Abstract

Muscovy duck is a poultry commodity that has the potential to breed. In Indonesia, various types of Muscovy duck are local and imported. These types of wild ducks have different morphological characteristics. This type has more or less influenced the potential development of muscovy livestock. Entok or in Indonesia, known as Muscovy ducks, are domesticated livestock. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of fermented water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) supplementation on the growth performance and body morphometric traits of Muscovy ducks (Cairina moschata). The research used 90 ducks aged four weeks, arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications. The treatments consisted of P0 (100% commercial feed), P1 (80% commercial feed + 20% fermented water hyacinth), P2 (70% commercial feed + 30% fermented water hyacinth), and P3 (60% commercial feed + 40% fermented water hyacinth). The fermentation process involved adding 2 mL EM4 and 5% bran per kilogram of wilted water hyacinth, fermented anaerobically for 14 days. Growth data were collected weekly for eight weeks and analyzed using ANOVA at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the addition of 30% fermented water hyacinth (P2) produced the highest final body weight (2,650 ± 58 g), average weekly gain (225.0 ± 4.8 g/week), body length (43.7 ± 1.2 cm), and chest circumference (35.5 ± 0.8 cm). Higher inclusion levels (≥40%) resulted in reduced growth performance, likely due to excessive fiber content that limited nutrient digestibility. It is concluded that fermented water hyacinth can replace up to 30% of commercial feed without negatively affecting growth, making it a sustainable, low-cost, and environmentally friendly feed alternative for Muscovy duck production.

Abstract

Abstract

The objective of this study is to develop and evaluate strategies for the utilisation of nano technology-based ablution water waste in integrated farming systems comprising catfish, tilapia, gourami, iridescent shark, and water spinach. Utilising an interdisciplinary approach, this study not only examines the effectiveness of water treatment technology, but also seeks to empower pesantren human resources to achieve technical and economic independence. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of nanotechnology-based water treatment technology, the utilisation of the results for productive cultivation, and the empowerment of human resources in the Islamic boarding school community. This research was conducted at the As-Salafiyyah Asy-Syafi'iyyah Tambakberas Barat Islamic Boarding School, Jombang, East Java, from August to October 2025. The findings of the study demonstrate that the integration of electrocoagulation, zeolite-based nanofiltration, and ozonation technologies is efficacious in enhancing the quality of ablution wastewater. This assertion is substantiated by a substantial decline in pollutant parameters, specifically: The BOD decreased from 78 mg/L to 24 mg/L, with an efficiency of 69.2%, the COD decreased from 39 mg/L to 17 mg/L, with an efficiency of 56.4%, and the TSS decreased from 76 mg/L to 25 mg/L, with an efficiency of 67.1%. The utilisation of treated water as a cultivation medium yielded favourable outcomes, manifesting in the accelerated growth of water spinach plants. A notable augmentation in plant length was observed, escalating from 10.2 centimetres at seven days post-planting to 39.8 centimetres at 28 days after planting. Concurrently, the number of leaves increased from 9 at 7 days after planting to 38 leaves at 28 days after planting. Furthermore, the fresh weight of the plants exhibited a substantial increase, rising from 3 grams at seven days after planting to 37 grams at 28 days after planting. Furthermore, treated water has been demonstrated to support the growth of various fish species, including patin, tilapia, gurami, and catfish. The fastest growth was exhibited by tilapia and catfish, reaching 27 g and 18 g at 28 days after planting, respectively, with a final length of 14.83 cm and 13.25 cm, respectively. Abstract

Water clover (Marsilea crenata) is one of the herbal plants that has been using in alternative medicine. It possesses pharmacologically active compounds like flavonoid, which has cellular activities such as antioxidant and estrogenic activity. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of water clover ethanol extract (WCE) at different concentrations on the growth of follicles and oocytes based on follicles and oocytes diameter, respectively, after six days of culture. This experimental study used 24 isolated antral follicles (2.5-3.2 mm), which were randomly divided into four groups including control (without supplemented WCE) and experimental groups that supplemented with different concentrations of WCE (21.6, 43.2, and 86.4 µg ml-1) in culture medium for six days culture. The diameter of follicles was measured on days 0, 3, and 6. Additionally, oocytes diameter was also measured on day 6. The results indicate that the mean diameter of antral follicles and oocyte diameter of WCE 43.2 µg ml-1 was significantly increase compared to the other groups (P≤0.05). According to our results, WCE exerts its effect on the growth of the antral follicle and oocyte based on follicles and oocytes diameter respectively in a dose-dependent manner after six days of the antral follicle cultured.  Keywords: antral follicle, flavonoid, in vitro, oocyte, water clover.
