Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine how variations in lens power affect the clarity, sharpness, and magnification of the resulting image, and to find the most efficient combination of lens power to produce the best image. This study used a quantitative approach through direct experiments. The tools used in this study included an objective lens with +200 diopters, glasses with +100 and +50 diopters, a light source, an observer screen, a lens mount, and a distance meter. Data were collected through direct observation, magnification measurements, and image clarity assessment using a Likert scale. The results showed that eye lenses with lower magnification power (+50 D) produced more stable images, higher clarity scores (average 4.2/5), and lower focus stability (clarity score 3.4/5). However, lenses with higher magnification power (+100 D) produced greater magnification (up to 2×) but with lower clarity scores (average 4.2/5). This study provides empirical data on lens power variations in low-cost, classroom-based optical systems, a topic rarely studied in astronomy education research. This contrasts with most previous studies, which primarily focus on theoretical modeling or optimization of commercial telescopes. The novelty of this study is the use of lens power combinations in a simple, inexpensive, and reproducible educational experiment. This research enhances the quality of physics learning, particularly in students' understanding of optical concepts and their application of contextual practices in educational settings.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation of the direct instruction model based on interactive multimedia and the lecture model as well as the differences in the improvement of students' cognitive learning outcomes after the two models are applied to the material of effort and energy. The method in this study uses a quasi-experimental method, with a Noneequivalent Control Group design. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely class X-IPA 1 as the experimental class and class X-IPA 2 as the control class, each consisting of 20 students. Data on the implementation of learning were obtain-ed through observation sheets and students' cognitive learning outcomes were obtained through multiple-choice tests. The data analysis technique used the calculation of the observation sheet, N-gain, and t-test. The results showed that the average percentage of all meetings on the implementation of learning in the experimental class was 82.78% with very good interpretation and 71.85% in the control class with good interpretation. The increase in students' cognitive learning outcomes in the experimental class was 0.58 in the medium category and in the control class was 0.29 in the low category. The results of hypothesis testing using an independent sample t-test showed the value of tcount (3.56) > ttable (2.02). The results showed that there were differences in the cognitive learning outcomes of students who studied with an interactive multimedia-based direct instruction model and lecture model. Thus, the interactive multimedia-based direct instruction model is better in improving students' cognitive learning outcomes in the matter of effort and energy. This study could be implemented in schools with proper or non-proper laboratory facilities for supporting the learning of physics.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze current trends and emerging issues in the science curriculum through a bibliometric approach using VOSviewer software. A total of 200 recent articles from reputable internationally indexed scientific publications published between 2020 and 2025 were collected and analyzed based on the keyword “science curriculum.” The results of the co-occurrence and density visualization analyses indicate that research on the science curriculum is divided into two main clusters. The first cluster focuses on pedagogical approaches, such as inquiry-based learning, teacher roles, classroom context, and project-based learning, emphasizing the development of 21st-century skills and student learning performance. The second cluster reveals emerging trends toward the integration of technology and artificial intelligence, including artificial intelligence, computer science curriculum, and data analysis, reflecting the transformation of the curriculum toward the digital era. Overall, the bibliometric findings indicate a shift in the science curriculum paradigm from conventional approaches toward adaptive and technology-based learning, with an emphasis on the development of digital competencies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and creativity in science education. These findings highlight the importance of curriculum innovation that integrates STEM approaches and artificial intelligence (AI) literacy to address the challenges of 21st-century education.

Abstract

Students' critical thinking skills in the topic of simple harmonic vibrations are still relatively low, so a learning model that can optimize these abilities is needed. This study aims to analyze the implementation of learning using the OIDDE Model and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) assisted by Liveworksheets, and to measure the resulting improvement in critical thinking skills. The research method used was a quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design, involving 36 students each in experimental classes I and II. The results showed that the implementation of learning in both models was in the very good category (OIDDE 89% and PBL 85%), and there was a significant increase in critical thinking skills in both models, with an n-gain of 0.73 in experimental class I and 0.71 in experimental class II. Statistical tests showed a difference in critical thinking improvement between the two models. This study indicates that the application of the OIDDE Model provides superior improvement compared to PBL in learning simple harmonic vibrations, making it an effective alternative learning model for developing students' critical thinking skill.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of a cookbook-based practicum method as an experimental technique in physics learning, particularly for the concept of liquid surface tension, and to examine its limitations related to the effects of temperature and rope length. The experiment was conducted at the Integrated Laboratory of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung using simple materials such as soapy water, yarn, chopsticks, and a thermometer. This study examines the relationship between temperature and surface tension, which is theoretically inversely proportional. However, the experimental results show that surface tension increases with increasing temperature, indicating a direct relationship. This discrepancy between experimental results and theory occurs due to a decrease in liquid temperature during the practicum process, where the initial temperature of the hot water at  72°C decreased to near room temperature (22°C) by the end of the experiment, thereby affecting the measured surface tension values. The study also shows that variations in rope length affect the radius and surface tension of the liquid, indicating a shift in the distribution of intermolecular forces at the surface. The implications of these findings highlight the importance of monitoring experimental conditions and the need for a laboratory approach that is both more accurate and practical for educational purposes. These findings further emphasize that the cookbook-based practicum method is effective in supporting qualitative understanding of surface tension concepts, but has limitations in quantitative accuracy. Therefore, this study encourages the development of more structured and controlled simple practicum guidelines to support physics learning in educational laboratories.

Abstract

Curriculum changes that adapt to current developments often create new obstacles in the implementation of learning. This study aims to analyze the problems and challenges in the implementation of the Natural Sciences (IPA) curriculum in Indonesia through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method and bibliometric analysis. Twenty-three scientific articles published between 2021 and 2025 were analyzed using the Publish or Perish (PoP) tool for bibliographic data collection and VOSviewer for research network map visualization. The analysis results show a significant increase in publications from 2024 to 2025, indicating that the Independent Curriculum topic is currently a primary focus of science education research. Keyword mapping resulted in three main clusters: difficulties for teachers and students in understanding and implementing Independent Curriculum-based science learning, challenges in implementing the Independent Curriculum and the role of science teachers, and contextual issues such as limited facilities, low scientific literacy, and the integration of local wisdom. The study also identified a research gap regarding the effectiveness of the Independent Curriculum in improving science literacy and student character. Therefore, improving teacher curriculum literacy, cross-institutional research collaboration, and strengthening science learning based on technology and local wisdom are needed to achieve contextual and modern learning.
