Abstract

A crucial trait of a high economic value of goats is calving to more than one kid (prolificacy potency). The high prolificacy potency (> 1 kid) has a higher income compared to single kids. This study described the potential of Indonesian Local Etawah Goat (ILEG) for prolific trait and the morphometric of body and breeding values in various environments as a basis for selection. It involved smallholder farmers who breed ILEG does from 14 villages in East Java. The research was conducted on a field survey to obtain primary data about the phenotypic superior ILEG goats based on the status of the prolific trait. The study used 520 does with 1347 prolific records obtained. The results showed that the prolificacy values ranged from 2.12-1.42 heads/calving (medium to high category). The variation of prolificacy was 0.53, and the breeding values of the prolificacy trait were 1.48-1.74. The average of body morphometrics was varied with the following details. Chest circumference was 81.06 + 4.63 cm, body length was 76.64 + 4.33 cm, shoulder height was 75.34 + 5.83 cm and ear length were 27.44 + 3.02 cm. This study concluded that the prolific rate was medium to high category. The prolific variation was higher than body morphometry variation, and the prolificacy EBVs of breeding villages divided into four unique pattern boxplots. The prolific trait could be the basis for new considerations in the ILEG breeding program, either through selection or mating.

Abstract

The Boercang goat is a crossbred between male Boer goat and local female goat. This study was aimed to analyze the production and physical performances of Boercang goats during the weaning up to the age of one year. Thirty nine males and 37 females goats aged 3 - 12 months were used in the study. Body weight, daily weight gain, coat colour pattern, horn, ears, nose shape and birth type were recorded during study. The data obtained were calculated for the means, standard deviation (SD), and coefficient of variation (CV) and the analysis was descriptive. Student t test was performed to compare differences between groups of age and between group of sex. Field observations showed that the qualitative characteristics of Boercang such as body colour, horns, ears, and nose shape were 50 % identical with the characteristics of male Boer. The average body weight of the male Boercang goats was 23.02±1.56 kg whereas the female Boercang goats was 21.86±1.63 kg. Body weight gain was affected by age and birth type. The conclusion is that the genetic superiority of the qualitative characteristics of the Boer goats is still expressed in the offspring although it varies; for the characteristics of horns, colour patterns and ears still contribute more than 50%. The appearance of superior quantitative traits from the male Boer goat during the period of weaning up to one year of age both based on the birth type and offspring sex tends to be higher than the appearance of local goat.

Abstract

Agropolitan is one of the regional development concepts used to overcome urbanization caused by development inequality and regional equity. The development of the Pujon District Agropolitan Area is expected to reduce development inequality and poverty levels. This research aims to identify superior commodities, assess sustainability, and develop appropriate strategies for developing the Pujon District into a prosperous Agropolitan area. Quantitative data is used in the research method. Location Quotient (LQ), Multidimensional Scaling (MDS), and SWOT analysis were used to analyze the data. According to the LQ analysis findings, the Pujon District's primary commodities are garlic, potatoes, cauliflower, large chilies, and carrots. Data analysis using MDS on the ecological, economic, socio-cultural, infrastructure, and technology dimensions, as well as the legal and institutional dimensions, reveals that they are "fairly sustainable." According to the findings of the SWOT analysis, the primary key to the strategy for developing agropolitan areas is determining the competitiveness of only commodities so that the higher quality and competitiveness of commodities will encourage the formation of select commodity markets and the formation of dynamic trading activities (marked by high demand from various regions outside the Pujon). Keywords: agropolitan, multidimensional scalling, sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

This study investigated the morphometric characteristics of Mojosari and Alabio ducks, indigenous breeds recognized for their genetic value in Indonesian agriculture. A total of 456 ducks, comprising 254 Mojosari and 202 Alabio ducks, were assessed for body weight (BW), shank length (SL), breast circumference (BrC), and back length (BcL) at 10 weeks of age. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize morphometric traits, and the Mann?Whitney U test was applied to evaluate differences between sexes due to the nonnormal distribution of the data. Additionally, Spearman correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationships between body weight and morphometric traits, identifying reliable predictors across sexes and breeds. Significant breed- and sex-specific variations were observed, with male Alabio ducks showing superior body weights, whereas female Mojosari ducks presented distinctive shank proportions, reflecting potential adaptive differences. Correlation analysis highlighted back length and breast circumference as strong predictors of body weight, with a greater association observed in female Alabio ducks. These findings provide a foundational understanding of morphometric diversity in Indonesian ducks, supporting their conservation and potential for targeted breeding programs to increase productivity, resilience, and adaptability.

Abstract

Graphical Abstract   Highlight Research 1. The study successfully identified the utilization of coastal and marine areas within the research site. 2. Oceanographic parameters across the study area have been analyzed, providing insights into variations in environmental conditions favoring seagrass ecosystem resilience. 3. The structure of seagrass vegetation has been thoroughly observed, revealing differences in species composition, density, and coverage. 4. Furthermore, the study establishes the connectivity between coastal and marine spatial utilization, oceanographic factors, and seagrass ecosystem dynamics, highlighting their interdependent relationships.     Abstract This study aims to assess the ecological status of seagrass meadows and their relationship with dugong (Dugong dugon) habitats across four distinct ecological regions in East Java, Indonesia. Field assessments were conducted to evaluate seagrass community structure, oceanographic parameters, and the intensity of human activities. Seagrass distribution was mapped using Sentinel-2A satellite imagery, while seagrass health was evaluated through the Seagrass Ecological Quality Index (SEQI) and Importance Value Index (IVI). Statistical analyses, including Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA), were employed to identify significant differences and key environmental drivers. The results revealed marked spatial variation in oceanographic characteristics and seagrass coverage (p < 0.05). PCA showed that anthropogenic factors—particularly marine space utilization such as aquaculture and coastal development—were major contributors to seagrass degradation. Elevated nutrient concentrations were also associated with declining seagrass health, indicating land-based pollution as a dominant stressor. These findings underline the urgent need for integrated coastal zone management. Strengthening conservation policies, reducing terrestrial runoff, and implementing sustainable marine spatial planning are critical to safeguard seagrass ecosystems and ensure the long-term survival of dugong populations in Indonesian waters.
