Abstract

Purpose: To identify key variables (regulations, institutions, political conditions, and macroeconomic conditions) that influence M&A and FDI. This will provide a clearer understanding of the mechanisms of the relationship between M&A and FDI and identify remaining research gaps to support policy formulation. Methods: This study employed a literature review, an approach aimed at collecting, evaluating, and synthesizing relevant existing literature on a specific research topic. Findings: Regulations and policies play a significant role. External factors such as bilateral relations (US–Philippines, China–Philippines), infrastructure quality, and the availability of skilled labor have also been shown to influence investment flows. There is a disparity in benefits: some sectors (banking, infrastructure, public utilities) enjoy more positive impacts, while others are still limited by regulatory and market structure issues. Implications: For the government, this study emphasizes the need for consistency in the application of laws and regulations to promote a healthy and attractive market for foreign investors. For local companies, M&A should not be viewed solely as a means of asset expansion. For foreign investors, regulatory and governance conditions must be considered and considered in acquisition strategies. Originality: This study emphasizes non-financial aspects (regulation, political stability, institutional capacity, governance) that are often overlooked in previous quantitative studies.

Abstract

The grouper (Epinephelus sp.) is a marine fish species that is widely cultivated commercially for hatchery and grow–out purposes and shows a promising production prospect. The structure and development of fish intestines are influenced by internal and external factors, such as water quality, feed quality, and feed quantity. However, even though the protein content in the diet is relatively high, the growth performance of Epinephelus lanceolatus × Epinephelus fuscoguttatus remains low. This study aimed to determine the effect of papaya simplicia supplementation on grouper growth, specifically absolute weight gain and protein efficiency ratio. The experiment used a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and three replications (A: papaya simplicia 5%, B: 3.75%, C: 2.5%, D: 1.25%, and E: 0% as the control). Groupers were reared in floating net cages in Pangandaran Regency, Indonesia. Supplementation of papaya simplicia at 3.75% and 5% increased the number of necrotic cells (169 and 183 cells, respectively), as well as the number of goblet cells. The addition of papaya simplicia at 5%, 3.75%, and 2.5% increased the absolute weight gain to 161.36 g, 152.19 g, and 152.09 g, respectively. Supplementation at 5% and 3.75% also increased the protein efficiency ratio to 3.18% and 3.19%, respectively.

Abstract

Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals can provide information on abnormalities in a person's brain and characterize brain activity. Brain injury or diseases can manifest as brain disorders. Trauma or the use of specific chemicals or medications, such as alcohol, can result in brain damage. Previous research has demonstrated variations in the patterns of EEG signals between alcohol-using and non-drinking people. Various techniques, including wavelet and entropy, have been developed to detect alcoholic EEG using event-related potential (ERP) testing. This work proposes a feature extraction technique based on texture analysis for the classification of alcohol EEG signals because ERP-measured EEG often involves many channels.  An NxM image is thought to be equivalent to an EEG signal with N channels and a recording duration of M samples. The NxM matrix is formed by channelizing the N-channel EEG signal in this investigation. Normalization is then used to get a matrix value of 0-255 or an 8-bit image in the following step. Five features are measured in four directions, and the Grey Level Difference Matrix (GLDM) approach is utilized for feature extraction. Using five grey-level difference matrix (GLDM) features and linear discriminant analysis as a classifier, the maximum accuracy was achieved at 73.3%. Image processing can still be used to increase accuracy even though the final product is less accurate than the earlier technique. The suggested approach can still be adjusted to work with biomedical signals or image processing techniques like the Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM).

Abstract

The use of gadgets in early childhood is currently increasing along with technological advances. Although gadgets have benefits as a medium for learning and entertainment, excessive use can also have negative impacts on children's physical, social, and emotional development. This community service activity aims to provide information about the dangers of excessive gadget use for children in five Early Childhood Education (PAUD) units, namely PAUD Ananda, PAUD Pelita Hati, PAUD Anggrek Permai, PAUD Cahaya Jabal Rahmah, and PAUD At-Thoyyibah. located in Klandasan Ilir Village, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The method used was counseling activities through material delivery and interactive discussions with teachers, parents, and students. The results show that teachers' and parents' understanding of the negative effects of excessive gadget use increased after the outreach activities. This socialization program is effective in increasing awareness and the active role of parents and teachers in preventing the negative impacts of gadgets that can hinder the growth and development of early childhood. Parents need to limit and supervise their children's gadget use with appropriate time and content regulations, as well as encourage physical and social activities, supported by ongoing collaboration between cadres, PAUD educators, and the sub-district.

Abstract

This study investigates the stock market reaction of Indonesia’s mining and energy sectors, represented by LQ45 index constituents, toward the 2024 presidential inauguration and cabinet announcement. Using an event study methodology with an event window of t-7 to t+7, the research measures market responses through abnormal returns based on the market-adjusted model. Results show that the pre-inauguration period is characterized by predominantly negative Average Abnormal Returns (AAR) and Cumulative Abnormal Returns (CAR), indicating heightened uncertainty surrounding the incoming administration. On the inauguration day, both indicators turn positive, reflecting temporary optimism regarding political stability and policy continuity. However, the post-event window displays volatility, with sharp positive abnormal returns on certain days (e.g., t+3) but declines on others (e.g., t+2). Most t-statistics are statistically insignificant, suggesting that the inauguration did not generate strong or persistent market reactions.
