Abstract

Abrasion in Muara Gembong District has resulted in changes in the coastline, reaching 3,852 m. Abrasion causes physical, environmental, social, and economic changes, as well as changes in the lives of local people. This study aims to analyze the level of vulnerability due to abrasion in the coastal area of Muara Gembong. This study uses the AHP method to determine the weight of factors influencing vulnerability due to abrasion by involving stakeholders as respondents. Giving value weights to criteria and alternatives, then pairwise comparisons of each stakeholder's opinions. Using proximity analysis techniques, vulnerability zone analysis was carried out using kernel density analysis techniques and analysis regarding the distance from the coast to settlements. The analysis technique using Weighted Overlay is carried out to determine the vulnerability zone based on the results of the factor weight assessment. From the results of the analysis, the factor that has the greatest influence on the vulnerability of the Muara Gembong coastal area due to abrasion is the environmental factor; this shows that if there is environmental damage, especially damage to protected forests and mangrove forests, it will accelerate the process of coastal abrasion. The analysis results show that 85.10% of the coastal area of Muara Gembong is in the moderate vulnerability zone, 14.25% is in the high vulnerability zone, and 0.65% is in the low vulnerability zone. The results of the superimpose between the spatial pattern plan of Muara Gembong District and the Vulnerability Map show that the directions for developing activities for cultivation areas dominated by residential activities are in high and medium vulnerability zones. In contrast, low vulnerability zones are directed toward developing non-settlement cultivation areas.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the interrelation between social solidarity, value systems, and tourism policy within the cultural contexts of the Compang tradition in West Manggarai and the Uma Lengge tradition in Bima, by interrogating the extent to which the integration of local cultural practices into tourism contributes to the reinforcement of collective identity or, conversely, to its potential degradation under the hegemony of market logic. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design, the research engages indigenous communities in Melo Village (West Manggarai) and Maria Village (Wawo, Bima) as primary subjects, alongside institutional tourism actors, utilizing in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation as the principal techniques of data collection. The data were analyzed through qualitative thematic analysis and strengthened by triangulation to ensure validity and reliability. The findings reveal that the Compang and Uma Lengge traditions continue to function as loci of social cohesion, collective identity, and spirituality, yet the intervention of tourism has engendered a transformation of their sacred functions into aesthetic performances, triggering social fragmentation and inequities in the distribution of economic benefits most pronounced in the case of Compang, which is more vulnerable to commodification. In contrast, Uma Lengge demonstrates stronger community participation and relatively fairer benefit distribution, though it still faces the risk of desacralization. The study concludes that the sustainability of cultural tourism can only be secured through policy paradigms that are participatory, equitable, and grounded in substantive cultural recognition, positioning indigenous communities not merely as objects of tourism but as primary agents of social transformation.

Abstract

The schism within the Islamic community reached its zenith following the Battle of Ṣiffīn, when the process of Taḥkīm, intended to alleviate the conflict between Ali ibn Abi Talib and Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan, instead incited theological divisions. This research focuses on how Taḥkīm transformed the dispute from practical politics into doctrinal debate, giving rise to various sectarian movements. This study aims to critically and historically examine the role of Taḥkīm in the emergence of sects such as the Khawārij, Shīʿah, Murjiʾah, and other theological factions. The methodology employed is a literature review, analysing classical documents and contemporary academic literature that discuss the socio-political context, the arbitration process, and the responses of various groups following Taḥkīm. The findings indicate that this arbitration not only resolved military disputes but also served as a catalyst for the formation of a fragmented Islamic intellectual structure. The implications of this study underscore the importance of re-reading the history of internal Islamic conflict in an objective and inclusive manner, enabling the community to learn from past experiences, maintain unity, and avoid the politicisation of religion that could undermine brotherhood.
