Serial killer movies have positively and negatively influenced children's behavior, attitude, and perception. This study was conducted on students of middle school in Indonesia. The data was collected through interviews with six Indonesian junior high school children after they watched serial killer movies. The sample was chosen purposively based on the purpose of the study. The study finds out that serial killer movies negatively impact children's psychology, attitudes, and behavior, specifically who watch serial killer movies than other children who do not. After analyzing six participants, the researchers find out that most of the participants feel the same way. Most of them felt terrified and freaking out during the film was played. And above that, most participants do not feel affected psychologically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually affected them. Some of them have the same shadows as The Joker had, some of them have the same persona as what The Joker had, and some of them have the same animus or feminine side of them as what The Joker had. But that things (Shadow, Persona and Animus) did not affect them psychologically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Abstract

Several students do not show their positive attitude in studying literature because they are getting difficulties engaging with the materials and the literary texts that are provided by the teachers. Other than that, there are various factors that influence the students not to show their positive attitude to the study of literature. Therefore, this article attempts to elaborate on two main factors that influence student attitudes in studying literature in the EFL (English as a Foreign Language) classroom and offer the strategies used to improve student attitudes in studying literature. Two main factors that affect their attitude toward the study of literature are the selection of literary texts and the teaching method used by the teachers. Thus this article elaborates on how to select the appropriate literary text to improve student attitudes toward the study of literature. Also, it offers two possibilities of teaching methods that are used to encourage the students in studying literature. It involves reading response and visual aids. To generalize the idea, in increasing student attitudes in studying literature, it needs creativity and much effort for the teachers. Students also face many difficulties in studying literature in the classroom. Thus, educators should be aware of the problems that arise among the students and provide the appropriate solution to them.

Abstract

The research set out to shed light on balancing awareness, a key Taoist concept that forms the basis of American science fiction author Ursula K. Le Guin's creative works. The balance in Le Guin's work represented the peaceful coexistence of conflicting forces. Le Guin applied Taoist ideas, such as the interdependence of two opposites and non-interference, to convey her concept of balance. The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin, published in 1969, served as the primary text for this qualitative study. In The Left Hand of Darkness, the concept of balance was built on transcending the binary split and forging peaceful connections between I and the Other. To reflect her Taoist understanding of the relationship between I and the Other, Le Guin created an androgynous universe in The Left Hand of Darkness and employed the concept of a journey to the alien territory. The results demonstrated that in Le Guin's make-believe world, the protagonists from two different cultural backgrounds completed their trip by bridging the mental division and acquiring Taoist wisdom. The Yin-Yang emblem and the reading of the ancient poem served as metaphors for the peaceful coexistence of dualistic opposites. By transcending dualistic opposites and recognizing a connection between I and the other, Le Guin's worldview, which drew inspiration from Taoism, achieved holistic success.
