Abstract

Abstract

The combination of phosphate-dissolving and nitrogen-fixing bacteria can increase plant productivity and nutrient availability as an environmentally friendly biofertilizer candidate. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of a combination of bacterial strains P1, P2, P3, N1, N2, and N3, on the growth of cayenne pepper, and to determine the best treatment of the combination of bacterial strains. The research was conducted from May to August 2023. The research was carried out by watering bacterial isolates on the cayenne pepper planting media. Observations were made for 2 months after transplanting. Data analysis used a completely randomised design with 9 treatment levels, namely, KP, KN, A (P1+P2+P3+N1); B (P1+P2+P3+N2); C (P1+P2+P3+N3); D (PI+P2+P3+N1+N2); E (P1+P2+P3+N1+N3); F (P1+P2+P3+N2+N3); G (P1+P2+P3+N1+N2+N3), with 4 replications. The results showed that the combination of phosphate-solubilising bacteria strains (P1, P2, P3) and nitrogen-fixing bacteria strains (N1, N2, N3) had a significant effect on the parameters of the number of leaves and leaf width of cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.). Treatment A (P1+P2+P3+N1) is a combination of bacterial strains that gives the best results on leaf width (5.20 cm) and number of leaves (47.75 strands). This biofertilizer enhances plant productivity and prevents environmental pollution.

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health problem. Although bacteriological cure can be achieved, many post-tuberculosis patients experience persistent residual symptoms and a decline in quality of life.  Objective: This study aimed to identify factors associated with quality of life among post-tuberculosis patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 54 post-tuberculosis patients in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Quality of life was assessed using the St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ). Bivariate and multivariate analyses (linear regression) were performed to identify factors associated with quality of life. Results: The median SGRQ score was 42.8 (IQR: 12.5–68.3). Fatigue was reported in 20.4% of participants. Multivariate analysis showed that fatigue was the dominant independent predictor (B=28.5, β=0.412, p=0.008), explaining 38.0% of the variance in SGRQ scores.. Conclusion: Fatigue is the dominant independent predictor of impaired quality of life in post-tuberculosis patients. Comprehensive care programs that include fatigue assessment and management are needed to improve the quality of life of TB survivors.

Abstract

Pregnant women are vulnerable to various mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and excessive stress. These conditions are often exacerbated by a lack of social support and negative stigma, which discourage pregnant women from seeking help. If left unaddressed, mental health problems can negatively impact both maternal and fetal health, including increased risks of pregnancy complications and developmental disorders in the fetus. To address these challenges, a digital-based program was developed to provide social support and enhance the mental health of pregnant women. This community service initiative also included mental health education and relaxation training to help maintain psychological well-being among pregnant women. The evaluation results showed significant improvements across all assessed aspects. The total score increased from 5.5 in the pretest to 8.0 in the posttest. Knowledge of mental health increased from 5.5 to 8.0, strategies for maintaining mental health improved from 5.2 to 8.2, and understanding how to seek help rose from 5.3 to 8.1. Additionally, knowledge of relaxation techniques increased from 5.1 to 8.3, while the ability to apply these techniques independently improved from 4.9 to 8.0. These findings demonstrate that the digital-based program is effective in helping pregnant women address mental health challenges and improve their psychological well-being.

Abstract

Maternal mental health issues are a critical contributor to the high Maternal Mortality Rate in East Kalimantan. Significant challenges in providing adequate support stem from limited psychological services and knowledge gaps among midwives at the Trauma Center Community Health Center (Puskesmas). This community service research aimed to build the capacity of midwives to provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) for pregnant women through a digitally supported psychoeducation program. The methodology involved a psychoeducation program delivered to 30 midwives, featuring a PFA workshop and the socialization of the "Bumil Sejahtera" application. A paired T-test was used to analyze data and measure improvements in participant knowledge and skills. The results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement (p<0.05) across all assessed domains, with the mean score increasing from 87.33 in the pre-test to 113.67 in the post-test. This enhancement of skills is beneficial for the early detection and initial management of maternal mental health issues. For maximum impact, program sustainability is recommended through periodic workshops and collaboration with the local Health Department to expand the application's user reach.

Abstract

Introduction: As agents of change, university students require two supporting factors, namely physical fitness and academic performance. Students with low VO₂MAX values experience decreased learning outcomes and low levels of fitness, with one influencing factor being smoking habits. Smoking habits affect cardiovascular endurance due to the nicotine content in cigarettes, which can damage the lungs. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between smoking intensity and VO₂MAX among students. Methods: This correlation study employed an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design. Purposive sampling was used to select 40 participants. The Cooper Test was used as the measurement tool. Data were analysed using the Spearman rank correlation. Results: The analysis of the relationship between smoking intensity and VO₂MAX using the Spearman rank test yielded a p-value of 0.01 (p < 0.05). This result shows a significant relationship between smoking intensity and VO₂MAX values. The correlation coefficient was -0.741, which indicates a strong statistical relationship between the variables. Conclusion: There is a relationship between smoking intensity and Maximum Oxygen Consumption (VO₂MAX) values among students.
