Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyse the dynamics of conflict and conflict management strategies in educational settings, focusing on interactions between teachers at a public junior high school in Makassar City. The specific objectives of this study are to identify the forms and causes of conflict, and to analyse conflict resolution strategies based on Louis R. Pondy's organisational conflict theory and Thomas–Kilmann's conflict management model. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies. Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that conflicts in the school environment were latent and interpersonal, triggered by differences in views between senior and junior teachers, communication styles, and an imbalance in the division of tasks and responsibilities. The most commonly used conflict management strategies are compromise and accommodation, with the aim of maintaining harmony and stability in working relationships. However, these strategies tend to be short-term because they do not address the root causes of the conflict. In conclusion, effective conflict management in educational institutions requires a more participatory, open, and organisation-learning-oriented approach so that conflicts can be managed constructively and contribute to improving teacher performance and overall education quality. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dinamika konflik dan strategi manajemen konflik di lingkungan pendidikan, dengan fokus pada interaksi antar guru di salah satu Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri di Kota Makassar. Tujuan khusus penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk dan faktor penyebab konflik, serta menganalisis strategi penyelesaiannya berdasarkan teori konflik organisasi Louis R. Pondy dan model manajemen konflik Thomas–Kilmann. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi dan studi dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konflik di lingkungan sekolah bersifat laten dan interpersonal, yang dipicu oleh perbedaan pandangan antara guru senior dan junior, gaya komunikasi, serta pembagian tugas dan tanggung jawab yang tidak seimbang. Strategi manajemen konflik yang paling sering digunakan adalah kompromi dan akomodasi, dengan tujuan menjaga keharmonisan dan stabilitas hubungan kerja. Namun, strategi tersebut cenderung bersifat jangka pendek karena belum menyentuh akar permasalahan yang mendasari konflik. Kesimpulannya, manajemen konflik yang efektif di lembaga pendidikan memerlukan pendekatan yang lebih partisipatif, terbuka dan berorientasi pada pembelajaran organisasi agar konflik dapat dikelola secara konstruktif dan berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan kinerja guru serta kualitas pendidikan secara keseluruhan. Kata kunci: Manajemen konflik, strategi penyelesaian, guru, lembaga pendidikan.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the competencies of science and mathematics Olympiad coaches in Barru Regency through training and mentoring programs. The activity was held at the Barru Regency Education Office and involved elementary and junior high school teachers from various subdistricts. Participants were grouped by educational level and subject area—specifically mathematics and science—to ensure the training content was tailored to the specific needs of Olympiad coaching. The five-day training utilized a combination of lectures, discussions, problem-solving practice, and mentoring. The training materials were aligned with the MIPA Olympiad guidelines, covering concept reinforcement, problem-solving strategies based on Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), and systematic student coaching techniques. Activity evaluation was conducted through pre-tests, post-tests, observation of participant activities, and participant response questionnaires. The results of the activity showed an improvement in teachers’ understanding and skills in solving and designing HOTS-based problems. Additionally, participants demonstrated enthusiasm and active participation throughout the program. Conducting the training separately by subject area and school level was a key strength of the program, as it allowed for more focused and participant-centered instruction. Consequently, this community service initiative successfully contributed to strengthening the competencies of MIPA Olympiad coaches in Barru Regency.
