Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of learning concentration among third-grade elementary students, as identified through the initial results of the Grid Concentration Test, which showed that most students were categorized as "Low" to "Very Low." The purpose of this study was to develop a brain gymnastic video as a medium to enhance students’ learning concentration. The research involved 39 third-grade students and employed a development research method using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The development process included expert validation from subject matter experts, instructional design experts, and media experts, as well as individual and small group trials. Validation results indicated that the brain gym video met a very high standard of quality, with scores of 98.33% from both the subject matter and design experts, and 97.5% from the media expert. The effectiveness test, using a paired sample t-test, showed a statistically significant improvement in concentration (t-calculated = 28.303 > t-table = 2.026). These findings indicate that the brain gym video is effective in improving students' learning concentration. The implication of this study is that brain gym videos can serve as an innovative learning medium that effectively enhances students’ focus and attention in primary education settings.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic that has lasted for two years is a dynamic condition that has an impact on all dimensions of life, including educational field. Various changes that appear in learning activities at school can not be denied has become a stressful situation that requires students to adapt quickly. Several findings have shown that there is a decrease in students' psychological well-being during the pandemic. This condition emphasizes that students need to have good psychological resilience so they are able to face difficulties and misfortunes, and be adaptive due the changes. The development of student resilience can be done through guidance and counseling services. SMART-R is a strength-based counseling model that can be implemented by counselors (BK teachers) to develop student resilience. Through the implementation of SMART-R counseling, students can have a more adaptive response in dealing with pressures and changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and can develop more positive feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.

Abstract

Achievement motivation is an internal drive that drives individuals to achieve success in both academic and non-academic fields. In underachiever students, achievement motivation is very important because it activates untapped potential, encourages the development of learning skills, increases mental toughness, creates self-confidence, and independence. One of the effective counseling approaches in increasing achievement motivation in underachiever students is the behavioral counseling approach using self-management techniques. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of the behavioral counseling approach using self-management techniques to increase achievement motivation in underachiever students. The design of this study was to use a one group pretest-posttest design with a population of 430 seventh grade junior high school students. Sampling used random sampling techniques and random class as an intact group, so that class VII.4 was obtained as a research sample. To test empirical validity, it was analyzed using the product moment correlation formula, while to test instrument reliability, it was analyzed using the Cronbach Alpha formula. Statistical tests used the T-test test to determine the effectiveness of the treatment that had been carried out. H0 is rejected if t count > t table. H0 is accepted if t count ≤ t table. Based on the H1 t-test, the calculated t was 11.131 while the t-table with db N-1 = 40 – 1 = 39 and a significance level of 5% (0.05) was 1.684, so it can be concluded that the behavioristic counseling approach with self-management techniques is effective in increasing achievement motivation in underachiever students.

Abstract

Abstract

Vocational students have a greater capacity to overcome academic adversity, and the role of academic resilience is essential to positive academic outcomes and future careers. Exploring the academic resilience of vocational school students requires valid and reliable measurement tools. This study aims to develop a measurement tool for academic resilience in Indonesian vocational school contexts and its evidence validation. This study involved 206 students from various vocational fields in several public vocational schools in Kupang City, Indonesia, with a multistage sampling technique. Twenty-item academic resilience measurement tools were utilized. Validate of the construct was assessed with exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Alpha Cronbach for reliability. The results demonstrated by both the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test and Bartlett’s test confirm adequate data. EFA highlights the single-factor model. A total of twelve items were removed, and eight items were qualified, with the highest loading factor score of 0.816 and the lowest score of 0.547. The reliability confirms the high category (0.96). The whole procedure resulted in a measurement tool of eight items to assess academic resilience and contributed to evaluating the efficacy and treatment in Indonesian vocational schools.

Abstract

Science education in elementary schools is still partial and dominated by the use of textbooks, with teachers as the center of learning activities. The absence of teaching materials that support active student participation causes the learning process to be less meaningful. This study aims to develop and test the feasibility of a Problem Based Learning (PBL) module for science education for fourth grade elementary school students. This study uses a research and development method with the ADDIE model. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, while data analysis used a descriptive qualitative and quantitative approach. The validation results showed that the module was rated very good by subject matter experts (95%), learning design experts (95.45%), and media experts (98.3%). The teacher response test scored very good (100%), the individual trial (97.8%), and the small group trial (94.98%). These findings indicate that the module is highly valid and practical for use in learning. The uniqueness of this module lies in the integration of science and social studies material arranged contextually, for example, by linking the topic of Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms with the practice of planting crops by the ancient Javanese people. This study implies that the development of holistic and problem-based teaching materials can improve conceptual understanding and student engagement in IPAS learning.

Abstract

College students face various challenges, making the emphasis on life satisfaction increasingly important. To promote life satisfaction in higher education specifically in Indonesia, highlighting a valid and reliable measurement tool is necessary. The multidimensional life-satisfaction scale (MLSS) has been widely used, but its psychometric properties require evaluation for application among college students in Indonesia. Hence, this study investigates the psychometric properties of the MLSS, involving 651 Indonesian college students who completed an online survey. Data were collected using the original 40-item Indonesian version of the MLSS and factor analysis was conducted to assess construct, convergent, and discriminant validity. Internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) establishes a five-factor solution and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirms the second model with fourteen items met the goodness-of-fit. The five constructs (family, friends, campus, environment, and self) indicate well enough score both on average variance extracted (AVE) (range from .50 to .64) and composite reliability (range from .66 to 80). Internal consistency was acceptable, and correlations between constructs were significant. All items demonstrated sufficient factor loading. The short-form self-report model of the MLSS was found to be valid and reliable for use with college students in Indonesia.

Abstract

The background of this study highlights the low levels of self-disclosure and psychological well-being among students, which negatively impact emotional development, social relationships, and academic achievement. This research aims to examine the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral counseling services using cognitive restructuring techniques in improving students’ self-disclosure and psychological well-being. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving 60 students selected purposively based on pretest results and divided into experimental and control groups. The instruments used were validated and reliable self-disclosure and psychological well-being questionnaires. Data were analyzed using MANOVA after meeting the assumptions of normality, homogeneity, and multicollinearity. The findings revealed significant improvements in both variables in the experimental group compared to the control group. Cognitive restructuring techniques proved effective in helping students replace negative thinking patterns with more adaptive ones, thereby fostering self-disclosure and enhancing psychological well-being. These findings underscore the importance of integrating cognitive-behavioral techniques into school counseling programs to promote emotionally and socially healthy individuals.
