Abstract

The author observes that the use of belt grinding is still rare in the writer's own environment, both in the fields of education and small industries, because there are still many people who are fixated on ordinary grinders, and think that ordinary grinders are better in all work. The development of belt grinders has changed people's perspectives through the development that the authors have done, with increasing belt grinding functions through development which will certainly make belt grinders even more useful. This belt burrs are made and developed through pre-existing belt grinding shapes. The result of this development is a belt grinder which has a function more than the belt grinder which is already before. This belt burrs has three types of work functions, namely vertical, horizontal, and cutter, and also features speed control. With the development that the author does, of course, it will change people's perspectives because belt grinding has a function that is better than before and can better help the work of a grinding process.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of variations in welding current strength on the tensile strength of ABREX 400 steel weld joints. The results of this study are expected to give contribution toward the world of metal welding, especially low carbon steel metal welding which will later be beneficial for the development of the metal industry and technology. The method used in this research was the experimental method. In addition, the process of welding the material used SMAW welding and the type of seam V connection and the variations in the current strength used are 90 A, 100 A, and 110 A. The specimen used was a TRS 400 low carbon steel plate with a thickness of 10 mm and the electrode used was the E7018 electrode Ø 3.2 mm. The standard specimen used was ASTM-8 and the test was carried out using the Universal Testing Machine tensile test device. As a result, the research showed that the tensile strength at a current of 90 A was 588.91 N / mm2, a current of 100 A was 570.56 N / mm2, and a current of 100 A was 545.17 N / mm2. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that welding using a current strength of 90 A produces the highest tensile strength value, namely 588.91 N / mm2 compared to currents of 100 A and 110 A.

Abstract

Currently, an influential factor contributing to thermal comfort home design is the incorporation of energy-efficient passive design principles. It is exemplified by strategic window placement, the utilization of thermally efficient materials, and effective insulation. It exerts a substantial influence on thermal comfort and electrical consumption. This paper examines the effect of building shape and window-to-wall ratio (WWR) on thermal comfort and lighting energy consumption in residential houses in tropical climates. The lighting electricity and the adaptive thermal discomfort hours of 30 different models of houses were obtained using OpenStudio and EnergyPlus simulation software. The models were developed for three building shapes (square, rectangle, and L-shaped), and each model was varied in five models of window-to-wall ratios. Results indicate that the square-shaped model with a WWR of 10% will provide the lowest energy consumption in thermal comfort had 420.45 kWh/m2. On the other side, the lowest energy consumption in lighting is the square-shaped model with a WWR of 50% had 507.95 kWh/m2. Thus, the recommendation is to use the square-shaped house that represents the most efficient air conditioning system while the other WWR set also produce the most natural luminaire. It is because the percentage of WWR increased will result in more energy consumption in air cooling but slightly lower energy consumption in lighting. However, when considering aesthetics and freshness, the WWR of the 50% model will offer a better deal.

Abstract

In recent years, the exploration of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composites has garnered significant attention due to their versatility applications in aqueous environments. However, despite their promise, neat PVA exhibit limitations such as significant mechanical degradation under repeated swelling cycles. This study investigates the durability and tribological performance of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composites reinforced with nickel-iron layered double hydroxide (LDH) and tannic acid (TA) under repeated swelling cycles. Building on previous research that explored composite preparation and initial characterization, this research emphasizes the effects of cyclic swelling on wear resistance, friction behavior, and mechanical properties. Tribological tests were conducted to evaluate the coefficient of friction (COF) and wear rate before and after multiple swelling cycles, alongside tensile strength and strain measurements. The results revealed that the PVA/TA2/LDH2 composite, containing the highest additive content, exhibited the lowest wear rate of 11.52 × 10⁻⁵ mm³/Nm after 3 swelling cycles, demonstrating superior resistance to material degradation. Although PVA/TA2/LDH1 exhibited a slightly lower COF, its wear rate was higher due to reduced reinforcement. Compared to neat PVA, which showed a COF increase from 0.45 to 0.53, the PVA/LDH/TA composites retained their tribological stability, with only a marginal increase in COF and wear rate. Similarly, tensile strength of PVA/TA2/LDH2 decreased by only 11% after 3 cycles (from 33.3 MPa to 30 MPa), while neat PVA experienced a 25.5% reduction (from 30 MPa to 22.5 MPa). These findings highlight the potential of PVA/LDH/TA composites for applications in aqueous environments, offering significantly enhanced long-term performance and reliability.
