Abstract

This study aims to compare the effect of aerobic dance accompanied by traditional and modern music on increasing the cardiovascular endurance of students. The research design used was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest group design. The sample consisted of 40 students of Makassar State University who were divided into two groups: an aerobic dance group with traditional South Sulawesi music and an exercise group with popular modern music. The exercise was carried out for six weeks, three times a week, for 45 minutes per session. Data were collected through a multistage test (beep test) to measure VO₂ max and analyzed using parametric statistical tests. The results showed that both groups experienced a significant increase in cardiovascular endurance (p < 0.05). However, a greater increase occurred in the traditional music group (Δ = 3.34) than in the modern music group (Δ = 2.39). These findings indicate that traditional music accompaniment is more effective in increasing cardiovascular endurance and providing added value in the context of preserving local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between aerobic dance intensity and blood pressure reduction in active elderly women who routinely participate in community exercise programs. The research design used is correlational with a quantitative approach. The sample consists of members of the aerobic dance community in Taman Pakui Sayang (TPS), Makassar, comprising 20 elderly women aged 45–59 years who participate in aerobic dance at least twice a week for 8 weeks. Data were collected through blood pressure measurements before and after the intervention, as well as monitoring exercise intensity using the Borg RPE (Rating of Perceived Exertion) Scale. The results of the analysis showed a significant negative correlation between aerobic dance intensity and a decrease in systolic with r = -0.62; p = 0.001 and diastolic (r = -0.55; p = 0.004) blood pressure. These findings indicate that the higher the intensity of the exercise performed, the greater the decrease in blood pressure that occurs. Thus, moderate to high intensity aerobic dance can be an effective non-pharmacological strategy in the management of hypertension in elderly women.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the risk level of exercise posture on musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) at the Faculty of Sports and Health Science , Makassar State University (UNM). Petanque requires athletes to perform repetitive movements and maintain certain body positions, especially when throwing, which can potentially cause musculoskeletal disorders. This study employs a descriptive observational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were obtained through direct observation of athletes' working posture during activities and analysed using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) method to assess the level of posture risk for musculoskeletal complaints. The results of the analysis showed that most athletes were in the low to moderate risk category, especially in the back, upper arm and wrist, caused by non-ergonomic body positions when throwing. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the posture of petanque athletes contributes to an increased risk of musculoskeletal disorders, thus requiring attention to the application of ergonomic principles and improvement of posture techniques in training to reduce the potential for musculoskeletal injuries.

Abstract

Blocking ability is one of the technical skills that greatly determines a team's success in volleyball. Blocking effectiveness is influenced by various physical components, including lower leg explosiveness and reaction speed. However, empirical studies examining the relationship between these two physical variables in high school volleyball extracurricular participants are still limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the relationship between lower leg explosiveness and reaction speed with blocking ability. This study used a quantitative correlational design with a population of 20 volleyball extracurricular participants at High School 8 Bulukumba using a total sampling technique. Lower leg explosiveness was measured using a vertical jump test, reaction speed using a visual reaction test, and blocking ability using a volleyball blocking skills test. Data was analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between lower leg explosiveness and reaction speed with blocking ability. The correlation coefficient (r) value of 0.770 indicates a strong relationship, with the simultaneous contribution of both variables amounting to 59.3% of the variation in blocking ability. Leg explosiveness has been shown to play a crucial role in producing an optimal vertical jump, while reaction speed determines the accuracy of timing and hand position when facing an attack. This study concludes that the synergy between explosive and responsive physical components is the primary foundation for technical success in modern volleyball dynamics at the high school level. Increasing explosive power and reaction speed is essential for optimizing blocking performance in high school volleyball extracurricular programs.
