Abstract

Background: Long – term usage of depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) may suppress estrogen levels causing the body to undergo hypoestrogenic. The hormone estrogen affects the metabolism of calcium and 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D in the body. Calcium and 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D are bone-forming vitamin and minerals.Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D and calcium on the accelerate of DMPA based on long usage.Method: This is an observational study with cross-sectional design. A total of 70 acceporates sample was chosen by consecutive sampling and divided into 2 groups. 35 acceporates received DMPA for 1-2 years (group 1) and 35 acceporates received DMPA for 2-4 years (group 2). Serum 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D levels examined by enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay (ELISA) method and serum calcium was quantified using the Calcium Arsenazo method. The research was conducted in Puskesmas Andalas and Lubuk Buaya Kota Padang between July 2017 and September 2017. The data normality was checked using Kolmogorov Smirnov and then the data were analyzed using the Spearman test.Results: The average of 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D in group 1 is 351.16 pg/ml and in group 2 is 289.84 pg/ml. The median concentration of calcium on samples in group 1 is 9.30 mg/dl and in Group 2 is 9.13 mg/dl.Conclusion: There were negative significant correlations between 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D and calcium in group 1 and group 2.

Abstract

Introduction: Caries is a multifactorial disease that is influenced by saliva and teeth as the host, microorganism, substrate, and time. Children with stunting experiencing saliva gland atrophy which decrease saliva flow, buffer function, immunity component, and its antimicrobial activity which increase the risk of caries. The research was done on children aged 6-12 years old in Puskesmas Andalas, Padang, aims to find out the relationship between the number of bacteria and DMF-T index based on stunting cases. Methods: The research method was observational with the cross-sectional study. Salivary sampling was selected by stratified random sampling for 30 stunting kids and 30 normal ones. Result: The result showed that based on the research, the amount of Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175 bacteria is higher in children with stunting than the normal ones, but not significant statistically; p=0,659 (p>0,05). DMF-T index is higher in children with stunting than in normal ones. Statistical test analysis resulted in p= 0,004 (p<0,005), which shows the relationship between DMF-T and stunting. Conclusion: This research showed that there is no relationship between the number of Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175 with DMF-T index based on stunting cases.

Abstract

Background, prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia is 34.11%. One of the factors that influence the incidence of hypertension is high levels of the cholesterol in the blood. Objective, to determine the description total cholesterol levels and the incidence of hypertension Methods, thisesearch was a descriptive study with 29 respondents taken using total sampling techniques from secondary data. Results, cholesterol levels were dominated by hyper cholesterolemia (69%), blood pressure was dominated by hypertension (55.2%). the majority are aged> 40 years. hypercholesterolemia sufferers are more frequent in women (76.5%) hypertension sufferers in men (75%). patients with hypercholesterolemia are more often with secondary education (86.7%), patients with hypertension more often with low education (80%). People with hypercholesterolemia tend to have hypertension (37.9%). Conclusion, total cholesterol level dominated by respondents with hyper cholesterolemia, the majority are aged> 40 years, female sex, and have secondary education. The incidence of hypertension is high, with majority sufferers aged> 40 years, male sex and low education.

Abstract

Pertumbuhan dan panjang badan bayi dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor, salah satunya zink yang merupakan zat gizi mikronutrien yang berperan dalam pertumbuhan bayi. Zink berperan penting dalam proses enzimatik, ekspresi gen dan stabilisasi sel. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan kadar zink dalam ASI pada riwayat ASI ekslusif dengan panjang badan anak usia 12 sampai 15 bulan diwilayah kerja puskesmas Pauh  Kota Padang. Penelitian ini telah dilakukan diwilayah kerja Puskesmas Pauh Kota Padang dari bulan Juni sampai Oktober 2020. Desain Penelitian “Cross Sectional” dengan jumlah sampel 30 orang dengan riwayat ASI Ekslusif.Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan Simpel Random Sampling. Data dianalisa secara univariat dan bivariat dengan menggunakan uji Korelasi Spearman. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa rata-rata kadar zink dalam ASI pada ibu anak usia 12 bulan adalah  0,48 mg/L ± 0,234 ,anak usia 15 bulan sebesar 0,52 mg/L ± 0,228. Rata-rata panjang badan anak usia 12 bulan adalah 72,47 ± 1,88 dan rata-rata panjang badan usia 15 bulan adalah 75,13 ± 1,71. analisa bivariat didapatkan korelasi lemah antara kadar zink dalam ASI dengan panjang badan anak usia 12 bulan sampai 15 bulan (p>0,05). Disimpulkan bahwa tidak ditemukan korelasi antara kadar zink dalam ASI dengan riwayat ASI ekslusif dengan panjang badan anak usia 12 sampai 15 bulan.Kata kunci: kadar zink; panjang badan anak

Abstract

Introduction: The coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic has been a major problem in every country worldwide. Cases of  COVID-19 in children are usually caused by exposure to infected family members or other adults infected with the disease. Clinical manifestations in children vary widely from symptomatic to asymptomatic. This study aims to determine the relationship between cycle threshold (Ct) value with Angiotensin Converting Enzyme-2 (ACE-2) Method: This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional design. The purpose is to analyze the relationship between Ct value with ACE-2, IL-6, IL-10 level in asymptomatic COVID-19 pediatric patients. Ct value measured using RT-PCR and ACE 2,  Il-6 and IL-10 were measured using ELISA examinations. Result: Mean of ACE-2 is 132,66 ± 38,19 pg/mL (21,63 – 171,63 pg/m). Conclusion: The majority of Ct value in asymptomatic pediatric COVID-19 patients were high (85,7%). Statistically, there was no significant correlation between Ct value with ACE-2, IL-6 and IL-10 in COVID-19 asymptomatic children. Keyword: Angiotensin Converting Enzyme-2, Covid-19 Asymptomatic Children

Abstract

Abstract: Nutrition affects the immune system and the development of oral health, including periodontal tissue health. Stunted children experience decreased salivary flow rate causing the growth of microorganisms that cause periodontal disease. Porphyromonas gingivalis is referred to one of the keystone pathogens in the development of periodontal disease. This study aimed to identify the number of Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 bacteria in stunted child saliva. This was a descriptive study with a cross sectional design. Prior to collection, subjects were instructed to rinse their mouth for 30 seconds using distilled water, saliva was collected with draining method, then 2 mL of saliva was taken, and DNA was isolated from Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277. DNA amplification and DNA calculation of Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 were performed by using Real-time PCR. The results obtained 23 stunted children age 6-12 years as subjects. The average number of Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 bacteria in stunting child saliva was 230.8 x 106 ± 320.1 x 106 CFU/ml. In conclusion, the number of Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 is higher in stunted children saliva than in normal child saliva. Keywords: stunted children; Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 bacteria; periodontal diseases   Abstrak: Gizi memengaruhi sistem pertahanan dan perkembangan kesehatan rongga mulut termasuk kesehatan jaringan periodontal. Anak stunting mengalami penurunan laju alir saliva yang menyebabkan pertumbuhan mikroorganisme penyebab penyakit periodontal, antara lain Porphyromonas gingivalis sebagai salah satu keystone pathogens dalam perkembangan penyakit periodontal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan jumlah bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 pada saliva anak stunting. Jenis penelitian ialah deskriptif dengan desain potong lintang. Sebelum pengambilan saliva, subjek diinstruksikan berkumur selama 30 detik menggunakan akuades. Pengambilan saliva dengan metode draining selama 10 menit, saliva terkumpul sebanyak 2 mL, dan dilakukan isolasi DNA bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277. Amplifikasi DNA dan perhitungan jumlah DNA bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 dilakukan menggunakan Real-time PCR. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan 23 anak stunting dengan usia 6-12 tahun.  Rerata jumlah bakteri Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 pada saliva anak stunting 230,8x106±320,1x106 CFU/ml yang lebih tinggi daripada anak sehat yaitu 180,8x106±201,8x106 CFU/mL Simpulan penelitian ini ialah rerata jumlah bakteri Porphyromonas  gingivalis ATCC 33277 pada saliva anak stunting lebih tinggi daripada saliva anak  normal. Abstract

Pendahuluan: Karsinoma nasofaring (KNF) merupakan tumor ganas yang berasal dari sel epitel nasofaring dengan pola epidemiologi yang unik. Etiologi keganasan ini merupakan interaksi kompleks antara faktor genetik, infeksi laten virus Epstein-Barr (VEB) dan paparan terhadap karsinogen lingkungan. Secara genetik, terdapat gen human leucocyte antigen (HLA) yang berperan pada patogenesis KNF. Gen ini dikelompokkan menjadi kelas I dan kelas II yang bersifat sangat polimorfik. Kerentanan genetik terhadap KNF pada populasi dengan risiko tinggi berhubungan dengan gen HLA kelas I. Beberapa penelitian menyatakan bahwa alel HLA-A*02 berhubungan dengan kejadian KNF. Tujuan: Mengetahui perbedaan alel HLA-A*02 antara pasien KNF dengan kontrol pada etnik Minangkabau. Metode: Penelitian analitik dengan menggunakan disain potong lintang dilakukan terhadap 16 pasien KNF etnik Minangkabau dan 16 orang sehat etnik Minangkabau sebagai kontrol. Pemeriksaan molekuler dilakukan pada responden untuk melihat ekspresi HLA-A*02 dengan metode polymerase chain reaction-sequence spesific primer(PCR-SSP). Data dianalisis secara statistik dengan program komputer dan dinyatakan bermakna jika p < 0,05. Hasil: Pada penelitian ini didapatkan 6 orang pasien KNF dan 3 orang kontrol dengan HLA-A*02 positif. Secara statistik tidak didapatkan perbedaan yang bermakna alel HLA-A*02 antara pasien KNF dengan kontrol pada etnik Minangkabau. Kesimpulan: Tidak terdapat perbedaan alel HLA-A*02 antara pasien KNF dengan kontrol etnik Minangkabau.

Abstract

Indonesia's population consists of 633 ethnic groups that have different characters. The Minangkabau have a longer head, nose and chin height than the other two tribes. In addition, septal deviation is defined as the shape of the septum that is not straight in the middle so that it forms a bend in one of the nasal cavities or both nasal cavities resulting in narrowing of the nasal cavity. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between nose length in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University, Minangkabau ethnicity and the type of nasal septal deviation. This study is a descriptive analytic study using 30 patients. The examinations were Nasoendoscopy and Facial Analysis. Data analysis used statistical test, namely Pearson Chi Square test. Results obtained are the mixed deviation type mean with longer nose length, shorter nose length, and normal nose length; then the type of vertical deviation with longer nose length, shorter nose length and normal nose length respectively were 55.6, 100, 27.3; 44.4, 0 and 68.2 (%). It was found that there was no relationship between nose length in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University, Minangkabau ethnicity and the type of nasal septal deviation with p value = 0.188 (p > 0.05). Conclusion obtained is that there is no relationship between nose length in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University, Minangkabau ethnicity and the type of nasal septal deviation.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is the most common endocrine disease globally. Hyperglycemia in diabetes mellitus is known to trigger oxidative stress. The activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) is decreased in diabetic conditions. Catalase activity acts as a defense system to prevent the formation of free radicals (oxidants) in the human body. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of olive oil antioxidants on catalase activity and GSH-Px levels in hyperglycemic rats. Methods: Adult male Wistar rats were randomized into three groups (n: 8): untreated control (Control), alloxan-induced untreated (Alloxan), and alloxan-induced treatment (Treatment) of olive oil at 25 mL/day for 14 days. Catalase activities were measured using the spectrophotometry method, and GSH-Px levels were analyzed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: Administration of olive oil increased catalase activity compared to the untreated group in alloxan-induced rats. The average level of glutathione peroxidase was higher in the treatment group than in alloxan-induced rats. Conclusion: Antioxidants in olive oil increased catalase activity and glutathione peroxidase levels in alloxan-induced hyperglycemic rats.

Abstract

Introduction: Rinolits are uncommon foreign bodies in the nose, which serve as a nidus for calcium salt deposition. Foreign bodies can be endogenous or exogenous in origin and can be asymptomatic for years before being discovered incidentally. If left untreated, stones can cause unilateral nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, epistaxis, or in rare cases, progressive damage leading to septal/palatal perforation or oro-antral fistula. Surgical stone removal is an effective intervention with rare reports of complications. Case Report: A case of rinolit in a 72-year-old woman with complaints of left nasal congestion since 2 months ago with thick, smelly snot in the past 2 weeks is reported. History of foreign entry was denied. On examination of the sinistra nasal cavity, it was found that the nasal cavity was narrow, the inferior concha was edematous, there was a yellowish mass between the inferior concha and the septum, the media concha was difficult to assess, septal deviation was present, sekret was present, mucoid. The management given was extraction using forceps under local anesthesia. Conclusion: Rinolit is an uncommon clinical etiology which if undiagnosed can lead to complications; thus it is important to consider for any unilateral nasal symptoms of unclear origin.
