Abstract

Traffic accidents are emergency events that often occur unexpectedly in society and can cause injury or death. Proper first aid for traffic accident victims is needed to help reduce mortality rates, further complications and improve healing in victims. Proper first aid in emergency conditions such as trauma accident victims needs to be based on good knowledge. This community service activity aims to improve students' knowledge in first aid for traffic accidents. This community service activity was carried out on 35 grade XII students at a high school in Perdagangan, Simalungun Regency. The results of this community service showed an increase in students' knowledge about first aid for accidents after being given health education. Health education about emergency handling is highly recommended to be given to the community as laypersons.

Abstract

Students metacognitive skills, including planning, monitoring, and evaluating the learning process, are essential in science (IPA) learning at the elementary level. However, these skills often receive insufficient attention due to the dominance of cognitively oriented instructional approaches. This study aims to analyze the metacognitive skills of fifth-grade students in science learning at three public elementary schools in Surabaya. A descriptive quantitative method was employed, supported by qualitative data from teacher interviews. The results indicate that students' skills in planning and evaluation are relatively well-developed, while difficulties persist in the monitoring aspect, particularly in maintaining reflective consistency and recalling prior material. Although teachers have implemented reflective and contextual approaches, passive learning habits remain a significant challenge. Based on these findings, it is recommended that science instruction place greater emphasis on explicit and structured strategies to foster students' thinking awareness in a sustainable manner, aligned with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the cognitive abilities and responses of elementary school students to contextually-based higher order thinking skills (HOTS) on plant morphology materials. The research approach used was a mixed exploratory method, with one student in grade IV elementary school in Surabaya for qualitative data (think aloud) and 25 students in Lamongan for quantitative data (written test). The instruments used were contextual-based HOTS questions developed through expert validation and limited trials. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, documentation, and tests. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically, while quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and reliability (α = 0.76). The results showed that students experienced increased cognitive engagement when faced with problems associated with the context of daily life, such as familiar plants. The students' responses showed that analytical thinking skills began to develop, although evaluative abilities were still limited. Students' thinking processes are more structured when they receive visual stimulus and verbal guidance through think aloud techniques. However, some students have difficulty understanding scientific terms, which shows the need for language adjustments in the preparation of questions. Research has also found that students with previous observational and discussion experiences tend to give more complex and reflective answers. These findings underscore the importance of developing HOTS questions that take into account local contexts, cognitive developmental stages, and student learning experiences. The research recommends the integration of contextual-based learning and HOTS assessment in the elementary school science curriculum. HOTS questions not only serve as an evaluation tool, but also as a means to train critical and reflective mindsets from an early age. Thus, this approach supports the strengthening of 21st century competencies at the basic education level.

Abstract

This study aims to develop digital comic media based on religious values to improve environmental literacy among sixth-grade students. This study uses a research and development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) instructional design model. Each ADDIE stage is adapted to ensure the resulting media are valid, practical, and pedagogically effective. A needs analysis revealed that existing learning media were contextually irrelevant and failed to integrate Islamic values. During the design phase, learning objectives were formulated based on the 2013 curriculum and integrated the values of Khalīfah, Ṭahārah, and Amanah into the digital comic narrative developed using Canva and Krita. Validation by subject matter, media, and language experts showed a very high level of validity (85–90%). Implementation at SDN Simogirang 1 involved 25 students using a single-group pretest-posttest design. Practicality test results showed positive responses from 89.3% of teachers and 85.2% of students. Effectiveness testing using N-Gain and paired-sample t-tests revealed a significant increase in environmental literacy among students (N-Gain = 0.61, p < 0.05). This religion-based digital comic medium has proven to be highly valid, practical, and effective in enhancing environmental literacy in Islamic religious education at the primary school level.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah sejauh mana kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam konteks pembelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (IPA). Studi ini dilangsungkan pada semester genap tahun ajaran 2024/2025 dengan melibatkan siswa kelas VI B di SDN Kertajaya I, Surabaya, Jawa Timur, sebagai subjek penelitian. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif deskriptif dengan instrumen utama berupa soal esai. Kemampuan berpikir kritis dievaluasi melalui lima indikator, meliputi: kemampuan mengemukakan penjelasan sederhana, keterampilan dasar, penalaran lanjutan, penarikan kesimpulan, serta kemampuan merumuskan prediksi dan integrasi. Berdasarkan hasil pengukuran, rata-rata nilai siswa adalah 42 dengan rincian: penjelasan sederhana (41), keterampilan dasar (36), kesimpulan (39), penjelasan lanjutan (38), dan strategi serta integrasi (66). Temuan ini mengisyaratkan bahwa kapasitas berpikir kritis siswa masih tergolong rendah. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan alternatif strategi pembelajaran yang lebih dinamis dan inovatif, seperti penggunaan media flipbook digital, untuk mendorong penguatan kemampuan berpikir kritis dalam pembelajaran IPA.Kata Kunci: Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis; Pembelajaran IPA; Flipbook DigitalProfile of Critical Thinking Ability in Science Learning in Elementary Schools in the Digital EraABSTRACTThis study aims to examine the level of students’ critical thinking skills within the context of Science (IPA) instruction. The research was conducted during the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, involving sixth-grade students from class VI B at SDN Kertajaya I, Surabaya, East Java. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, using essay-based test items as the main research instrument. Critical thinking abilities were assessed through five indicators: the ability to provide simple explanations, develop basic skills, offer advanced clarification, draw conclusions, and formulate predictions and integration. The test results revealed an average student score of 42 with the following breakdown: simple explanation (41), basic skills (36), conclusion (39), advanced clarification (38), and strategy and integration (66). These findings indicated that students’ critical thinking skills remain at a relatively low level. Therefore, a more dynamic and innovative instructional strategy such as the implementation of digital flipbook media is needed to foster improvement in students’ critical thinking abilities in Science learning.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the ability of students in the Primary School Teacher Education program to integrate Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) in developing mathematics questions based on Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) at the C6 level (creating). This competence is essential for preparing future teachers to design questions that foster creativity, problem-solving, and innovation among primary school students. Method: This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach involving final-semester students who had completed courses on instructional design and TPACK. Data were collected through documentation of C6-level HOTS question development assignments, semi-structured interviews, and classroom observations. Data were analyzed through data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Results: The findings indicate that most students demonstrated the ability to integrate TPACK components—content, pedagogy, and technology—in designing HOTS-based mathematics questions at the C6 level. While some questions reflected strong alignment with C6 indicators such as originality and contextual relevance, challenges remain in harmonizing all TPACK dimensions consistently. Variability in technological integration and depth of creativity was also observed. Novelty: This study offers insight into how TPACK competencies support the development of C6-level HOTS questions within primary mathematics education. It contributes to existing literature by linking TPACK directly with cognitive assessment design in teacher education and highlighting the preparedness of pre-service teachers to meet the demands of 21st-century learning.

Abstract

Bronchial asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that significantly impacts the quality of life of sufferers. The severity and level of asthma control are important factors in determining a patient's condition. Data from the Pulmonary Clinic of Dr. H. Moch. Ansari Saleh Regional General Hospital (RSUD) show an increase in the number of asthma patients every year, necessitating further analysis of the factors that influence the quality of life of sufferers. This study aims to analyze the relationship between severity and control levels and the quality of life of bronchial asthma patients. This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 47 respondents selected using a purposive sampling method according to the inclusion criteria. The instruments used included a severity questionnaire based on the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) guidelines, the Asthma Control Test (ACT), and the Mini Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (Mini-AQLQ). Data analysis was performed using the Kendall's Tau-b test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the majority of respondents were female (53.2%) and aged 31–45 years (36.2%). The highest asthma severity was mild persistent (29.8%), while the most dominant level of control was fully controlled (38.3%). The quality of life of the respondents was mostly in the moderate category (38.3%). Statistical tests showed a significant relationship between severity and quality of life (p = 0.003) and between control and quality of life (p = 0.001). It can be concluded that the higher the level of asthma severity, the lower the patient's quality of life tends to be, while better asthma control is associated with a better quality of life. These results emphasize the importance of early detection, optimal asthma control, and regular monitoring by healthcare professionals to improve patients' quality of life.

Abstract

Science learning in elementary schools ideally not only teaches scientific concepts, but also fosters students' awareness of environmental issues relevant to their lives. However, in reality, science learning tends to be theoretical and lacks linking concepts with the social and ecological context around students. For example, the food chain material is often taught simply as a sequence of relationships between living things without discussing the impact of human activities on the balance of the ecosystem. To address this gap, this research aims to explore environmental cases that match the characteristics of Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) on food chain material in grade V SD and develop a Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based food chain learning design integrated with the SSI approach systematically based on the environmental cases found. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of multiple case study. Data collection techniques were conducted through online news documentation from credible mass media relevant to ecosystem and food chain issues. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model which includes the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that five environmental cases were found, namely the decline in the frog population, python visits to settlements, locust attacks, caterpillar population explosion, and owl hunting. The five cases fulfill the characteristics of SSI and have high potential to be used as a context for elementary science learning. Based on these findings, a PBL-based learning design was developed that integrates SSI elements to shape conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, and environmental awareness in elementary school students.

Abstract

Objective: Education is one of the basic needs of humans. The current educational challenge is to produce individuals who can compete in the 21st century. We can access various information freely via the internet, and there is no guarantee that the news we see is true. To use this information properly, individuals must evaluate data and information sources. Method: The type of research used is qualitative research. The population in this study is all ESTE FoE Unesa students, and the sample used is the 2018-2020 class. The sample used was class 2019, D, and F, totaling 84 students. The data collection method used in this study is the test. The instrument used in this study was a critical thinking skills test. Data analysis was carried out in percentage terms. Results: The results showed that the critical thinking skills of Elementary School Teacher Education Faculty of Education Unesa students were in a low category. The results of this study are expected to be used by lecturers or researchers to design and develop learning activities that can facilitate students to practice critical thinking skills. Novelty: Lecturers can design the implementation of learning in the classroom that trains critical thinking skills to become more qualified, effective, and efficient.

Abstract

Toko online Halo Jaket Bandung merupakan toko online yang didirikan pada platform shopee di tahun 2019, yang mana aktivitas utamanya adalah penjualan produk jaket. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi literatur. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui manajemen bisnis dan strategi bisnis penjualan produk toko online Halo Jaket Bandung pada platform shopee. Adapun hasil penelitian yang didapatkan dari toko online Halo Jaket Bandung dalam manajemen bisnis dan strategi penjualan produk pada platform shopee, adalah 1) Menetapkan dan menjalankan strategi pemasaran menggunakan strategi STP (Segmentasi, Target, dan Posisi Produk), segmentasi dengan memanfaatkan keadaan geografis kota bandung dan daerah lain yang dingin sehingga kebutuhan dan permintaan jaket sangatlah besar, Target konsumen menyasar pada kelompok remaja, dan dewasa, dan orang tua, sedangkan pada sisi posisi produk, Halo Jaket Bandung menciptakan brand, kemasan, packaging yang menarik, produk fisik yang berkualitas, dan marketing yang dilakukan yakni secara online menggunakan platform shopee dan platform lain seperti tiktok, instagram, tokopedia, dan linktree. 2) Membuat perencanaan keuangan dengan tepat, dengan melakukan input dan pencatatan agar setiap transaksi dapat terpantau sehingga mudah untuk dikontrol. 3) Mempekerjakan karyawan profesional dibidangnya, tanpa melihat kualifikasi pendidikan namun mau belajar hal baru dalam penggunaan aplikasi, cara dalam melayani, merespon, dan melakukan interaksi dengan atitude yang baik terhadap pelanggan. 4) Menjalin hubungan baik dengan vendor atau supplier, dikarenakan dalam pembuatan jenis jaket ini selalu melibatkan pihak vendor dan supplier sehingga kegiatan produksi dapat berjalan sesuai jadwal dan menghasilkan produk yang berkualitas. 6) memanfaatkan teknologi digital, seperti smartpone dan komputer/ laptop dalam operasionalnya yang dilakukan secara decentralize. Jadi dimanapun dapat bekerja asalkan memiliki jangkauan internet, terlebih penggunaan platform shoppe yang user friendly dalam memberikan kemudahan manajemen dan penjualan produk.
