Abstract

HIV/AIDS has been a global health issue for many years. This chronic condition affects multiple aspects of life and acts as a significant stressor that reduces patients’ quality of life. People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) often face limitations in daily activities, making it difficult to accept their identity and life circumstances. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between self-acceptance and quality of life among HIV/AIDS patients at the VCT Clinic of Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital in 2023. An analytical cross-sectional design was used with purposive sampling, involving 84 participants. Data collection took place from November 2022 to November 2023 using the USAQ and WHOQOL HIV-BREF questionnaires. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation tests. Results showed a positive and significant correlation between self-acceptance and quality of life (p = 0.034; r = 0.231). Significant relationships were also found with the physical (p = 0.012; r = 0.272) and psychological (p = 0.014; r = 0.269) domains. In conclusion, self-acceptance is positively associated with overall quality of life, particularly in physical and psychological aspects, among HIV/AIDS patients.

Abstract

Elementary schools are strategic environments for developing healthy lifestyles from an early age through a promotive and preventive approach. The little doctor training program as school health cadres is one effective strategy for strengthening School Health Program (UKS). The training was initiated as a post-COVID-19 pandemic recovery program to revitalize UKS in response to the low implementation of UKS and the high percentage of students who have not implemented Clean and Healthy Living Behaviours (PHBS). To increase the capacity of students at SDN 05 Surau Gadang as school health cadres to achieve school health empowerment. The training was conducted in collaboration with the Nanggalo Community Health Centre with group-based interventions for 63 students in grades 3–5 at SDN 05 Surau Gadang, which included the delivery of material on UKS, PHBS, Primary Preventive Care (P3P), and First Aid for Accidents (P3K), as well as hands-on practice in six-step hand washing and first aid simulations. Evaluation was conducted using pre-tests and post-tests. There was an increase in the average knowledge score from 65.56 to 71.59 (p = 0.019), and the proportion of students in the “good” category increased from 36.5% to 46%. Little doctor training is effective in improving understanding of PHBS and UKS and forming independent elementary school health cadres. This program positively impacts the capacity of community health centres in optimizing ongoing little doctor training programs post-pandemic.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period that is vulnerable to the emergence of risky behaviors, such as smoking, promiscuity, and lack of health concern. These behaviors can negatively impact adolescent growth and development physically, mentally, and socially. This community service activity aims to increase knowledge and awareness regarding preventing risky behaviors through a health education program for students of SMPN 23, Padang City. The activity methods include preparation and problem identification stages, coordination with partners, and implementation stages, including interactive counseling, group discussions, and distribution of leaflets and promotional banners. The first day of education targeted all students in grades VII and VIII of SMPN 23 Padang. On the second day, education focused on members of the Adolescent Health Cadre (KKR) and the Student Council (OSIS), totaling 27 people. Evaluation was carried out with pre-tests and post-tests to measure the increase in knowledge. The activity results showed a significant increase in the average knowledge score of the cadre students (77.78 to 94.07). In addition, the students showed enthusiasm and active involvement throughout the activity. This educational activity was successfully implemented smoothly and brought about an increase in knowledge among students, KKR cadres, and OSIS. Cadre students understand their role and are expected to be able to serve as peer educators when their peers encounter health issues or risky behavior. Similar activities, involving teachers and parents, need to be implemented continuously to optimize risky behavior prevention.

Abstract

Prostate cancer is one of the most common and deadliest cancers among men, both worldwide and in Indonesia. Prostate cancer is a malignant disease characterized by abnormal cellular proliferation within the prostate tissue. Age is the most common risk factor for prostate cancer, with the risk increasing markedly in men aged 50 years and older. The most frequently identified subtype of prostate cancer is adenocarcinoma. This study was a descriptive observational study using medical record data of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer based on histopathological findings at the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory of Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital, Padang, during the period 2018–2022. Total sampling was employed. The variables analyzed included age, clinical manifestations, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, histopathological cell type, and the degree of cellular differentiation of prostate cancer. The results showed that a total of 41 prostate cancer patients met the inclusion criteria. The most common age group was 55–70 years (63.4%). Local clinical manifestations were observed in 92.7% of patients, serum PSA levels >20 ng/mL in 82.9%, adenocarcinoma as the histopathological type in 100%, and poorly differentiated tumors in 82.9% of cases. The predominant histopathological type of prostate cancer was adenocarcinoma. Most patients were aged 55–70 years, commonly presented with local clinical symptoms, had serum PSA levels >20 ng/mL, and most frequently exhibited a poorly differentiated degree of tumor differentiation.
