Abstract

The lack of research on community radio is one of the obstacles to gaining an in-depth understanding of the relevant development and dynamics. Collaborative research is believed to be the alternative solution as a wider research range increases interest in the study. Further, increased interest can generate a greater contribution to community radio. Using Bibliometrics, this study analyzed the development trend of co-authorship-based community radio research from 1999 to March 2024. It found several significant findings. Firstly, there are indications that the topic of community radio is of less interest in scientific literature due to the limited number of publications, only 75 articles. Secondly, there is a drastic downward trend in the number of publications on community radio over some time, from 2017 to 2024. Thirdly, from the analysis of researcher networks (co-authorship), there is no overall centralized pattern of researcher relationships. While there are some partial relationships among researchers, there must be a consistent or centralized pattern in the community radio research network. Research on community radio requires methodological renewal by investigating new and innovative approaches and collaborations that allow for the expansion of research networks.

Abstract

Background: Brand loyalty may be more fluid in the digital era. Consumers can easily switch to another brand if they find a product with better reviews or a more attractive offer. Brand loyalty can be built or maintained through online brand communities with a social capital approach. Purpose: The study aimed to describe brand loyalty building through communities. Methods: It used a descriptive qualitative approach to gain deeper insights. Data were collected from relevant academic journals, scientific magazines, previous research results, books, industry magazines, and various newspapers. The data analysis consisted of three streams of activities: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification to ensure accuracy.  Results: The study results illustrated that brand loyalty can be effectively built, maintained, and improved through well-established brand communities that meet the essential elements of shared language, shared vision, reciprocity, and social trust, fostering deeper connections among members. Conclusion: A credible brand community will encourage consumers and potential consumers to constantly build and improve long-term relationships to interact so that the brand community can transfer brand knowledge to them. Implications: A credible brand community can be built after fulfilling the elements of shared language, shared vision, reciprocity, and social trust – critical factors in increasing brand loyalty behavior.

Abstract

Public rejection and hesitation towards vaccination continue to increase. Based on data from the West Java Provincial Health Office, various obstacles hinder vaccination coverage in the region. This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that influence people's risk perception and risk tolerance in making decisions related to vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in Bandung City, the largest city in West Java. This research uses a qualitative method with a constructivist paradigm and a case study approach. The research subjects consisted of 12 Bandung residents who refused or hesitated to vaccinate and were selected through a purposive sampling technique. Primary data was obtained through in-depth interviews, while secondary data was collected from documentation studies, literature, and other supporting sources. The results showed that risk perception towards vaccination is influenced by several aspects, such as underestimating the danger of the virus and distrusting the government, lack of understanding about the virus and vaccines, belief in the haram status of vaccines and conspiracy theories, personal experiences related to negative impacts on loved ones or livelihoods, and concerns about side effects and vaccine effectiveness. Meanwhile, risk tolerance is influenced by subjective and socioeconomic aspects. These factors play a major role in the lack of changes in health behavior in the future, especially in decisions related to vaccination.

Abstract

Jatigede Waste Management: Community Service through Talk Show on Trimekar Radio Abstract Sumedang Regency, particularly Wado District, faces serious waste management issues in the Jatigede Reservoir tourism area. Data from databoks.com (2023) shows that Indonesia’s waste composition is dominated by food waste (41.4%), followed by plastic waste (18.6%), along with other types such as paper, metal, and glass. In Wado District, the increasing number of tourists correlates with rising waste volumes, while waste management infrastructure remains inadequate. This situation affects environmental aesthetics and threatens the region’s tourism appeal. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach through a Community Service Program (PKM) conducted by the Fikom Unpad team. The program was carried out in the form of an interactive talk show on Trimekar Radio, aiming to raise public awareness about waste management. Data was collected through field observations, interviews with stakeholders, and engagement with radio listeners via a two-way communication platform. Thematic analysis was used to identify and categorize key patterns in community perceptions and participation regarding waste issues. The results indicate that government efforts in waste management in Wado District remain suboptimal, while public awareness of environmental cleanliness is still low. Feedback from radio listeners revealed that 80% of participants understood the importance of waste management after attending the talk show, and 70% felt more motivated to participate in environmental programs. In conclusion, radio-based talk shows are effective as educational and advocacy tools, particularly in areas with limited access to digital information. Sustainable waste management solutions require continued collaboration between the government, communities, and local media.

Abstract

Sayang Heulang Beach, a tourism destination on the southern coast of Garut Regency, holds a significant intangible cultural heritage encompassing the local wisdom of Mancagahar Village, Pameungpeuk Sub-District, and Garut in general. This research explored communication and promotional strategies for the development of Sayang Heulang Beach, using a qualitative approach based on its local wisdom. By conducting interviews with seven informants and validity data using the triangulation technique with Focus Group Discussion (FGD), the study revealed that the destination fulfilled the requirements of nature-based tourism, offering authenticity, uniqueness, locality, and an immersive cultural experience among the community. However, there were areas for improvement. The local wisdom from cultural, historical, and mythical perspectives was still in the exploration process, and budget limitations resulted in the absence of thorough target market identification. Moreover, communication messages and promotions did not address tourists' fundamental needs regarding functionality, symbolism, and memorable experiences.

Abstract

Suara Waditra Community Radio is a community radio based in Sukasetia Village, Cisayong District, Tasikmalaya Regency. This radio has a broadcasting permit from the Minister of Communication and Information in 2018. Suara Waditra Community Radio is still continuing to broadcast both to convey information about the village and just for entertainment. The aim of this research is to find out the existence of Suara Waditra Community Radio in the community, especially in context knowledge sharing. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Research data was collected through interviews and observations. This research shows that Suara Waditra Community Radio faces significant problems related to a lack of human resources. Radio can only broadcast a limited number and quality of programs due to these conditions, often with a focus on entertainment programming rather than educational or awareness programming. The development and success of community radio is also hampered by the lack of community participation in supporting radio operations through funding and active involvement as a broadcasting institution. In addition, this research found that Suara Waditra Community Radio still has loyal listeners, especially among the elderly and those who have not fully used modern technology, despite competition from digital media. The Village Corner program shows how community radio can help empower communities and spread local information that is not reported by mainstream media.

Abstract

The Citarum watershed is a source of livelihood for communities in 13 cities and regencies in West Java and Jakarta. However, the Citarum River is considered one of the most polluted rivers in the world, prompting the central and local governments to implement conservation programs. For Tarumajaya Village, the conservation of the Citarum watershed starts from the Situ Cisanti area accompanied by the development of a tourism village to support the Citarum Harum Program. However, the existing participation is only seen from the government side, and there is no significant community participation in terms of communication and others directly in the process of developing this tourism village. Thus, this study aims to identify community involvement in the development of tourism villages to support the restoration of the Citarum watershed in the Upper Citarum Region. This qualitative study was conducted in Tarumajaya Village, Kertasari Sub-district, Bandung Regency. Primary data were obtained through non-participant observation and in-depth interviews, while secondary data were obtained from policy documents. Data analysis included data reduction, presentation, verification, and conclusion drawing. The research findings show that the development of creative tourism villages in Tarumajaya Village is carried out to support environmental preservation and has economic value for the welfare of the community, thus supporting public health. Tarumajaya Village community innovation products have economic value in tourism and show community involvement in supporting sustainable tourism development which is expected to improve public health.

Abstract

The digital transformation has significantly impacted all media sectors, including local government-managed radio. Amid the rapid development of technology and the declining popularity of analog radio, Local Public Broadcasting Institutions (LPPL) are required to innovate to remain relevant and reach broader audiences. This study aims to analyze the media convergence strategies adopted by Radio Kandaga, an LPPL owned by the Bandung Regency Government, to sustain its presence through digital platforms. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design conducted over two months (November–December 2024). Data collection techniques included direct observation, in-depth interviews with key informants, and document analysis. The findings indicate that Radio Kandaga implemented convergence strategies through web-based streaming, the use of social media, and the involvement of younger generations as digital content managers. These strategies began with audience behavior observation, followed by adaptive cross-platform programming, and concluded with user engagement-based evaluation. In conclusion, Radio Kandaga has successfully adopted a contextual and adaptive digital strategy that aligns with changing audience media consumption patterns while maintaining its local character as part of its public information service mission and efforts to strengthen transparent local governance.
