Abstract

Online media play a significant role in shaping public perception through framing processes, particularly on sensitive social issues such as protests. This study aims to analyze and compare how two Indonesian online news platforms, Kompas.com and Indozone.id, framed the student protest at Dongduk Women’s University in South Korea. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using Robert N. Entman’s framing model, which includes four elements: defining problems, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments, and suggesting remedies. The data were derived from two news articles published in November 2024. The findings reveal that Kompas.com applied a more critical and comprehensive framing approach, emphasizing social context, historical cases of sexual harassment, and the importance of safe spaces for women. In contrast, Indozone.id focused on the virality aspect, providing minimal analysis and omitting moral and solution-oriented framing. These differences reflect the editorial orientation of each platform and highlight the need for media literacy in an era dominated by algorithm-driven journalism. The study underscores how media framing influences public understanding of gender justice and women's education issues.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the dynamics of interpersonal communication within non-biological families through the Korean drama "Family by Choice," using the Social Penetration Theory by Altman and Taylor as an analytical framework. The phenomenon of non-biological families is increasingly common in society due to several factors. Therefore, interpersonal communication is essential to foster self-disclosure and emotional closeness in the process of relationship development. The drama "Family by Choice" represents the communication processes in non-biological families as a reflection of this social phenomenon. This qualitative study employs documentation techniques, and the findings are analyzed through a process of categorization and interpreted according to the stages of relationship development: orientation, exploratory effective, effective, and stable. The results show the development of relationships among characters in accordance with these theoretical stages, beginning with general and awkward conversations, personal information disclosure, involving feedback and suggestions on discussed topics, until achieving emotional closeness and high trust. These findings illustrate how interpersonal communication in media is portrayed based on real processes in social life. This research reinforces the relevance of social penetration theory as a communication analysis tool in audiovisual works and contributes to the development of studies on interpersonal communication and representations in popular media.

Abstract

This study explores the representation of animism and spiritualism in Sintren Dance through the perspective of cultural communication. Sintren is a traditional Javanese dance performance rooted in mystical beliefs, particularly involving ancestral spirits and the spirit realm. The study aims to identify the role of Sintren Dance as a medium of cultural communication that conveys deeply embedded values of animism and spiritualism. A qualitative method with an ethnography of communication approach was employed. Data were gathered through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, including photos and video recordings. The research focuses on three communities in the northern coastal region of Central Java: Paguyuban Sintren Sekar Arum (Tegal), Paguyuban Sintren Satria Nada (Brebes), and Paguyuban Sintren Satria Budaya (Pemalang). Findings reveal that Sintren functions as a symbolic channel of communication involving sacred objects (incense, chicken cages, black glasses, shawls, and flowers) that represent animism. Spiritualism is reflected in the ritual use of mantras and the belief in spirit possession, where the dancer enters a trance. The pawang acts as a spiritual intermediary, while the dalang manages the performance. The saweran tradition and audience interaction also reflect deep emotional and spiritual engagement. Ultimately, Sintren is more than entertainment—it is cultural heritage and spiritual expression that communicates ancestral values across generations.

Abstract

Abstract Perceptions of a lack of Teacher innovation in presenting the content in PLP 2 led some students to feel bored and uninterested in learning, which in turn spurred this research.  Furthermore, several students were uncertain of their own replies to the teacher's questions and opted to check or match the answers provided by their classmates before responding.  As a result, the researcher in Kebomas District set out to determine how students' perceptions of their own mathematical abilities were affected by teachers' levels of creativity in the classroom.  Finding out how teachers' imaginations affect their pupils' confidence in their own mathematical abilities was the overarching goal of this research.  Two hundred forty-six children from Kebomas District's seventh and eighth grade classes participated in the study.  This study is a survey-based correlational analysis.  The study found that students' self-efficacy in math learning is influenced by a total of 91.5% of the variables not included in this study, with 8.5% of that influence coming from teachers' creativity in the areas of classroom atmosphere, asking questions, innovative teaching practices, overcoming obstacles, and teaching style. Abstract

Language constitutes a fundamental aspect of human life, essential for the clear reception and conveyance of information. Consequently, ethical linguistic conduct is imperative for effective human communication. The use of appropriate language fosters goodness, harmony, friendship (ukhuwah), and peace, whereas the use of offensive language can result in misunderstanding and engender hostility. This study aims to elucidate the ethics of language as presented in the Qur'an through the method of tafsīr maqāṣidī and its application in daily life. Employing a maqāṣidī exegetical approach combined with descriptive qualitative analysis within a sociolinguistic paradigm, this research involved a study of 64 dormitory students who practiced linguistic ethics. The findings indicate that the implementation of sound language ethics, both environmentally and individually, preserves four key principles of Maqāṣid al-Sharī'ah: ḥifẓ al-dīn (preservation of religion), ḥifẓ al-’aql (preservation of intellect), ḥifẓ al-nafs (preservation of life), and ḥifẓ al-bī'ah (preservation of the environment). Thus, the use of proper language is a core aspect of linguistic ethics, and its daily implementation positively impacts an individual's personality, thereby contributing to a harmonious, virtuous, and peaceful environment.

Abstract

In the realm of English teaching and learning especially for those of non-native English users, English pronunciation instruction always calls for various techniques which can meet students’ conditions that are naturally affiliated with their psychological and cultural complexities. Thus, the present study aimed at examining the impact of one of English pronunciation instruction techniques, the so-called shadowing technique, on tertiary students’ English pronunciation at IAIN Curup, Bengkulu, Indonesia. An experimental study was conducted by engaging 40 tertiary English students selected randomly. They were split into two groups, wherein 20 students were taught English pronunciation using shadowing technique, and the rest 20 students were taught English pronunciation using a conventional technique. This study revealed that shadowing technique had a positive and significant impact on students’ English pronunciation. Their English pronunciation improvement encompassed various components such as monophthongs, diphthongs, triphthongs, semi-vowels, consonants, consonant cluster sounds, strong and weak forms, linking phonemes, syllable stresses, word stresses, sentence stresses, rhythm, pitch and intonation. Further studies are expected to scrutinize the effect of shadowing technique on English pronunciation by involving more samples, making use of gender difference as a moderator variable, and testing the retention of English pronunciation improvement.
