Abstract

This essay explores the impact of Extensive Reading (ER) on vocabulary acquisition among junior high school students, highlighting its potential as an effective and engaging language-learning strategy. ER emphasizes reading a variety of texts chosen based on personal interests, creating a natural and immersive environment for students to encounter new words in meaningful contexts. Unlike traditional vocabulary instruction, ER fosters incidental learning, encouraging students to develop language skills through enjoyable and authentic reading experiences. To assess its effectiveness, this study analyzed the pre- and post-ER vocabulary scores of 21 junior high school students. The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in their vocabulary knowledge, underscoring the effectiveness of ER in promoting language growth. These findings not only validate the role of ER in enhancing vocabulary acquisition but also shed light on its broader potential for improving overall language proficiency. By incorporating ER into language curricula, educators can offer a more holistic and student-centered approach to language learning. This research highlights the importance of integrating ER into educational frameworks to cultivate lifelong reading habits while simultaneously boosting linguistic competence. As such, this study provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers aiming to enhance language instruction for junior high school learners.

Abstract

This article aims to determine the effectiveness of parenting study activities in increasing parents' awareness of early childhood care. A resilient child is a child who can adjust, face challenges, and bounce back after experiencing a difficulty or problem. the implementation of this community service uses a community service method using a PAR approach with stages: Stage to Know, Stage to Understand, Stage to Plan, Stage to Act, Stage to Change. The results state that children's resilience does not appear suddenly, but needs to be trained from an early age by parents. A resilient child does not mean never failing, never being sad, or never being disappointed, a resilient child is a child who can get up, after feeling failure, sadness, and disappointment. Teaching children to face obstacles and rise from failure can be done by several things: being an example for children, building a mutually supportive relationship between parents and children, giving children the opportunity to develop a sense of responsibility, helping children control emotions, and giving children the opportunity to face challenges

Abstract

This study examines the integration of Maqashid Syariah values into Indonesia's Merdeka Curriculum as a framework for harmonizing national education with Islamic principles. By employing the five core dimensions of Maqashid Syariah, protection of religion, intellect, life, wealth, and progeny as evaluative lenses, this research analyzes the extent to which the current curriculum aligns with these foundational goals. Utilizing a descriptive-qualitative method with content analysis, findings indicate that although the Merdeka Curriculum emphasizes holistic student development and independent learning, its alignment with Maqashid Syariah values remains largely untapped. The study affirms that adopting the Maqashid paradigm can enrich curriculum discourse and provide a contextualized direction for Islamic education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the variation of trichomes in the Solanaceae family found in the Cendana Hill of Sedan District, Rembang Regency. This study used the trichome printing method and the results were observed under a microscope. This study found trichomes glandular and non-glandular from the six Solanaceae species with various types. Different variations were found from the six species of the Solanaceae family, i.e: stellata, acicular, uncinate, hydathode, simplex and curved. The variations of trichomes from the Solanaceae family have different characteristics and shapes. This study identified six species from the Solanaceae family that have variations in the shape and type of trichomes on the epidermal layer of leaves, i.e: Solanum melongena var. melongena, var. serpentinum, Solanum lycopersicum, Solanum nigrum, Physalis angulata, Nicotiana tabacum, and Capsicum frutescens. Non-glandular trichomes act as a mechanical defense against pathogens and herbivores, while glandular trichomes have the function of secreting secondary metabolites, such as alkaloids and flavonoids, which play a role in chemical defense.
