Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze how students’ cognitive styles influence their thinking processes in mathematical problem solving through a Literature Review approach using the PRISMA method (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses). The review identifies and synthesizes various studies related to the relationship between cognitive styles—such as field-dependent (FD), field-independent (FI), reflective, and impulsive—and students’ critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills in mathematics learning. The analysis results show that cognitive style has a significant influence on students’ thinking strategies, mathematical representations, and metacognitive abilities. Students with FI and reflective styles tend to think more analytically and systematically, while FD and impulsive students demonstrate strengths in cooperation and communication when provided with scaffolding support. Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) are found to be more effective when aligned with students’ individual cognitive styles. Furthermore, evaluation of logic-based educational programs and internal quality assurance systems is necessary to ensure adaptive and sustainable learning. Overall, understanding students’ cognitive styles is crucial for educators in designing flexible, reflective, and learner-centered teaching strategies to optimize higher-order thinking skills in the 21st-century education era, So it can be concluded that cognitive style can significantly influence students' thinking processes regarding thinking strategies and mathematical representation. Abstract

This research aims to determine the impact of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach on the mathematics learning process on students' problem-solving abilities at various levels of education. This study is a literature review that collects and analyzes various studies related to the application of STEAM, which is often combined with project-based learning (PBL) and problem-based learning (PBL) models. The results of the study show that the implementation of STEAM consistently improves students' problem-solving skills significantly. Through STEAM, students are not only trained to solve problems mathematically, but also develop creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to collaborate and communicate in an interdisciplinary and authentic learning context. Digital learning media such as the Alef, Quizizz, and MONKABICO platforms, as well as STEAM-based digital worksheets, also support the effectiveness of learning. However, the study also found various limitations, such as limited sample coverage, short intervention time, variations in STEAM learning models, and uneven teacher and infrastructure readiness. It is recommended that future research focus on comparing the most effective STEAM learning models, developing comprehensive problem-solving measurement instruments, and conducting long-term research that considers the local context and student inclusivity. In conclusion, STEAM is a relevant and effective learning approach to improve students' problem-solving skills in mathematics, while preparing them for the 21st-century skills that are urgently needed in the era of globalization and the digitalization of education in the future.   Keywords: Mathematics, Problem Solving Skill, STEAM.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of vermicompost and Trichoderma on the growth and yield of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). The experiment was arranged in a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor was vermicompost dose consisting of three levels: V1 (0.25 kg/polybag), V2 (0.50 kg/polybag), and V3 (0.75 kg/polybag). The second factor was Trichoderma dose with three levels: T1 (150 ml/polybag), T2 (200 ml/polybag), and T3 (250 ml/polybag). The results showed that vermicompost significantly affected the number of leaves, number of fruits, and fruit weight. The V1 treatment (0.25 kg/polybag) produced the best vegetative and generative growth. A significant interaction between vermicompost and Trichoderma was observed, where the V1T2 combination resulted in the highest fruit weight (956.67 g). These results indicate that the interaction between vermicompost and Trichoderma improves cucumber growth and yield, and the V1T2 combination is the most effective treatment.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools generally remains abstract and disconnected from students’ real- life experiences, which contributes to low engagement and conceptual understanding. In agricultural-based communities, farming activities hold significant potential as sources of mathematical learning through an ethnomathematical approach. This study aims to explore how agricultural ethnomathematics can be integrated into mathematics learning in elementary schools within a local context. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by examining 12 national and international scholarly articles indexed in Scopus to Sinta 3 from the past seven years. The analysis focused on research objectives, cultural contexts, mathematical concepts developed, and the instructional models applied. The results show that agricultural practices contain mathematical concepts relevant to measurement, geometry, fractions, and ratio topics. However, the implementation of agricultural ethnomathematics remains limited due to teachers’ low cultural- mathematical literacy and the lack of structured teaching materials. This study concludes that integrating agricultural ethnomathematics can improve students’ conceptual understanding and connect learning with their real-life experiences. Therefore, the development of contextual learning modules and instructional models based on local farming practices is recommended for further application.
