Abstract

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of gamification in education, with Quizizz emerging as a popular tool for interaction between teachers and students. This systematic review focuses on previous research examining the effects of Quizizz on vocabulary skills, particularly among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Adhering to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, the study accessed ten journal articles published between 2019 and 2024 via Google Scholar and Crossref. Through rigorous review processes, including inclusion and exclusion criteria, this review investigates how Quizizz is utilized in educational settings to enhance student vocabulary skills. The findings underscore Quizizz's potential to offer engaging features that facilitate vocabulary learning and improvement among students The practical implications of this study suggest that EFL teachers should consider integrating Quizizz into their classrooms. Quizizz can effectively complement traditional teaching methods or be utilized independently for vocabulary practice. Future research should explore the long-term effects of using Quizizz on vocabulary retention, its applicability across different proficiency levels, and its impact on students' motivation for vocabulary acquisition.

Abstract

This study employs an explanatory mixed method design to investigate the user experience and enjoyment of ChatGPT among 219 grade 12 students and four English teachers at one high school in Bali. Quantitative data were collected using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) and analyzed with the Data Analysis Tool, while qualitative data were gathered through interviews and subjected to thematic analysis. Results reveal that students had generally positive experiences across dimensions such as attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, dependability, and novelty but reported neutral stimulation levels, attributed to high technology dependence and limited social interaction. In contrast, teachers reported uniformly positive experiences across all dimensions and demonstrated greater personal and social enjoyment. The findings indicate that user enjoyment significantly influences overall ChatGPT user experience in educational contexts. This study highlights the need to enhance engagement strategies to improve stimulation for student users, offering important insights for AI integration in education.

Abstract

This study examines the procedures and challenges of teaching English to deaf students at SLB Negeri 1 Karangasem during the 2024/2025 academic year. Using a qualitative approach, it incorporates classroom observations and in-depth interviews with English teachers to analyze teaching methods, communication strategies, and lesson structuring. The findings reveal that teachers follow a structured nine-step procedure, including lesson preparation, clear visibility, structured speech, repetition, communication aids, visual reinforcement, written support, expressive communication, and comprehension checks. These strategies align with previous research emphasizing multimodal approaches in deaf education. Despite these structured methods, teachers face challenges such as limited student vocabulary, pronunciation difficulties, and low motivation due to the complexity of English. They combine sign language, visual media, interactive digital tools, and personalized learning techniques to address these issues and enhance engagement. The study underscores the importance of structured and adaptive teaching strategies in supporting deaf students' language learning. Additionally, it highlights the need for ongoing professional training for teachers in special education, equipping them with effective methodologies to improve instruction. These findings contribute to the broader field of special education, particularly in advancing English language teaching for students with hearing impairments.

Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, particularly generative tools like ChatGPT, has significantly reshaped how language learning is approached in higher education. However, while much has been said about the potential benefits of AI, there remains a lack of empirical research on students’ actual experiences. This study investigates the user experience (UX) of 110 English Language Education (ELE) students at Universitas in Bali using ChatGPT to support their English learning. The User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) was employed to measure six key dimensions: Attractiveness, Perspicuity, Efficiency, Dependability, Stimulation, and Novelty. The results indicate that students perceived ChatGPT positively across all dimensions, especially in terms of ease of use, emotional engagement, and learning efficiency. Validity and reliability tests confirmed the robustness of the instrument. The findings highlight ChatGPT’s potential not only as a functional educational tool but also as a motivational and user-friendly platform. However, the study also underscores the need for digital literacy and ethical guidance to ensure responsible use. This research contributes to a more nuanced understanding of AI in language education and provides insights for educators and policymakers aiming to integrate AI meaningfully into curriculum design.

Abstract

The rapid growth of AI-based tools in education, particularly the increasing use of ChatGPT, has created an urgent need to understand how students perceive and engage with this technology to ensure its effective integration into English language learning. This research explores university students’ acceptance and enjoyment of using ChatGPT in English language learning among English Education students at Ganesha University of Education. The study employed a sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were collected through a survey consisting of 281 students, while qualitative data were collected from semi-structured interviews with 9 students selected through purposive sampling to capture more in-depth perspectives from active ChatGPT users. In the quantitative phase, students’ acceptance levels were examined using the modified Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) which included Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, Behavioral Intention, and Perceived Enjoyment. The results showed that students’ acceptance was categorized as high level, with an average score of 75.1, indicating that students generally accept ChatGPT as part of their English language learning. Qualitative results further revealed the psychological factors, particularly enjoyment, that significantly influenced students’ acceptance of ChatGPT. The students’ enjoyment was shaped by individual factors, learning environments, and the influence of lecturers. Overall, the findings highlight that students’ acceptance and enjoyment of ChatGPT are intertwined. Students’ willingness to integrate ChatGPT is also reinforced by positive and enjoyable learning experiences. These results suggest educators and institutions should design AI-assisted learning environments that are engaging, interactive and emotionally supportive. Creating such environments can enhance students’ technology adoption.

Abstract

Inclusive education seeks to ensure equal learning opportunities for all students, including those with special needs, yet teaching English in inclusive classrooms presents specific pedagogical challenges. This study investigates the supporting and inhibiting factors in English teaching at SD N 2 Bengkala, North Bali, a school that integrates students with hearing impairments into regular classrooms. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations and in-depth interviews with the English teacher. The findings indicate that effective English instruction in this inclusive setting is supported by teacher adaptability, the use of visual media and concrete learning materials, assistance from special needs support teachers, peer support from regular students, and a positive classroom climate. However, several challenges persist, including communication barriers with deaf students, differences in learning abilities, emotional fluctuations, and environmental distractions. More complex English skills, such as listening, speaking, and writing, were found to be more difficult to teach than vocabulary. Overall, the study underscores the importance of adaptive teaching strategies and collaborative support in addressing learner diversity, while also highlighting ongoing challenges that require continuous adjustment to achieve inclusive English learning.
