Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the guided question technique is effective in improving the writing skills of grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 20 Palu. The researcher used a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this study consisted of 111 class VIII students at SMP Negeri 20 Palu. The sample of this study consisted of class VIII B, an experimental class with 29 students, and class VIII C, a control class with 29 students. The sample selection in this study used simple random sampling. The researcher administered pretests and posttests during data collection. The results showed that the average value of the experimental class students on the posttest (75.29) was significantly higher than that of the control class students (58.62). The significance value (Asymp. 2-tailed) is 0.001, which is smaller than the p-value of 0.05; this indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In conclusion, the guided question technique effectively improved the writing skills of grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 20 Palu.

Abstract

Flashcards are learning media in the form of double-sided cards that contain images and words. The objective of this research is to prove whether the use of flashcards can increase vocabulary of the seventh-grade students of SMPK GPID Sumbersari. This research used a quasi-experimental design involving two groups: experimental and control groups. The population consisted of two seventh grade classes. The data were collected through vocabulary test, which was administered twice as pre-test and post-test. Because the data were not normally distributed, the data were analyzed using the Mann- Whitney U test through SPSS version 24. The results showed that the difference between the post-test scores of the control and experimental classes differences significantly from 67 to 88. The Mann-Whitney test showed that both the experimental and control classes had a significant improvement (Z = -2.102, p = 0.036). It indicates that the research hypothesis is accepted. Thus, the use of flashcards can increase vocabulary of the seventh-grade students of SMPK GPID Sumbersari.

Abstract

Abstract: Children who experience stunting will have a height that is not appropriate for their age. This problem can have long-term effects on the physical and cognitive development of children, which affects their quality of life in the future. The general objective of this study is to determine the determinants of stunting: a review of exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding. The research design used in this study is case control. The study was conducted in the Mangulewa Health Center Working Area, Golewa Barat Subdistrict, Ngada District. The study was conducted in January 2024. The population in this study consisted of all toddlers in Golewa Barat Subdistrict, totaling 654 toddlers, with 136 stunted toddlers and 518 non-stunted toddlers. The sample size was 104, consisting of 52 case samples and 52 control samples. The sampling technique used was probability sampling with the Simple Random Sampling method. The research instrument used was a research questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods. The results of the study indicate a relationship between the history of exclusive breastfeeding (p-value: 0.025) and MP ASI (p-value: 0.044) with stunting. It is recommended that mothers of toddlers increase their children's intake of animal protein by modifying animal protein foods into forms and flavors that children prefer, so that children are more interested and do not get bored with the side dishes provided. Since the introduction of complementary foods at 6 months of age, it is important to introduce a variety of animal protein sources to toddlers. Keywords: Exclusive breastfeeding, toddlers, stunting.

The sample of 50 students in this research was randomly selected from the total population of 268 eighth grade students. Due to the non-normal distribution of the data, the Mann-Whitney U test was employed for statistical analysis. The finding demonstrates an improvement in the mean score of both groups; the experimental group improved from 41.56 to 55.16, while the control group increased from 44.88 to 49.24. However, the Mann-Whitney U ranks test showed a non-significant difference between the two classes (p>0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that the Riddle game is inefficient to expand students’ vocabulary mastery.

The findings revealed that the students’ pronunciation improve after getting the treatment. Based on the calculation, the mean score of posttest (72.73) is higher than the mean score of pre-test (43.07). It is supported by the data analysis using paired sample t-test. It showed that the value of Sig.(2-tailed) is lower than the chosen alpha level (0.000 0.05). Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It can be concluded that the use of minimal pairs can improve pronunciation of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Sigi. Abstract

Many (EFL) frequently encounter difficulties in developing their speaking abilities, frequently because of restricted chances for practice and the lack of of interactive activities in the classroom. This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Dixit board game in enhancing the speaking abilities of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 9 Palu through a quasi-experimental design. The study included two groups: class XI MIA 2, which acted as the experimental group, and class XI MIA 1, which served as the control group, both selected through purposive sampling. A speaking test was employed as the research instrument, focusing on three main criteria: fluency, accuracy, and comprehensibility. Both groups underwent a pre-test and a post-test, with the experimental group participating in six treatment sessions using the Dixit board game. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25. The results indicated that the average score of the experimental group increased from 54.46 to 76.46, while the control group’s score rose from 49.10 to 59.20. The Shapiro-Wilk test confirmed normal distribution of the data, and Levene’s Test indicated equal variances (p = 0.610 > 0.05). A paired sample t-test demonstrated a significant improvement in the experimental group (p = 0.000 < 0.05), and an independent sample t-test revealed a significant difference in post-test scores between the two groups (p = 0.000 < 0.05). These findings suggest that utilizing the Dixit board game significantly enhances students’ speaking skills and supports its use as an interactive and student-centered tool in EFL speaking instruction.
