Abstract

Stunting is a growth and development disorder in children caused by chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections, and is characterized by height or height below normal. The short-term impact of stunting can be reduced learning ability due to lack of cognitive development. Stunting is a nutritional problem caused by multifactors, namely social factors, biological factors and environmental factors. Environmental conditions such as poor water and sanitation are indirect factors that cause stunting in children. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence stunting in toddlers. The research design used was the literature review method. A total of 20 articles from the Google Scholar database were reviewed in this research with criteria published in 2019-2023. This study was prepared using a narrative method. Articles were grouped with similar results to answer research questions. This study found that theoretically, sanitation and water quality have an influence on the occurrence of stunting events. Conclusion: In overcoming stunting, environmental factors must be considered to improve the quality of drinking water so that it meets health standards and is suitable and safe for consumption. It is recommended to maintain good sanitation to prevent the emergence of disease outbreaks which increase the number of illnesses and deaths.

Abstract

The improper or inefficient treatment of domestic wastewater can contaminate receiving water bodies, particularly when the wastewater contains hazardous chemicals that are difficult to decompose. In the Pantai Cermin District, 70% of wastewater drainage systems (SPAL) fail to meet sanitation standards. This study aims to describe community behaviors related to the condition of domestic SPAL in Pantai Cermin District in 2024. A descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach was employed, conducted from January to June 2024. The study involved 100 households or housewives selected using stratified random sampling. The findings reveal that substandard physical conditions of SPAL were most prevalent among groups with low knowledge levels (72%), negative attitudes (69%), and poor perceptions (71%). Conclusion: The analysis indicates a significant relationship between knowledge level, attitude, perception, and the guidance provided by officers with the physical condition of domestic SPAL. Recommendations include enhancing educational programs, raising awareness, fostering community participation, and providing recognition to community groups committed to SPAL management at the local level.

Abstract

The sanitation and environmental health conditions in coastal settlements, such as Kampung Aquarium in North Jakarta, have become a crucial issue in urban area management. This study aims to analyze the sanitation conditions and their impact on public health in the area. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through field observations, interviews, and documentation. Thematic analysis was employed to identify patterns and relationships among various sanitation aspects. The findings indicate that limited access to clean water, poor waste management systems, and a lack of environmental awareness are the primary factors contributing to sanitation problems. Conclusion: Limited sanitation, lack of access to clean water, and insufficient community awareness are the main health challenges in Kampung Aquarium. It is recommended that sanitation infrastructure be improved, community education programs be implemented, and a stronger collaboration between the government and the community be fostered to create a healthy environment.

Abstract

Drinking water is water that meets health standards and can be consumed directly. The demand for drinking water is increasing, but the challenge of water pollution is reducing the availability of clean water sources. Refill water depots have become an alternative, but their quality needs to be maintained to ensure public safety. The aim of this study is to analyze the microbiological quality of refill drinking water in Padang City. This research used a descriptive cross-sectional method with the CFU method for analyzing Total Coliform and E. coli. The results show that the majority of refill drinking water in Padang City does not meet the quality standards (0 CFU/100 ml). Out of 12 depots tested, 41.67 % depots significantly exceeded the standards, with Total Coliform reaching and E. coli > 0 CFU/100 ml. The conclusion of this study is that most refill drinking water depots in Padang City do not meet quality standards and contain E. coli and Total Coliform. It is recommended that refill water depots improve cleanliness, sanitation, equipment maintenance, and conduct routine testing to ensure water quality meets the standards. The government should strengthen monitoring and conduct periodic evaluations.

Abstract

The sanitation conditions in schools across Indonesia vary significantly, with many schools, especially in remote areas, lacking proper sanitation facilities such as clean water, adequate toilets, and hygiene programs. This has a direct impact on students' health, contributing to issues such as diarrhea, dehydration, and malnutrition. Good sanitation is essential as it contributes to students' health and creates a more conducive learning environment. The Adiwiyata School Program, which integrates environmental education and sustainability, plays a crucial role in improving school sanitation by enhancing facilities and changing students' behavior towards cleanliness. This study aims to explore the impact of the Adiwiyata School Program on sanitation in Indonesian schools through a literature review approach. The method used is a literature review to collect data from various sources such as journals, books, and relevant online articles. The findings suggest that the Adiwiyata Program has successfully improved sanitation, particularly in areas like canteen cleanliness, waste management, and the implementation of handwashing practices, although challenges related to budget and awareness still exist. It is recommended that further research be conducted to examine the direct impact of the Adiwiyata Program and the need for increased awareness and budget support to strengthen the program’s effectiveness.

Abstract

Household waste management is a significant environmental challenge, especially in urban areas with rapid population growth. If not handled properly, organic waste can cause various problems, such as environmental pollution, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and the buildup of loads in landfills. This article aims to describe the implementation of biopores to reduce household organic waste. The method used is qualitative and literature review. A total of 10 articles from the Garuda database were analyzed in this study with the criteria published in 2017-2023, using the keywords “biopori, household organic waste”. The results of this study show that organic waste in biopore holes undergoes a natural decomposition process through the help of microorganisms in the soil so that it has a positive impact that can reduce household waste, namely the formation of compost, and fertilize the soil.conclusion : The implementation of biopores effectively reduces household organic waste through decomposition and compost formation. Recommendations The implementation of biopores should be expanded to reduce organic waste and sustainably improve soil fertility.
