthermore, the participatory approach encouraged active involvement of the partner, making the assistance process more effective. This community service activity contributed to improving the MSME's readiness to fulfill product legality requirements, strengthening consumer trust, and enhancing business competitiveness.
