Abstract

Universities aim to achieve intelligent education through innovative learning methods. Students desire models to develop their skills, and this can be achieved through peer modelling with their peers. This research aims to develop a peer modelling-based digital module to enhance students' understanding of the Personality Development Practicum course, as an effort to improve the ideal personal qualities of prospective counselors. The research design uses the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The subjects in this study are material experts (guidance and counseling lecturers), media experts (learning technology lecturers), and potential users (guidance and counseling students). The results show that the digital module is equipped with video explanations, PowerPoint, infographics, motion graphics, and peer modelling videos. Based on the validation results by material experts, media experts, and potential users, the digital module is considered valid in terms of accuracy, usefulness, attractiveness, and ease of use. Further empirical evidence is needed to support the use of the peer modelling-based digital module in developing the ideal personal qualities of prospective counselors.

Abstract

Sharing behavior is a key in altruism that serves as a strategy to strengthen empathy and solidarity within the community (Guttman et al., 2016). This study investigates the relationship between sharing behavior and altruism, and its effects on the development of empathy in the community. The literature review shows that the act of sharing not only strengthens social relationships but also increases understanding between individuals (Chiu et al., 2006). When individuals engage in sharing, they tend to be more caring towards others, and create a more cooperative environment (Schor & Fitzmaurice, 2015). Sharing behavior also plays a role in strengthening group solidarity, building trust and support among community members. Studies show that communities with a strong culture of sharing are better able to face various social and economic challenges (Carleton & Hsiang, 2016). However, barriers such as stigma and mistrust can hinder participation in sharing. Therefore, it is important to design interventions that can overcome these barriers and raise awareness of the importance of sharing as a form of altruism. Thus, it can be said that sharing behavior has an important role in building empathy and solidarity, and requires collaboration from various sectors to create a more inclusive and empathetic society (Tomasello et al., 2005)

Abstract

In recent years, high school students have faced increasing challenges in establishing effective interpersonal communication, a critical skill for academic success and personal development. This study developed a cognitive-behavioral group counseling guide that integrates Kato Nan Ampek values to enhance students' interpersonal communication skills. The research followed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, including preliminary studies, product design, expert validation, and limited trials. Validation by experts in counseling, cultural studies, and educational media, as well as input from potential users, affirmed the guide’s theoretical feasibility. The guide was further evaluated through its application in a school setting, where it demonstrated substantial effectiveness in improving students' interpersonal communication. The results highlight the guide’s practical value for school counselors, emphasizing the significance of integrating local cultural values into counseling practices. This study underscores the potential of culturally grounded interventions in enhancing communication skills and offers insights for future research that could explore its broader applicability across diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

Guidance and counseling services can be done through the form of individual or group. A group shall be led by a counselor who has been previously trained in guidance and counseling. A leader must choose a leadership style with priority given to the achievement of goals within the group such as achieving cohesion within the group. The homeroom approach is how a counselor is able to create a group atmosphere of intervention, like a family atmosphere or a home atmosphere. The study aimed to review the reseach of homeroom intervention in guidance and counseling. The literature review is carried out in five stages: formulation of research questions, search for literature, processing of data, and assessment of the quality of filtering received and not received. A total of 100 articles were identified and subjected to PRISMA analysis, resulting in the selection of 12 articles for further in-depth examination. The criteria for articles included discussions on group leadership, counseling groups, strategies in group leadership, targeting students and guidance and counseling teachers in 2013-2023. The results showed that the homeroom approach can be considered as one of the group leader's qualifications. A group leader must have the ability to listen actively, receive, pay attention, create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, connect among members. A homeroom approach can facilitate the group leader to create an atmosphere of warm, welcoming, safe and comfortable within the group dynamics.

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study examines the effectiveness of play therapy using the Ajining Dhiri (ADHI) puppet medium to enhance self-esteem in slow learners. Utilizing a pretest-posttest control group design, the study involved 16 slow learners with low self-esteem, as measured by the Self-Esteem Inventory by Coopersmith (1978), validated (r=0.711–0.794) and reliable (Cronbach's alpha=0.760). Participants were divided into a treatment group receiving play therapy with ADHI puppets and a control group receiving standard group counseling. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Baseline findings revealed that 50% of students scored low in Strength (recognition and respect), 62.5% moderate in Significance (acceptance and affection), 75% moderate in Virtue (ethical behavior), and 87.5% low in Ability (task performance). Post-intervention results demonstrated significant improvements in self-esteem across all indicators for the treatment group. The Mann-Whitney U test yielded a value of 0.000, Z = -5.093, and a p-value < 0.05, confirming a significant difference between the treatment and control groups. The play therapy sessions, structured in three phases, enabled students to explore self-expression and cognitive engagement through puppet interactions. Compared to the control group, students in the treatment group showed greater enthusiasm and consistent self-esteem improvements. These findings validate the alternative hypothesis (H1) that play therapy using ADHI puppet media effectively enhances self-esteem in slow learners, offering a culturally contextualized and engaging intervention for addressing their psychological needs.

Abstract

This study aims to delineate the framework and content of an empowerment strategy that integrates Trisula ideals and is based on the KIPAS framework, with the intention of fostering student resilience. In addition, the purpose of this study is to assess, from a KIPAS standpoint, the impact of the empowerment strategy that incorporates Trisula values in fostering greater resilience among students. The stages of this model for research and development were modified from those of Borg and Gall. The student resilience scale is utilized by the instrument that measures student resilience. In the implementation phase, eight junior high school students from the Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Indonesia participated as research subjects. For the purpose of evaluating products, format and model assessment sheets are utilized. Expert evaluation data on format and content were analyzed utilizing Aiken's Value analysis. The findings of the study indicate that the structure and substance of the empowerment approach, which incorporates Trisula values as viewed through the lens of KIPAS, are suitable for assisting students in developing resilience. Additionally, it was deemed a success that this research product assisted students in developing resilience. Further recommendations for future researchers are to broaden the range of subjects included in effectiveness testing, thereby enabling the application of model products beyond Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

The lack of empathy shown by counselors towards their clients is a significant concern, as it can create discomfort and make clients reluctant to talk. To enhance empathy skills, it is essential to consider cultural aspects, one of which is drawing inspiration from the virtues contained in Serat Wedharaga to enrich the empathy abilities of prospective counselors. This study used a qualitative approach with a hermeneutic design, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation steps. The findings from the analysis of Serat Wedharaga have the potential to significantly contribute to improving counselor empathy. The study identified values such as humility, honesty, a learning spirit, responsibility, polite language, and perseverance. The main aspects of empathy, including social interaction, cognitive behavior, and emotional identification, were integrable with these values. For example, the values of humility and honesty in Serat Wedharaga support good communication skills in terms of social interaction. Similarly, the text’s spirit of learning and responsibility supports the understanding and imagination of others' views and perspectives in cognitive behavior. Additionally, the values of polite language and perseverance in Serat Wedharaga support the ability to feel and understand others' emotions in terms of emotional identification. These findings provide an essential basis for developing aspects of empathy that can be integrated with the concept of empathy, which can later be applied to enrich the guidance and counseling curriculum, including adding an empathy development course for prospective counselors.

Abstract

The global diversity is one dimension of the Pancasila student profile. Upon further examination, the dimension of global diversity is closely related to the attitude of tolerance. However, tolerance cannot be ingrained in students on its own without assistance from others. Therefore, assistance from others is needed in managing the global diversity of students. The aim of this research is to examine guidance and counseling services that integrate Indonesian cultural values. This research uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The results obtained include 14 articles that meet the study's objectives, with 5 articles relevant to global diversity, 5 articles relevant to guidance strategies in the era of independent learning, and 4 articles relevant to the values of Kakawin Sutasoma. The findings from this literature review suggest the possibility of guidance services infused with the values of Kakawin Sutasoma, as there is similarity between the aspects of global diversity and the verses in the Kakawin Sutasoma text. Further research is needed to design group guidance activities infused with the values of Kakawin Sutasoma to manage the global diversity attitudes of students.
