Abstract

The purpose of incorporating digital learning materials into vocational school English instruction is to assist students in acquiring specific competencies. Additionally, prepared digital learning materials are intended to assist teachers in developing instructional materials that follow the principles of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in vocational high schools (SMK). The research used the qualitative research and development (R&D) method. The stages of developing this teaching material model are adapted from Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel's 4Ds model (1974), which consists of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. As data sources, the participants were two teachers from two different vocational schools with a combined enrolment of 115 students. This research's results are a model for developing digital-based teaching materials (prepared digital learning materials). Furthermore, it was discovered that using the prepared digital learning materials greatly aided teachers in teaching English to achieve specific competencies. From the students' perspective, they admitted that it was also exciting because they perceived learning as distinct from traditional   learning materials due to digital materials usage.

Abstract

Previous research on ChatGPT has revealed mixed attitudes among teachers and students, highlighting the need for further investigation. While most studies focused on the university level, there is an essential gap in attitude research focusing on secondary school settings, exploring the enjoyment that affects attitudes. This study aimed to investigate teachers’ and students’ attitudes and enjoyment towards ChatGPT in English language learning. An explanatory sequential mixed-method design was employed, involving 8 English teachers and 311 students from a secondary school in Singaraja. The data in this study were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The quantitative findings showed positive attitudes among teachers and students, but based on the constituent aspects, it is shown that teachers tended to have more positive attitudes than students. Qualitative interviews further highlighted that ChatGPT contributed to emotional experiences influenced by the tool's strengths and weaknesses, as well as social perceptions of users. These findings suggested that integrating ChatGPT into English language learning stimulated positive responses due to its advantages in reducing academic burdens. However, the tool's shortcomings have also drawn attention, including triggering negative behavioral risks and overreliance among students. English educators needed to guide students in using ChatGPT more ethically by rechecking and confirming students' answers suspected to be AI-based. In addition, policymakers can initiate ChatGPT and AI training periodically to enhance teachers’ compatibility, particularly for senior teachers.

Abstract

This study examines the procedures and challenges of teaching English to deaf students at SLB Negeri 1 Karangasem during the 2024/2025 academic year. Using a qualitative approach, it incorporates classroom observations and in-depth interviews with English teachers to analyze teaching methods, communication strategies, and lesson structuring. The findings reveal that teachers follow a structured nine-step procedure, including lesson preparation, clear visibility, structured speech, repetition, communication aids, visual reinforcement, written support, expressive communication, and comprehension checks. These strategies align with previous research emphasizing multimodal approaches in deaf education. Despite these structured methods, teachers face challenges such as limited student vocabulary, pronunciation difficulties, and low motivation due to the complexity of English. They combine sign language, visual media, interactive digital tools, and personalized learning techniques to address these issues and enhance engagement. The study underscores the importance of structured and adaptive teaching strategies in supporting deaf students' language learning. Additionally, it highlights the need for ongoing professional training for teachers in special education, equipping them with effective methodologies to improve instruction. These findings contribute to the broader field of special education, particularly in advancing English language teaching for students with hearing impairments.

Abstract

The integration of AI-driven digital tools in online English instruction presents unique anxiety challenges for both students and lecturers, particularly in non-native English contexts. This study explores anxiety levels among university students and lecturers engaged in AI-assisted English learning in North Bali. Employing an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, data were collected from 220 students and 20 lecturers using the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) questionnaire and semi-structured interviews with five students and two lecturers. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS for frequency distributions, categorized using Oetting’s Scale, while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis. Results indicated that students experienced mild anxiety, particularly during assessments, due to test-related stress, connectivity issues, and limited access to digital tools. Lecturers, however, exhibited higher anxiety levels, primarily stemming from digital skill gaps and challenges in assessing AI-generated student work. These findings highlight the urgent need for institutional policies that address digital literacy gaps, clearer assessment guidelines, and targeted professional development programs. Additionally, psychological support initiatives can help both students and lecturers manage anxiety effectively. By fostering a supportive and well-prepared educational environment, institutions can enhance digital readiness and reduce anxiety in AI-integrated English learning settings.

Abstract

The development of social skills in junior high school students is a vital component in fostering social-emotional competence, supporting academic achievement, and promoting long-term social adjustment. In light of the growing prevalence of social issues such as bullying, social anxiety, and limited healthy interactions within school environments, group guidance services must adopt more innovative, adaptive, and contextually relevant approaches. This urgency highlights the need for a systematic review of effective group guidance strategies aimed at enhancing students' social skills. This study aims to identify and evaluate innovative strategies in group guidance services through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The review analyzes peer-reviewed articles published between 2018 and 2024, sourced from reputable academic databases including Scopus, ERIC, and Web of Science. A thematic analysis approach is used to examine the effectiveness of various strategies, key components of service delivery, implementation contexts across countries, and their impacts on different dimensions of social skills. The findings reveal that strategies based on experiential learning, role-playing, interactive media, and collaborative activities significantly contribute to improving students' communication, empathy, cooperation, and conflict resolution abilities. Furthermore, the results highlight the critical role of group structure, facilitator competence, and the integration of relevant theoretical frameworks in designing effective group guidance programs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of ethnochemistry as an innovative approach in chemistry education by examining its impact and development strategies based on local wisdom. Ethnochemistry combines cultural practices with chemical concepts to create meaningful and inclusive learning. This study focuses on the impact of ethnochemistry on chemistry learning and its development strategies to support inclusive and multicultural chemistry education. These findings are expected to enrich culturally relevant chemistry education and support the preservation of cultural heritage. This study employed the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, adhering to the PRISMA protocol to ensure transparency and repeatability. The initial search was conducted in Scopus, Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, and Crossref, using the keyword "ethnochemistry." From a total of 225 articles, 27 articles were selected that met the inclusion criteria in the form of publications from 2020-2025. Articles must contain the keyword ethnochemistry or "ethnochemistry" in the title, must not be articles published in proceedings or repositories, must not duplicate articles with the same title, and must be indexed by Scopus or articles accredited by Sinta 1 and 2. The results showed that ethnochemistry significantly improved students' conceptual understanding, 21st-century skills (such as critical and creative thinking), and motivation. This approach also strengthens cultural preservation by connecting chemical concepts and local cultural practices. The main strategies for its development include: (1) Technology-based teaching materials (e.g., AR/VR, Adobe Flash), (2) Contextual learning approaches (e.g., PBL and CRT), (3) Collaboration with local communities, and (4) Expansion of research on underrepresented cultures. It can thus be concluded that ethnochemistry not only enhances the appeal and relevance of chemistry learning but also plays an important role in preserving cultural heritage. To optimize its potential, comprehensive strategies are necessary, including integrating ethnochemistry into the national curriculum, increasing teacher capacity through training, and utilizing digital technologies. Further research is also needed to evaluate the long-term impact and expand its application to various cultural contexts. This approach ensures inclusive, sustainable, and globally relevant chemistry education.    Keywords: ethnochemistry, local wisdom, education, inclusive, systematic review.
