Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the inability of the body's cells to respond to insulin or so-called insulin resistance which causes hyperglycemia. The body's immune system is a complex system that functions to protect the body from various diseases and infections. This research was conducted with the aim of applying bibliometric methods using quantitative analysis to trace the development of research related to type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. This study uses a biblometric analysis method that can help researchers in studying the content of bibliography, citation analysis of each article taken from the lens database. The results of data with the keywords DM type 2, immune, and complication are not too much, only about 475 data were obtained, and after being identified and cleaned using vosviewer, data was obtained in the form of several clusters such as images.

Abstract

Pesticide wastewater is water containing dissolved or dispersed pesticide residues that can threaten environmental health. This study aims to assess the impact of pesticide wastewater on environmental health. The method employed was a literature review of the Scopus database using the keywords “pesticide AND wastewater AND health.” Data were analyzed with VOSviewer to map the interrelationships among keywords. The results revealed three maps with four color clusters highlighting the keywords “pesticide,” “wastewater,” and “health.” In conclusion, bibliometric analysis is effective for identifying research themes and guiding future studies. The implications of these findings are that bibliometric analysis can enhance understanding of research trends on pesticide wastewater and foster the development of more in‑depth studies and more effective pesticide wastewater management strategies.

Abstract

The growing demand for natural food colorants, driven by consumer awareness of the health risks associated with synthetic additives, has increased the exploration of plant-based pigments. Betacyanin, a red-violet pigment in the betalain group, has drawn attention for its color stability and antioxidant properties. This study aimed to analyze the betacyanin content in the peel of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) from two cultivation areas in West Sumatra (Tanah Datar and Bukittinggi) as a potential natural food colorant. The dragon fruit peels were dried, ground into powder, and extracted using 10% citric acid solution. The extract was concentrated and analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Results showed a significant difference in betacyanin levels between the two sources: Tanah Datar samples had an average of 28.48±0.19 mg/100g, while Bukittinggi samples had 3.52±0.07 mg/100g. These findings suggest that geographical and environmental factors significantly affect pigment accumulation. It is recommended that Tanah Datar dragon fruit peel be further developed as a natural colorant due to its high betacyanin content, supporting sustainable practices and waste reduction in food processing.

Abstract

This research aims to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of scientific publications on the potential of beetroot (Beta vulgaris) for diabetes patients. A quantitative method was employed by systematically collecting data from the Scopus database covering the period 2014-2023, using the specific keywords "Beta Vulgaris Or Beetroot and Diabetes or Blood and Sugar or Insulin". From the initial 153 indexed documents retrieved, 113 relevant articles were selected and subjected to detailed analysis. VOS Viewer software was utilized to generate network, overlay, and density visualizations, enabling exploration of complex relationships between publications, keywords, and research trends. The results reveal that publications can be categorized into two distinct clusters, with the most frequently occurring keywords being insulin, beetroot, metabolism, and Beta vulgaris. The year 2021 was identified as the peak period for research on beetroot's potential for diabetes management, indicating growing scientific interest in this area. This bibliometric analysis provides a valuable foundation for further development of evidence-based studies on the benefits of beetroot in diabetes management and opens avenues for innovative therapeutic approaches using this natural resource.

Abstract

Solanum torvum or takokak is one of the indigenous medicinal plants in Indonesia. Solanum torvum is part of the Solanaceae family or eggplant tribe. This plant contains carotenoids which have benefits for eye health. This study aims to analyze the scope of research on Solanum torvum on eye health. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method that refers to the literature (literature review) with the Scopus website. The data used for this study are articles in the 2015-2023 time span, totaling 263 articles. Data collection uses the keyword TITLE-ABS-KEY (solanum OR solanaceae OR eggplant AND eye OR vision). The application used for analysis is VOSviewer. The analysis used is co-occurance keyword analysis. In the network visualization, the most article publications in 2023 were 45 article publications. In the overlay visualization there is a large circle with cluster 1 there are keywords, adult, female, aged, and eye disease. In the density visualization there is the brightest color with the keywords female, adult, male, and human.

Abstract

Anemia is a global health problem affecting approximately 1.62 billion people, mainly in developing countries. Although iron supplementation is the main strategy, the use of biological agents as an alternative to traditional medicine has potential that has not been fully explored. This study aims to map the research landscape of biological agents as anti-anemia using bibliometric analysis. The study used a library research method by analyzing metadata from Scopus indexed articles for the period 2000-2024 using keywords related to anemia and traditional medicine. Data were analyzed using VOSViewer software to visualize the network and relationships between article citations. The analysis showed 208 relevant documents, with a significant increase in publications after 2010. China dominated with 55 publications, followed by India with 40 publications. The VOSViewer visualization identified three main clusters grouping different plant species, with some plants such as Curcuma longa, Aloe vera, and Hibiscus sabdariffa frequently associated with the treatment of anemia. The analysis also revealed many unexplored areas of research, especially in plant species that have not been commonly studied. This study concludes that of the more than 200 plant species with anti-anemia potential, many have not been comprehensively studied, opening up opportunities for further research especially in countries with high biodiversity such as Indonesia.

Abstract

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes continues to increase along with the consumption pattern of high glycemic index foods, such as white rice, which triggers a spike in blood glucose. Alternatives such as brown and black rice with a lower glycemic index and high fiber, resistant starch, and antioxidant content are considered better in controlling blood sugar. This study analyzes research trends related to glycemic index, rice types, and diabetes using the VOSviewer-based bibliometric method from Scopus data from 2017–2021. The results show an increase in research on this topic with four main clusters: risks of white rice, metabolic syndrome, benefits of brown and black rice, and nutritional approaches in diabetes prevention. This study confirms the potential of brown and black rice as alternative strategies for diabetes management and opens up opportunities for further research in this field.
