Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the strategies employed in the implementation of Chem-PjBL-L-NTT-W (the Integration of NTT local wisdom in PjBL for chemistry), their effects on crucial learning skills (CLS), attitudes toward chemistry learning (ATCL), and comprehension of concepts. An investigation into students' perspectives and the difficulties encountered by teachers during implementation has been undertaken. A quantitative and qualitative research study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. Paired t-test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used based on the normality of the data obtained by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The results showed that the implementation strategy of the Chem-PjBL-L-NTT-W model was carried out through the identification and integration of the characteristics of chemistry materials with NTT local wisdom, along with the determination of three project themes for each learning material. The implementation of this model has a significant effect on CLS and ATCL, with variations in effects based on the school context. The effect on CLS was strong for senior high school students in the TTS regency, moderate in the Belu regency, and statistically significant but with a very small effect in the TTU regency. Regarding the ATCL aspect, there was a significant and strong effect in TTS, but the practical improvement was relatively minimal. In contrast, in Belu, the effect was very small and inconsistent. Students' concept comprehension in all three regencies showed significant improvement, with a range of confidence intervals indicating meaningful practical effects. Geographical location, facility and infrastructure availability, teacher readiness, school policies, and student interest have been recognized as critical determinants.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the contribution of the integrated batik learning model of leadership projects to the competency development of students in the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) for Cultural Arts within the implementation of the Independent Curriculum. This model is designed to cultivate students' practical skills in managing art projects while embedding leadership within a cultural context. Employing a case study method with a qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that integrating batik learning with leadership projects enhances students’ creativity, collaboration, and ability to manage artistic productions. Additionally, students demonstrate significant improvements in leadership capabilities, particularly in organizing and managing art-related projects. This learning model aligns with the core principles of the Independent Curriculum, which emphasize a project-based approach and character development. The study recommends further development to broaden the implementation of this model in the field of cultural arts education.

Abstract

Collaborative Learning (CL) is a learning model that implies cooperation in a group consisting of two or more people to achieve a common goal while respecting each individuals contribution as a whole. CL is more synonymous with social interaction. In the learning process, the centre of attention is the interaction of educators with students, interactions between students, and interactions of students with their environment. The purpose of this review is to look at global trends related to CL research in the field of Chemistry Education. Obtained 62,555 articles discussing CL with various keywords, 88 of which are relevant to the purpose of this article review. After being mapped, there are five research themes related to CL, namely (1) CL based on student activities and the role of educators, (2) Collaboration Strategy for STEM, (3) CL based game, (4) Computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL), and (5) CL in Laboratory Work. Based on the review findings, research related to CL has excellent potential to be continued and developed, such as collaboration with STEM, games, practicum in the laboratory, and CSCL.

Abstract

Most chemical concepts are abstract, hierarchical, and constructed from basic to complex concepts. Lewis structure, VSEPR theory, molecular geometry, and molecular symmetry have hierarchical idea. This study attempted to characterize and determine the relationship between students’ knowledge of Lewis structure, VSEPR theory, molecular geometry, and molecular symmetry of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year chemistry students at a public university. This study involved 88 students in total selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. The instrument was a relevant short-answer question on the three topics. The data were measured using nonparametric statistics, especially the Kruskal-Wallis difference and Spearman Rank correlation tests.  This study’s results show differences in understanding of Lewis structure, molecular geometry, and symmetry between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-years students. The 3rd-year students always performed better than the 1st and 2nd-year students for all topics. The test result confirms a positive and strong relationship between students’ understanding of Lewis structure and molecular geometry for the three groups of students with ρ values of 0.979, 0.979, and 0.966 (< 0.01) for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year students, respectively.

Abstract

Character education has always been the focus of attention in the world of education in Indonesia. Creativity as an important form of character must really be measured with the right assessment instrument. Project Based Learning is a learning model that is able to explore the creativity of students. In this paper, a meta-review is conducted on the instruments for assessing student creativity in project-based learning on studies published in journals indexed by the Scopus database in 2011-2021. The results of this study show that the assessment of students' creativity in project-based learning by utilizing local wisdom has been widely carried out but has not found an assessment that focuses on all dimensions of creativity. In each PjBL syntax an assessment can be made, by adjusting the syntax to the creativity dimension which includes the dimensions of press, process, person, and product, but based on the results of the review there are no articles related to the implementation of PjBL based on local wisdom on the assessment of students' creativity, so the learning assessment only focuses on in the final condition does not include the learning process. Keywords: project based learning, creativity, systematic literature study. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i4.pp1504-1514

Abstract

Efforts to assist students in understanding generally abstract chemical concepts are widely done using visual representations as a form of multiple representations in chemistry. This article evaluates and identifies articles from the year (2013-2023) through search engines that provide international services and national journal pages that can be accessed using 4 databases, namely, science direct, eric, google scholar, and crossref. Based on predefined criteria for the use of visual representation in chemistry to improve Higher Order Thinking Skills, 13 relevant articles were obtained. The results of the review show that visual representation can be utilized to train and improve higher-order thinking skills, especially critical, logical, reflective, metacognitive, and creative thinking. Visual representation has also been applied to several approaches or learning models such as Multiple Representation, Particulate Representation, 5R, SWH, Marzano's Taxonomy, Use of Concept Maps, and PcBL.
