Abstract

With that background, this research underscores the importance of a circular economy approach in addressing waste issues, in line with Law No. 5 of 2008 on waste management. This approach has the potential to create positive impacts on the economy, environment, and society, such as an increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a reduction in waste volume, and the creation of jobs. This research aims to explore the urgency and potential of the circular economy approach in waste management in Banten Province, as well as to identify effective methods for implementing the 5R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recovery, and Repair) as an effort to close the waste cycle. Through an analysis of data from the Population Administration (Adminduk) and the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN), as well as reports from The Indonesia Olefin, Aromatic & Plastic Industry Association (INAPLAS) and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), this research notes an increase in waste volume in Indonesia, particularly plastic waste that pollutes the environment, including the sea. The proposed method to achieve this goal is the establishment of a waste bank as part of social engineering to raise public awareness about waste sorting and to utilize the economic value of waste. The waste bank is expected to serve as a collection and education point for the community in practicing the 5R concept. Additionally, the application of the 5R principles from the source of waste is also considered crucial in addressing the waste problem comprehensively and integratively. The aim of this research is to understand, identify, and analyze how the concept of "closing the loop" is applied in the circular economy model to minimize waste accumulation directly. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the understanding and implementation of the circular economy approach in waste management in Banten Province, as well as offer new perspectives in addressing the challenges faced in implementing the 5R concept.

Abstract

Integrated learning citizen science has become a major focus in the global education context. This study compares integrated learning approaches to citizen science between the world scope and its implementation in Indonesia. Citizen Science become innovative learning that combines community participation in scientific activities and provides opportunities for students to be actively involved in the process of scientific discovery during the learning process. This study compares learning citizen science, which is widely implemented in several countries in the world, with its implementation in Indonesia. This research is included in a systematic literature review (SLR) with PRISMA analysis. This study collects related articles on citizen science, which consists of 49 articles indexed by Scopus and SINTA, both international (35 articles) and national (14 articles), from various countries. The research results show that although the concept of citizen science has received global attention, its implementation in Indonesia still faces several unique challenges, including aspects of infrastructure, community participation, government support, and lack of guidance. However, there is great potential to develop this approach in a local context by taking into account the natural wealth and diversity of natural resources in Indonesia. This research provides a deeper understanding of the comparison between integrated learning citizen science on a global scale within Indonesia. These findings imply that the importance of adjusting strategies in order to approach citizen science can be integrated effectively into the educational context in Indonesia. This allows active community participation in sustainable scientific development with findings obtained through the integration of learning in schools.

Abstract

The article aims to provide an overview of designing a citizen science project in ecological learning, focusing on the case of gold mining pollution in the Batanghari River area. This research employed a qualitative method, non-interactive type with the approach used being concept analytical. The design of the citizen science project is conducted through a sequential cycle with its main components including: identifying the need or problem, determining if citizen science is the right approach, designing the project, building the community, managing the data, and evaluating the project. This project design illustrates an organized method of citizen science in ecological learning that is customized to the gold mining area. The contribution of participants is very important to emphasise at every activity in the project design, therefore the development of activities in this project refers to the logic model. The type of project relevant to the issue raised is to assess the potential or ecological status of the Batanghari River through the measurement of biological quality elements, physico-chemical elements, and hydromorphological quality elements, referring to the European Environment Agency standards. The design incorporates two distinct components: a collaborative project model and a framework based on research, both of which are arranged into mini-project activities. As a result, the project will contribute to improving students' skills in monitoring and collaborating with communities, as well as accommodating ecological learning activities intended as actions to help mitigate the problem of pollution due to gold mining in the Batanghari River.
