Abstract

This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the integration of religious moderation values within the Islamic boarding school (pesantren) education system and its impact on the development of tolerant, inclusive, and peace-oriented student character. The research stems from growing concerns over social polarization and the rise of religious extremism, underscoring the urgent need to reinforce the values of Islam as a religion of compassion (rahmatan lil ‘alamin). A qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis as the primary methods of data collection. The findings reveal that core values of moderation such as tolerance, non-violence, national commitment, and respect for diversity are holistically embedded within pesantren life through curriculum design, daily religious practices, and exemplary leadership by kyai and teachers. Integration strategies include strengthening lessons in aqidah, fiqh, and ethics, promoting interfaith dialogue, and cultivating an inclusive pesantren culture. The study highlights that pesantren hold strategic potential in shaping a generation of Muslims capable of peaceful coexistence in multicultural societies. However, challenges remain, particularly the influence of transnational ideological currents contrary to the spirit of moderation and the limited capacity of educators to contextualize these values effectively. Therefore, adaptive and collaborative Islamic education policies involving the government, pesantren institutions, and civil society are crucial to reinforce the role of pesantren as the foundation of religious moderation in Indonesia.

Abstract

The public financial management system includes state revenues and expenditures which include kharaj, zakat, jizyah, ushur, and ghanimah. This system aims to create justice and optimize state revenue. Second, Abu Ubaid emphasized the importance of fair, transparent, and community-friendly distribution of public finances, as well as maintaining the balance of economic power to reduce inequality. The application of these principles requires fair policies, strict supervision, and the use of public funds to meet social needs, in order to achieve social justice and stability in society. This research uses a library research approach to explore the concept of public financial policy in Islam from the perspective of Abu Ubaid al-Qasimy. This method was chosen because it allows for an in-depth study of a wide range of relevant literature, including primary texts such as the Kitab al-Amwal by Abu Ubaid al-Qasimy as well as secondary literature that discusses his thoughts.

Abstract

This study aims to adapt and validate the Ethical Leadership Scale (ELS) into Indonesian to provide a reliable score and valid interpretation for measuring ethical leadership in Indonesian organizational contexts. The adaptation process involved forward translation, synthesis, expert panel review, and pre-testing. Validity evidence was supported by Aiken’s V index with inputs from organizational psychology experts. Data were collected from Indonesian participants and analyzed using generalized structured component analysis with measurement errors incorporated (GSCAM) and reliability estimates, including Omega coefficients. Invariance investigation across demographic variables was also conducted. The Indonesian version of the ELS demonstrated strong content evidence (Aiken’s V ≥ 0.80) and excellent internal consistency (ω = 0.920), fulfilling model fit indices. Measurement invariance analysis confirmed that the adapted scale was equivalent across gender, education level, marital status, and job position, indicating its robustness in diverse groups. The findings indicate that the Indonesian version of the ELS is a psychometrically sound and culturally appropriate tool for assessing ethical leadership. This instrument offers theoretical and practical contributions, enabling researchers and practitioners to examine and promote ethical leadership in Indonesian organizational settings.

The data were analyzed through a process that includes reduction, presentation, verification, and the formulation of conclusions. The findings reveal that, according to the Madurese community, birrul walidayn (abhakte ka oreng towa) is a behavior comprising words and/or actions toward one's parents, reflecting devotion, loyalty, obedience, submission, respect, love, and affection, to please the parents. Birrul walidayn refers to a child’s behavior that aligns with values of devotion, loyalty, obedience, submission, respect, and affection, intended to make parents happy with their child's actions. It is not merely about what is spoken or done but is deeply connected to the heart. Actions and speech must align with heartfelt feelings that embody positive values for parents. Birrul walidayn is a social behavioral concept rooted in Islamic teachings derived from the Qur'an and Hadith. The contributions of this study include: enhancing the understanding of contextual Islamic studies, contributing to the fields of anthropology and education, developing social concepts within Islam, and highlighting the relevance of local values in character building.

Abstract

Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar is a national political figure facing image challenges due to several controversies, such as the "durian cardboard" corruption case, the decline of PKB's votes in the 2009 election, and conflicts with Gus Dur that resurfaced following statements by Yenny Wahid. Ahead of the 2024 presidential election, he seeks to reconstruct his political image through nonverbal communication in his declaration video. This study analyzes the content of the political declaration, the forms of artifactual communication, and positive image building strategies. Using a qualitative approach and Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic theory, the study found that the artifactual communication employed falls under symbolic practices (practical artifacts), which convey emotional information, behavior, and identity differentiation. To build a positive image, a low-fashion strategy is used to portray simplicity, closeness to the people, and cultural ties with Nahdliyin voters. This strategy serves as an important tool for constructing political symbols that strengthen identity and effectively gain public sympathy.
