Abstract

Kata Kunci : kanker; dukungan sosial; kualitas hidup; pemberdayaan Capacity Building for Paguyuban Sehat in PKK RW 5 Pacarkembang in Providing Social Support for Cancer PatientsABSTRACTTreatment of cancer patients is different from other diseases. Decreased immunity due to chemotherapy treatment, changing roles due to inability to work and adjustment to post chemotherapy conditions. decreases mental health and overall quality of life. The results showed that about 632 patients (82.3%) of cancer patients were in the category of Quality of Life (QOL) score below the average and the quality of life of cancer patients was affected by the reported symptoms. The high risk of prolonged stress and mental disorders in cancer patients is due in part to the lack of support from the community. Precautions need to be taken to minimize stress both physically and mentally. So far, the support given to cancer patients mainly comes from fellow sufferers. Support through Paguyuban Sehat for cancer patients is provided in three aspects. The first aspect is knowledge, where the Healthy Paguyuban will be given information related to cancer, treatment of cancer patients after surgery and during chemotherapy or radiation treatment. The second aspect is social, where strengthening support is given to cancer sufferers. The third aspect is spiritual where a person seeks meaning, purpose, and connection to higher powers, and enables the individual to function effectively toward his or her life goals. Keywords: cancer; empowerment; social support; quality of life

Abstract

Anxiety is a major issue that worsens clinical symptoms and often arises when patients undergo surgery. However, the review of the impact of digital health education on pre-operative patients with anxiety is still limited. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of digital health education in reducing anxiety in pre-operative patients. Methods: A systematic review of quantitative studies was conducted. Relevant full-text articles were sourced from four databases: Web of Science, Science Direct, Proquest, and PubMed, from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2024. The quality of the included studies was assessed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). A narrative analysis was performed to present the effectiveness of digital health education on pre-operative patients with anxiety. Results: A total of 13 studies were identified, involving 1,394 pre-operative patients. The age of the participants ranged from 5 to 68 years. The effectiveness of digital health education for pre-operative patients with anxiety was seen as a mixed program combining images, audiovisual materials, and interactive features that allowed patients to communicate with each other and healthcare professionals. Conclusion: This study highlights that digital health education interventions are a promising avenue in healthcare delivery due to advancements in technology and information.

Abstract

Introduction: Globally, antiretroviral therapy (ART) has been successful in reducing the death rate due to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Different conditions in Indonesia mean the death rate due to HIV/AIDS is still high. The problem lies in the low compliance with ART. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between ART adherence with number of CD4, the opportunistic infection (OI) and viral load in PLHIV. Methods: A quantitative survey with cross-sectional approach was conducted between August – September 2022. As many as 375 PLHIV were recruited and agreed to give consent as research respondents. All respondents completed a questionnaire about ART adherence, OI and had blood taken to check CD4 count and viral load. Analyses were performed using Chi-squared test SPSS version 21 with significance level p<0.05. Results: A significant relationship was shown between ART adherence and OI (p value= 0.000 with <0.05). The respondents who reported adherence in ART also showed asymptomatic OI. The analysis also showed that ART adherence had significant relationship with CD4 count (p value= 0.000 with <0.05) and viral load (p value= 0.000 with <0.05), respectively. Respondents   adherent to taking ART had better level of CD4 and suppressed viral load in the body. Conclusions: Adherence of antiretroviral therapy is the important factor contributing to the immune status of PLHIV, which has an impact on reducing CD4 count and suppressing viral load, thereby preventing the emergence of OI.

Abstract

Heart disease become a leading cause of death globally. Heart failure is also a problem in Indonesia. Stress-induced smoking, lessening physical activity, diet habits, and medication non-adherence affected morbidity and mortality among heart failure patients. In the current era of digitalization, smartphones become a communication tool and source of information that are easily accessible to the public due to time, effort, and cost efficiency. This study aims to develop an Android-based autogenic relaxation intervention application to reduce stress levels. A research and development study design was used. There are three steps, the exploration of stress levels, evaluation of stress management by nurses, application development with focus group discussions and expert consultations; and the feasibility test. In stage 1, about 109 patients were assessed using a perceived stress scale questionnaire and interview sheet. In stage 2, 10 patients were assessed using the system usability scale questionnaire. Descriptive analysis was used. The result showed lifestyle changes contributing to stress levels. Stress management by nurses resulting moderates stress levels (78.9%). The Android-based application develops a menu of autogenic relaxation instructions, exercises, health education, and level evaluation. The results of the feasibility test received good acceptance from users. The Android-based autogenic relaxation applications can reduce stress levels in heart failure patients. Another study to determine the effect of autogenic relaxation applications in reducing stress levels in heart failure patients is further recommended.

Abstract

Monitoring carbon dioxide in patients on mechanical ventilation is crucial for critical care nurses. Monitoring the value of arterial carbon dioxide pressure involves invasive arterial blood gas analysis. Monitoring end-tidal carbon dioxide pressure using capnography is a non-invasive method. This study aims to compare end-tidal carbon dioxide values with arterial carbon dioxide pressure in mechanically ventilated patients. The research design is a literature review. Searches were conducted through Scopus, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and PubMed from 2018 to 2023. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses flowchart method was used to select articles. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme was used to assess article quality. Out of 79 articles, nine articles met the criteria. The procedures for collecting end-tidal carbon dioxide pressure and arterial carbon dioxide pressure data varied in terms of instrument types used and the subjects studied. There was no significant difference in carbon dioxide values between the end-tidal carbon dioxide and arterial carbon dioxide pressure methods. The agreement in comparing carbon dioxide values was acceptable. Measuring end-tidal carbon dioxide pressure has the potential to monitor mechanically ventilated patients, reducing the need for invasive monitoring, high costs, and repetitive arterial blood gas analysis.

Abstract

Background: One of the causes of diabetes mellitus is a person's lifestyle, namely their level of physical inactivity. So, to avoid complications, persons with diabetes mellitus require both pharmaceutical and non-pharmacological treatments to lower blood glucose values. Finding out if people with diabetes mellitus might reduce their blood glucose levels by combining a technique that involved slow deep breathing and progressive muscular relaxation was the primary goal of the research. Methods: This study is quasi-experimental because it uses a control group design with pre- and post-tests. The number of respondents is 34, and the method of sampling is purposive sampling. Twenty to twenty-five minutes of a combination of progressive muscle relaxation (Pro-Mure) and slow deep breathing exercises (SD-Bex) were administered to the experimental group, while the control group received the usual course of intervention. Values of blood glucose levels were the dependent variable. With a p-value of less than 0.05, the study used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to compare outcomes before and after treatment and the Mann-Whitney test to compare the experimental group to the control group. Results: We found that the intervention group's blood glucose value was 0.001 and the control group's was 0.025. A p-value of 0.001 was found on the value of blood glucose levels between the experimental group and the control group as a result of the study utilising the Mann-Whitney test. Conclusion: Those suffering from diabetes mellitus can find relief from their symptoms by combining the techniques of Progressive Muscle Relaxation with Slow Deep Breathing. Additionally, the method is simple to apply.

Abstract

Chronic lower extremity wounds impose significant physical, emotional, and socioeconomic burdens, with pain being a prevalent yet often neglected symptom. This systematic review examined the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions for wound-related pain in adults with chronic lower limb ulcers. A PRISMA-guided search was conducted across Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and ProQuest, including randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental studies. Twelve RCTs published between 2011 and 2025 involving 1,078 participants were analyzed. Interventions ranged from single-session methods to multi-session therapies, behavioral programs, and modality-based treatments. Findings showed that stress balls and cold saline significantly reduced procedural pain, while electrical stimulation and motivational support provided sustained benefits. In contrast, virtual reality and heated saline offered limited pain relief but improved patient comfort. Overall, simple, low-cost approaches demonstrated promise for immediate relief, whereas structured behavioral and modality-based therapies supported longer-term pain management. These strategies, being safe and feasible, may complement standard wound care, particularly within nursing practice. Further high-quality, large-scale trials are warranted to refine their clinical application.
