Abstract

Islamic education is central to shaping the character and advancing the civilization of the Muslim community. In Indonesia, Muhammadiyah—one of the country’s largest Islamic organizations—has played a pivotal role in promoting Islamic education. This study explores Muhammadiyah's contribution to Islamic education in Asahan Regency, focusing on institutional development, curriculum integration, and human resource management. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data were collected through 10 in-depth interviews with key stakeholders and direct observations at several Muhammadiyah educational institutions. The study found that Muhammadiyah oversees 50 educational institutions in Asahan Regency. These institutions implement a curriculum that integrates religious and general sciences, reflecting the educational philosophy of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan. Human resource management practices emphasize professionalism and the internalization of Islamic values, contributing to improved educational outcomes. The integration of religious and general knowledge serves as a model for balancing spiritual and intellectual development. Muhammadiyah's approach aligns with the broader objectives of Islamic education reform, promoting intellectual independence and character building rooted in Islamic teachings. Muhammadiyah plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of Islamic education in Asahan Regency. The findings offer practical insights for curriculum design and staff development in Islamic educational institutions, while also contributing to academic discourse on holistic and integrative approaches in Islamic education.

Abstract

Accurate pronunciation is essential for non-native Arabic learners, yet many face persistent difficulties in articulating specific sounds, leading to phonetic errors that impede comprehension. With technological advancements, artificial intelligence (AI)—particularly Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR)—offers promising solutions for identifying and correcting such errors. This study explores the application of AI in analyzing phonetic inaccuracies among Arabic learners through an experimental model using ASR technology. Employing a descriptive-analytical approach, ten undergraduate students from Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara were asked to read short Arabic passages. Their recordings were processed through ASR to detect pronunciation errors, including sound substitution, weak articulation, and inaccuracies in elongation (madd) and nasalization (ghunnah). The results demonstrate that ASR effectively identifies recurring phonetic error patterns, providing instructors with valuable diagnostic insights and enabling timely, personalized feedback. The study concludes that integrating AI-driven pronunciation analysis into Arabic language instruction can significantly enhance learning outcomes, support autonomous practice, and promote more accurate oral proficiency. It recommends that educators and institutions adopt ASR-based tools as part of digital language pedagogy to strengthen pronunciation training and foster continuous learner engagement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the role of clan identity in shaping the political preferences and orientations of the Mandailing community in the 2024 Regional Head Elections. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research informants consist of traditional leaders, religious leaders, youth figures, women, and the general public from various clans in Simangambat District. The results of the study indicate that clan identity continues to function as strong social and cultural capital in building solidarity, social legitimacy, and political loyalty. Regional head candidates use clan networks, participation in traditional activities, and cultural symbols and narratives as electoral strategies. However, there has been a shift in political orientation among young people and the educated community, who are beginning to prioritise rational considerations such as candidates' integrity, vision, and work programs. This study confirms that Mandailing local politics is in a transitional phase, moving from the dominance of genealogical identity politics to more rational political participation within the framework of modern democracy.

Abstract

General Background: The effectiveness of memorizing the Qur’an is deeply influenced by the strategies employed within tahfidz institutions. Specific Background: In Indonesia, pesantren have developed various methods to support this process, notably the Mukammal and Tikrar methods, each with distinct pedagogical characteristics. Knowledge Gap: However, empirical comparisons of these two methods across different institutional contexts remain limited, hindering data-driven decisions in tahfidz curriculum design. Aims: This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the Mukammal and Tikrar methods in two pesantren—Pondok Pesantren Ulumul Qur’an Stabat and Pesantren Modern Muhammadiyah Kwala Madu Langkat. Results: Using a qualitative case study approach involving observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, findings reveal that the Mukammal method emphasizes structured murajaah and accuracy, whereas the Tikrar method prioritizes intensive, flexible repetition for accelerated memorization. Novelty: The research presents a comparative perspective grounded in real institutional practices, showcasing how each method aligns with the unique needs and characteristics of santri. Abstract

General Background: Lifelong education is increasingly recognized as a vital component of human development, including in later life, as older adults experience physical, psychological, and social transitions. Specific Background: In Muslim communities, mosques function not only as places of worship but also as nonformal educational spaces that accommodate religious learning for elderly congregants. Knowledge Gap: Despite the growing participation of older adults in mosque-based religious activities, structured descriptions of gerontological education practices adapted to their conditions remain limited. Aims: This study aims to describe and analyze the planning, implementation, and evaluation of gerontological education for elderly congregants at the Sultan Ahmadsyah Grand Mosque in Tanjungbalai as a form of mosque-based lifelong education. Results: Using a qualitative case study approach through observation, interviews, and document analysis, the findings show that educational activities are conducted regularly through recitations and majelis taklim, applying simple, practice-oriented religious materials, adaptive teaching methods, and accessible learning media suited to elderly participants. Program evaluation is carried out informally and continuously by observing attendance, participation, and changes in religious attitudes and practices. Novelty: The study documents a community-driven gerontological education model rooted in local religious practices rather than formal curricula. Implications: These findings indicate that mosque-based gerontological education can support religious understanding, inner tranquility, and social relationships among elderly worshippers, while highlighting the need for further development in facilities and management to sustain such programs. Highlights: Educational activities are organized through regular religious gatherings adapted to physical and psychological conditions of older participants. Learning relies on simple materials, practical demonstrations, and repetitive methods to support understanding and participation. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis relevansi nilai-nilai afektif dalam Pelatihan Kader Dasar Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam Fakultas Ilmu Tarbiyah terhadap pembinaan kepribadian guru Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI). Fokus utama penelitian adalah mengidentifikasi bagaimana nilai-nilai afektif yang ditanamkan melalui berbagai kegiatan pelatihan mendukung pembentukan karakter guru PAI sesuai dengan Permendiknas 2007. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi, yang bertujuan untuk memahami pengalaman peserta secara mendalam. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai afektif ditanamkan melalui kegiatan seperti salat berjamaah, pembiasaan membaca doa sebelum makan, pemberian materi akademik dan afektif, diskusi interaktif, evaluasi pembelajaran, serta pembentukan kelompok belajar. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mematangkan peserta menjadi insan akademis yang sejalan dengan kepribadian guru PAI, yakni jujur, tegas, berperikemanusiaan, bertakwa, berakhlak mulia, dan menjadi teladan bagi peserta didik serta masyarakat. Studi ini berkontribusi dengan menunjukkan bahwa Pelatihan Kader Dasar tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai penguatan nilai keislaman, tetapi juga menjadi sarana strategis dalam membentuk karakter guru PAI yang ideal.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji implementasi program tahfiz Qur’an dalam membentuk karakter peserta didik di MAN 2 Deli Serdang. Fokus penelitian mencakup aspek perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi program. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa program tahfiz dirancang secara sistematis melalui penetapan target hafalan, penyusunan jadwal, serta keterlibatan guru pembimbing yang kompeten. Pelaksanaan dilakukan secara rutin dalam kegiatan harian dan intensif, sedangkan evaluasi dilakukan secara berkala untuk menilai hafalan dan perkembangan karakter. Program ini terbukti mampu membentuk karakter religius, disiplin, tanggung jawab, dan sikap saling menghormati pada peserta didik. Keterbatasan penelitian terletak pada ruang lingkup yang terbatas pada satu madrasah, serta variasi motivasi siswa yang belum tergali secara mendalam. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi dengan menyoroti program tahfiz sebagai strategi efektif dalam pendidikan karakter di lingkungan sekolah Islam.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa Taḥfîẓ Alquran dalam kurikulum Pesantren Taḥfîẓ Alquran Nur Aisyah dan Pesantren Modern Taḥfîẓil Quran Yayasan Islamic Cenre Sumatera Utara, dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dan untuk sumber data dikumpulkan dari berbagai narasumber, dokumen, dan peristiwa-peristiwa yang di bagi menjadi dua bagian yaitu primer dan sekunder. Adapun teknik pengumpulan sumber data, menggunakan alat atau instrumen yaitu Observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Teknik penjaminan keabsahan data di lakukan dengan berpedoman pada pendapat Moleong: yaitu perpanjangan keikutsertaan, ketekunan pengamatan, triangulasi, pemeriksaan teman sejawat dan teknik analisis data yang dilakukan adalah menurut Miles and huberman yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data dan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini adalah adanya terdapat empat pola Taḥfîẓ Alquran dalam kurikulum pesantren di Kabupaten Deli Serdang yaitu pola I: Taḥfîẓ Alquran menjadi satu-satunya kurikulum di pesantren tersebut. Pola ke II, Taḥfîẓ Alquran sebagai kurikulum wajib dengan dua bentuk, yaitu kurikulum khusus Taḥfîẓ dan kurikulum pendidikan formal tingkat MTs dan MA + Taḥfîẓ.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the regeneration of ulama in North Sumatra carried out by pesantren and Pendidikan Kader Ulama (PKU). This research uses the literature study method by collecting written sources in the form of authoritative books and journals. The theory used in this study is the theory put forward by Azyumardi Azra, that the function of pesantren in the past was the transmission and transfer of Islamic sciences, preserving Islamic traditions, and being a place to reproduce ulama. Currently, there seems to have been a shift towards the theory that pesantren can no longer be expected as a forum for cadre ulama, so the alternative solution is to establish an independent clerical cadre institution. The results of this study show that there is currently a scarcity of ulama. Many pesantren that once functioned as appropriate reproducing ulama can no longer be expected because they have been contaminated with the current of modernization. Pesantren can reformulate the curriculum as before and also it can develop Ma'had 'Aly. PKU is an alternative solution that can be used as an effort to regenerate ulama. Then, another important thing is that the mastery of the yellow book for prospective ulama must be strengthened because it is an absolute qualification for ulama. The real contributions from this research are to provide recommendations for pesantren to reinstate their original function, namely producing clerical cadres. Then, the efforts to regenerate ulama must be supported by Islamic mass organizations as a legacy of ulama which are also responsible for establishing clerical regeneration institutions.

Abstract

The development of social media has accelerated the spread of global culture, including Korean pop culture (K-Pop), among Generation Z. However, research on exposure to K-Pop culture and the use of TikTok on changes in Generation Z's cultural preferences in Medan City is still limited. This study aims to analyze the use of TikTok and exposure to K-Pop culture on changes in Generation Z's cultural preferences in Medan City. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach with a sample of 10 Generation Z informants aged 17–25 years selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation using interview guidelines, observation sheets, and research documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, narrative presentation, and conclusions. The results show that TikTok, through its For You Page (FYP) feature, increases exposure to K-Pop, thereby influencing Generation Z's preferences for Korean dramas, music, and culture. The implications of this study demonstrate the importance of utilizing digital media in introducing local culture to maintain Generation Z's interest.
