Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the pronunciation errors in reading text made by students of English Language Education department of Simalungun University. This research applied the qualitative approach with content analysis method. The technique of collecting data used a recording, and data analysis by transcribing the students’ pronunciation from recording into the phonetic transcriptions, grouping the students’ errors in pronouncing English vowels and consonants into separate divisions, employing the percentage descriptive analysis to count all errors, and interpreting the result of the data analysis. The result of research is found on English Vowels and English Consonants error. The pronunciation error on English vowel, namely: /i:/, /æ/, /ə/, /ɜ:/, /ɔ:/, and /u:/. The vowel pronunciation error is commonly on pure vowel. It is on a long vowel sound and short vowel sound. While the pronunciation error of English consonants found: /ʧ/, /ʤ/, /θ/, /ð/, /ʃ/, /ʒ/. The consonant pronunciation error appears on voiceless and voice consonants. The other consonant pronunciation error is to pronounce the double consonant. The students assumed that every double consonant would be pronounced with double sounds. The pronunciation error on English vowels and English consonants were caused some factors. Factors of pronunciation error, namely; 1. Lack of understanding and knowledge. 2. Students are nervous. 3. Students are unable to distinguish between sounds that are almost the same. 4. Students lack practice. 5. Native language. 6. Lack of new vocabulary. 7. Lack of confidence.

Abstract

Purpose–This study aims to measure the effectiveness of implementing Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in improving students' speaking skills.Methodology – This study uses a quantitative pre-test and post-test design. Researchers will compare students' speaking skill scores before (pre-test) and after (post-test) using the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) to determine whether there is a significant improvement. The quantitative data will analyse used SPSS to measure the experimental and control classes.Findings – This study show that the experimental class had a higher average score (75.74) than the control class (61.32). The Sig. (2-tailed) is less than 0.05; the difference between the means is statistically significant. There is a statistically significant difference between the means of the experimental and control classes.Contribution – The increase in scores from pre-test to post-test is empirical evidence that project-based learning is an effective learning method for improving student learning outcomes while developing the various skills required for future success.

Abstract

The implementation of techology in education was really helpful. The development of technology has increased the number of intriguing and fresh online resources for English learning. The Duolingo app makes learning languages, particularly English, simple, convenient, and efficient. The presence of Duolingo app offered ESP learners to learn basic English independently. There were several previous researches which explore more about the use of Duolingo for learning language, particularly English. Therefore the aim of this research was to see and analyze ESP learners’ opinion on the implementation of Duolingo in order to strengthen their basic English. This was a qualitative research which took sixtyone ESP learners as the informants. The data of this study was ESP learners answers on the use of Duolingo. The data were gainned by distributing an online and open ended questionaires to ESP learners who took randomnly. The findings were ESP learners enjoyed learning basic English through the exercised offered by Duolingo. Because its offering to practice English skills in daily. Then, they can learn English as if they learn with the real native speakers. The Duolingo program allows students to acquire vocabulary in English, which includes in several features such as gamification.

Abstract

Pelatihan Berbicara Bahasa Inggris (Speaking) ini merupakan bagian dari program pengabdian Masyarakat Dosen dan Mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Simalungun di Desa Tangkahan Kabupaten Langkat Provinsi Sumatera Utara.  Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan kepada anak anak yang tinggal di seputaran Kawasan Konservasi Hutan Pariwisata di Daerah Tangkahan, Kabupaten Langkat. Pelatihan ini bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan dan pengetahuan anak‑anak Desa Jaring Halus dalam Bahasa Inggris. Melalui penggunaan media gambar, pelatihan ini memperkenalkan Pariwisata dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Hasil observasi sebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan Bahasa Inggris di desa tersebut masih rendah, namun dalam kondisi tersebut, Pemerintah Desa di Kawasan tersebut memberikan ruang bagi anak- anak yang termotivasi untuk belajar Bahasa Inggris. Dari hasil observasi yang dilakukan di awal pada tanggal 25 Maret 2026 dengan kondisi Lembaga Belajar Bahasa Inggris yang dipandu oleh Pengajar (Tutor) yang bukan berlatar Belakang Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, sehingga diperlukan pelatihan bagi para anak- anak dan juga Tenaga Pengajar. Namun, pada saat ini Pelatihan yang dilaksanakan focus terhadap Pelatihan Berbicara Speaking terhadap anak- anak untuk lebih berdampak, dan akan direncanakan juga pelatihan kepada Tenaga Pengajar Tutor dalam kegiatan pengabdian yang berikutnya. Kegiatan Pengabdian ini dimulai dari Pada Tanggal 5 April 2026 sampai dengan 8 April di Desa Tangkahan, Kabupaten Langkat, dengan melibatkan sepuluh Instruktur— dosen Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Simalungun dan 20 Orang Mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Simalungun

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan untuk merespon beberapa keluhan dari guru – guru disekolah SMA N 2 Pangururan yang mengalami beberapa kendala dalam mengelola kelas pada saat proses pembelajaran. Pengabdian Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mensosialisasikan beberapa strategi dan seni dalam manajemen kelas yang akan memudahkan guru – guru dalam mengelola kelas agar lebih kondusif dan menyenangkan untuk mendukung tercapainya capaian pembelajaran. Pengabdian ini juga menjadi ruang bagai Dosen dan Guru untuk saling berdiskusi terkait hambatan – hambatan yang ditemukan dikelas dewasa ini sekaligus menemukan strategi dan seni terhadap permasalahan – permasalahan dengan seni manajemen kelas berbasis kearifan lokal yang lebih mengena dengan permasalahan kontemporer dilapangan
