Abstract

Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world, which significantly influences the culture and consumption patterns of its people, especially regarding the increasing demand for halal products. The development of various industries requires heightened awareness of the halal status of products. Teenagers, as one of the primary targets of new products, must have adequate knowledge to recognize whether the products they intend to purchase are halal. This community service aims to provide knowledge about the importance of recognizing halal products, raise awareness among youth about the necessity of consuming halal products in daily life from an early age, and educate students on the importance of carefully selecting halal products. This is to ensure peace of mind, safety, and health for individuals from an early stage. The community service activities were carried out through socialization and educational methods. The results of this community service indicate an increase in students’ awareness from school age, so that when they are later exposed to environments with various products — both halal and those with unclear halal status — they will have the awareness to choose what is appropriate and inappropriate to consume. In addition, participants gained a deeper understanding of the importance of halal labeling. Consequently, consumer trust and purchasing interest — particularly among students of SMK 3 Seluma, Bengkulu — are expected to increase due to the presence of halal labels.

Abstract

A clean and healthy environment is an essential factor in creating a good quality of life for the community. Waste problems remain a serious issue, both at local and global levels. The lack of public awareness in maintaining environmental cleanliness is one of the main causes of increasing pollution, which negatively impacts health and the surrounding ecosystem. Waste management continues to be an environmental issue that demands serious attention in various regions. The low level of public awareness in maintaining cleanliness contributes to escalating environmental pollution, affecting both human health and ecological balance. Socialization is one of the effective methods for instilling values of cleanliness and raising public awareness about the importance of caring for the environment. This article highlights the importance of socialization in efforts to build public awareness towards a waste-free environment. Through both direct and indirect socialization activities, it is expected that the community will understand the negative impacts of waste on the environment and be motivated to adopt a clean and healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

This community service program was carried out in RT 24 RW 4, Pematang Gubernur Subdistrict, Bengkulu City, with the objective of empowering local residents in managing household organic waste through the production of eco-enzyme and the use of a stacked-bucket biocompost reactor. The initiative began with field observations, followed by the construction of a biocompost reactor a week before the main training session. The socialization event took place at the residence of the RT head, was attended by local citizens, and featured a resource person from Yayasan Sehati Bengkulu. During the activity, participants learned directly how to make eco-enzyme using kitchen waste and how to operate a simple compost reactor made from used plastic buckets. Although the final results of the organic fertilizer were not yet visible due to the fermentation process requiring a longer time, the activity successfully increased residents’ awareness, participation, and understanding. This program highlighted that managing organic waste at the household level using simple and low-cost tools can contribute to environmental sustainability and economic resilience for families by enabling self-production of fertilizers.
