Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a video-based aerobic dance program in improving students' cardiorespiratory endurance and concentration. The background of this study is based on the need to develop a flexible and adaptive physical exercise model in the digital era, especially to overcome sedentary lifestyles and cognitive decline among students. The research design used was a quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 20 students participating in the video-based aerobic dance program for six weeks, three times a week. The instruments used included the Beep Test to measure VO₂ max capacity and the Grid Concentration test to measure concentration. The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in both variables, with a significant value in the paired sample t-test of 0.00 (p < 0.05). This study concludes that video-based aerobic dance is effective in improving cardiorespiratory endurance and concentration of students and can be used as an alternative, innovative, and adaptive exercise in higher education environments.

Abstract

This study intends to analyze the differences in cardiovascular endurance based on blood type and somatotype in college students. The study included 213 participants, consisting of 68 college students with blood type A, 68 with blood type B, 68 with blood type O, and 9 with blood type AB from the Faculty of Sport Science at Universitas Negeri Makassar. Cardiovascular endurance was assessed using the Multistage Fitness Test (MFT), blood type identification from the respondent's blood type card, and a somatotype assessment based on an anthropometric assessment. The investigation revealed that blood type O had stronger cardiovascular endurance than others, with a higher proportion of both satisfactory and fair categories. In contrast, blood type AB was associated with less endurance, with a large proportion in poor and destitute categories. Mesomorphs outperformed endomorphs and ectomorphs in terms of cardiovascular performance, which supports the theory that an individual's body type determines aerobic abilities. Furthermore, the chi-square test revealed a significant correlation between blood type and cardiovascular endurance (p < 0.05). This study considerably improves our understanding of how blood type and somatotype combinations affect athlete performance across various sports. This study recommends the integration of biometric and anthropometric data in athlete selection and development strategies to achieve optimal results.

Abstract

This study looks to find out how using social-emotional tools affects learning in physical education, sports, and health for students at elementary school, using a digital technology-based learning model. This study uses a quantitative approach with an experimental method. The research design used is a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design model. The research sample was 23 fifth-grade students at Public Elementary School Bawakaraeng I, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments consisted of a physical education outcome test, an observation sheet for the application of social-emotional learning, and a student response questionnaire. The data analysis technique used descriptive and inferential statistics in the form of a paired sample t-test with a significance level of 5%, which was preceded by an analysis prerequisite test. The results indicated that there was a significant effect of the application of social-emotional learning on physical education learning outcomes using a digital technology-based learning model. Our finding is evidenced by the t-observation value of 14.945, which is greater than the t-table value of 1.717 (14.945 > 1.717) with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Comparison of the average pretest and posttest values showed an increase from 86.39 to 92.96, with a difference of 6.565 points. The application of social-emotional learning with a digital technology-based learning model has proven effective in improving students' physical education learning outcomes.

Abstract

Background. Cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline, and mental health disorders are becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide, posing serious threats to public health and individual well-being. These conditions often stem from sedentary lifestyles, poor cardiovascular fitness, and lack of consistent physical activity. As such, identifying effective and accessible strategies for prevention and management is crucial. Objectives. This literature review aims to evaluate the impact of running and walking"”two of the most common and accessible forms of physical activity"”on cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and mental well-being. The goal is to determine the extent to which these activities contribute to the prevention and improvement of such health conditions. Methods. This study employed the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to analyze 70 selected peer-reviewed articles published between 2014 and 2024. Articles were retrieved from reputable academic databases including Google Scholar, Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science, and Crossref. The keywords used for selection included "cardiovascular health," "physical activity," "mental health," "cognitive," "running," and "walking." Results. Findings indicate that running is strongly associated with enhanced cardiovascular function, reduced risk of cognitive impairment, and improved mental health through increased blood circulation and brain activity. Walking, although lower in intensity, also showed significant benefits, particularly for older adults or individuals with limited physical capacity. Conclusion. Both running and walking are effective, non-pharmacological interventions for improving cardiovascular, cognitive, and mental health outcomes. While running provides more robust physiological benefits, walking remains a widely accessible and sustainable option for most populations.

Abstract

Oral and dental health is a reflection of a community's quality of life. However, the incidence of oral and dental diseases remains high. Therefore, the prevention of these diseases requires cross-sectoral collaboration by optimizing the role of health cadres. The objective of this community service program was to enhance cadres' knowledge of oral and dental health and their social support for early detection of oral and dental diseases. The implementation method involved a training program for 10 health cadres from Petaranga Village who are concerned with oral and dental health. The training utilized lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and practical sessions. Post-program evaluation results showed a significant increase in the health cadres' knowledge and skills regarding oral and dental health, as well as the social support they can provide to individuals with these diseases. Quantitatively, the average knowledge score increased from 70 to 90, which was statistically significant (p=0.000), proving the effectiveness of the primary service integration-based training program.
