Abstract

The activities of people caused the high rate of mangrove degradation in Percut Sei Tuan District Deli Serdang Regency. The activities were found such as marine aquaculture in ponds, new settlements, or the oil palm plantations. It will disturb the mangrove ecosystems and coastal ecosystems that are essential for the existence of migratory birds as well as wildlife habitat in water as spawning ground, nursery ground, and feeding ground areas. It also functions as a barrier for abrasion and seawater intrusion. This study seeked to analyze the extent of degradation in mangrove forests in Percut Sei Tuan District. There were two methods as well as direct and indirect. Direct analysis was intended to see degradation level of mangrove forest based on analysis in the field and then analyzed again the degradation rate, which refered to the Decree of the Minister of Environment of Indonesia, Number 201/2004 on the Criteria and Guidelines for Determining Damage of Mangrove Forests. The indirect method was to perform the analysis of degradation level of mangrove forests based on NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) using Landsat 8 satellite image. This research was expected to give figures of the current mangrove forest in Percut Sei Tuan District and the degradation level. The results showed that mangrove forest in Percut Sei Tuan District in damage category with 4.161% of crown closure and there was 168.7 ha in damage category based on NDVI value. Keywords : mangrove degradation level, NDVI, standard criteria, Percut Sei Tuan

Abstract

Rooting on the tree is a very important base in growth and development of trees. Not only provide mechanical reinforcement to maintain the structure a tree straight up, but also essential for the absorption of water and minerals. In plants, there are two types of rooting that is tap root on dicots plants and fiber roots in monocots plants. This research can provide information related to the behavior of plant roots on both dicots and monocotyledons and some comparisons root growth between year plant dicots with seasonal and year monocot plants and seasonal. This research was conducted in October 2015 through February 2016 by observe directly in the field. There are twenty species of plants accurate divided into 5 year dicots plants, 5 seasonal dicots plants, 5 year monocot plants and 5 monocot plants seasonal. The results showed the behavior of plant root, root characteristics and a comparison growth of year plant roots and seasonal Keyword : Root, Root Behavior, Monocot, Dicots

Abstract

Organic fertilizers such as compost is a natural fertilizer to add nutrients in the soil.Compost can be regarded as the product of fermentation of organic materials with a large number of microbes. The addition of activators or inoculum on the composting is part of an effort to accelerate the composting process. This research was done in November 2015 until January 2016 in experimental garden land USU campus in Padang Bulan, Medan. The experiment used a factorial randomized complete block design (RAK) factorial consisting of two factors. The first factor is the type of organic material consists of two levels the water hyacinth (Eichornia grassipes (Mart.) Solms.) smooth (A1) and the water hyacinth (Eichornia grassipes (Mart.) Solms.) rough (A2) and the second factor is the source of an organic activator which consists of four level without the type of activator (control) (B0), Mol fruit with vegetables (B1), Tape, tempe, with yakult (B2), and EM4 (B3). The parameters observed were comparison of temperature, pH and C/N ratio. The results of research showed that of water hyacinth (Eichornia grassipes (Mart.) Solms.) on some kind of local microorganisms (MOL) as fruit with vegetables (B1) MOL, Tape, tempe, with yakult (B2) MOL, and EM4 (B3) MOL, gives good the results of temperature, pH and C/N ratio of compost. Key words : Organic fertilizers, activators, the temperature  of  pH, the ratio of  C/N.

Abstract

The forest area in the DTA Lake Toba reduced to thousands of hectares, resulting in a lot of open land, the land's ability to absorb water is reduced and so the land becomes dry land productivity declined DTA Lake Toba. Breadfruit plants can increase the productivity of land and can be used as a plant reforestation to prevent erosion. Coconut Fiber is one of the media that has the physical properties of water can hold 6 to 8 times the weight of the dry, and can improve soil structure and texture, increase soil absorption of water, increase the activity of soil microorganisms and as a source of nutrients for plants. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of various sizes of coco to the growth of breadfruit. Coconut coir is used ranging in size from 100 grams to 1000 grams. This research was conducted in June-October 2015 in the DTA Lake Toba, District Silahisabungan, Dairi. Parameters measured were high seeds, seedlings diameter, canopy area, number of leaves and leaf water content. The results showed that administration of coco significant effect on the growth of high- fiber treatment kelpa 600 g ( K6 ) with an average value of 5.88 cm compared to the control treatment ( K0 ) with an average value of 4.13 cm . no real effect on the parameters of observation diameter , wide canopy , leaf number , and leaf water content on the growth of seedlingsKeywords: coco, breadfruit, growth, DTA Lake Toba
