Abstract

The development of innovative health technology is continuously needed by health workers, including nurses in hospitals. Nurses need to adapt and are required to be able to use various current technological innovations. However, the demand for quality care in maintaining patient safety through the use of technology is still an issue, thereby affecting the achievement of nurse job satisfaction. This study aims to describe the job satisfaction of nurses regarding the use of health technology. It is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design that included 172 hospital nurses. The sample was selected using the purposive sampling method, and the data were collected through questionnaires. Of the nurses in the sample, 33.1% were between the ages of 26 and 31 years old, while 90.1% were female. Furthermore, regarding educational background, a majority of the nurses (54.1%) held diplomas in nursing, and 23.8% had professional nursing degrees. The maximum length of work experience taking care of patients was over 10 years. The results of this study showed that 40.1% of the nurses were satisfied with the use of health technology, while 59.9% were not satisfied. A significant relationship was found between education level, work position, and nurse satisfaction (p < 0.05). The recommendation of this study is that the manager’s role should include supporting, motivating, and providing self-awareness for the nurses regarding technology in order to save time, make communication more effective, facilitate nursing care, and improve patient safety. The manager should also be in charge of implementing easy-to-use technological innovations. Abstract

Background: The implementation of a work culture of concise, neat, clean, attentive, and diligent is a proven adaptation of lean management that improves service quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency. However, its implementation in hospitals is often suboptimal. Purpose: To analyze the implementation of concise, neat, clean, attentive, and diligent in hospital inpatient wards. Method: A case study survey of residency reports was conducted from May to June 2025, using interviews with five Nurse Unit Managers (NUMs), questionnaires with 115 nurses, and field observations. The analysis used fishbone and SWOT analysis, with interventions designed following Kurt Lewin's theory of change. Results: Staff compliance with the 5Rs increased from 61% to 83% post-intervention, while patient/family engagement increased from 35% to over 60%. The pilot unit's standardization of ward layouts was also accompanied by enhanced supervision and the use of visual educational media (posters, leaflets, QR codes). Conclusion: Implementing a structured and collaborative work culture can improve ward order, increase staff compliance, and encourage patient participation. Follow-up actions are recommended through program integration into hospital SOPs, utilization of digital monitoring, and replication of standard layouts across all units.   Keyword: Inpatient Wards; Nursing Management; Patient Safety; Work Culture.

Abstract

Well-being is a unique phenomenon perceived by nurses. Nurses have their own definition of well-being based on their work experience. This study aimed to examine the nurses’ workplace well-being from the perspective of Indonesian staff nurses within hospital settings. A qualitative interpretive descriptive design was employed in this study. Participants were recruited from a university hospital in Medan, Indonesia, comprising 10 staff nurses representing the emergency department, intensive care unit, and inpatient wards. Data were collected through a focus group discussion and analyzed using thematic analysis. Data analysis identified three overarching themes that encapsulate staff nurses perspectives on workplace well-being: the ideal concept of nurses workplace well-being, contributing factors to nurses’ workplace well-being, and nurses expectations of hospital administrators to enhance nurses workplace well-being.  Staff nurses hold distinct expectations regarding their workplace well-being, which are shaped by personal and professional factors. Several contributing elements influence their experiences, including organizational support, workload, and interpersonal relationships. The findings indicate that Indonesian staff nurses perceive workplace well-being as a multifaceted and challenging issue. They highlighted their hopes and expectations concerning workplace well-being across psychological, physical, financial, inter-professional relationship, and hospital facilities dimensions. It is imperative that nurse managers and hospital administrators give careful consideration to these concerns and implement evidence-based, targeted strategies to mitigate the challenges that adversely affect nurses’ well-being. Abstract

The transition period for new nurses is often characterized by adaptation-related stress, limited clinical experience, and insufficient supervision. Preceptorship offers structured support that helps accelerate competency development and enhance clinical readiness for practice. To evaluate the effectiveness of preceptorship programs in improving clinical competence in novice nurses.  A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and Google Scholar from August 2019 to April 2025, following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and registered PROSPERO protocol. This review included quantitative studies involving new nurses who received structured preceptorship interventions with clinical competency as the primary outcome. Eligible study designs comprised randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental studies, uncontrolled pre–post trials, and cross-sectional surveys. Qualitative studies, student-based programs, and orientations without preceptors were excluded. Two reviewers independently conducted study selection, data extraction, and methodological quality appraisal using the JBI critical appraisal tools. The findings were synthesized narratively. Ten studies consistently demonstrated that preceptorship programs improved clinical competence, confidence, and readiness for practice. Eight studies reported significant improvements (p < 0.05). Effective programs included individualized supervision, structured feedback, and standardized competency assessments. Critical success factors included preceptor readiness, continuity of preceptorship, organizational support, and reduced transition shock. The findings indicate that well-structured preceptorship programs can enhance the clinical competence and self-confidence of novice nurses. Healthcare institutions are encouraged to adopt standardized preceptorship frameworks, allocate adequate resources, and provide ongoing training and support for preceptors to strengthen practice readiness, improve quality of care, and promote nurse retention.
