Abstract

This study aims to examine the discourse on policies implemented by Xi Jinping regarding the concept of “Sinicization of Islam” as well as Western criticism and Islamic perspectives. In recent years, the Chinese government under Xi Jinping has issued various policies to integrate religious practices with socialist values and Chinese culture. This has raised concerns about human rights violations and religious freedom for the Uyghur Muslim community. The type of research used is qualitative, while the data processing method used is descriptive discourse analysis by examining relevant documents. Data was obtained through secondary data collection techniques, including literature analysis and media reports. This study found that the discourse of Sinicization of Islam promoted by the Chinese government has been criticized by Western countries and is contrary to the principle of religious freedom in the Islamic perspective. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that the Sinicization policy can be understood as a form of cultural and political domination that causes tension between state ideology and universal values of humanity and Islam.

Abstract

This study examines how the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has affected Indonesia's rising costs for wheat, fertilizer, and oil. The study looks at how domestic policy responses are influenced by global disruptions using a political-economics framework. With an emphasis on oil, wheat, and fertilizer imports, financial statistics and trade data between Russia, Ukraine, and Indonesia were gathered in 2021–2022. Descriptive qualitative approaches, data-gathering techniques, and data-analysis procedures are used in the analysis.  According to the findings, the war caused a great deal of instability in the world's oil distribution, which raised Indonesian commodities prices and had a domino impact on the country's food supply chains. The conflict also impacted Indonesia's access to fertilizer raw materials from Russia, the cost of importing oil from Russia, and the purchase of wheat from Ukraine. As a result, fertilizer prices significantly increased, which in turn led necessities like wheat to rise. Overall, the study improves knowledge of how geopolitical conflicts directly affect Indonesia's economic stability through supply vulnerabilities and price escalation, and it emphasizes the need of strategic policy responses to handle external influences.

Abstract

This article investigates the transformation of international trade law into a strategic instrument of geopolitical contestation, focusing on the legal rivalry between China and Western countries. Employing Lawfare Theory and Legal Realism, the study adopts an interdisciplinary method combining legal doctrine, international relations theories, and empirical case studies from WTO and ISDS mechanisms. The findings reveal that legal platforms originally designed for neutral dispute resolution have been repurposed as tools of statecraft. China’s increased legal engagement post-2018 signals a shift toward strategic legalism, where litigation serves as foreign policy. Meanwhile, the United States exercises unilateral legal strategies, undermining multilateral institutions. These actions reflect a broader erosion of legal neutrality, leading to procedural asymmetries that disadvantage Global South countries. The article concludes that without institutional reform and renewed global commitment to procedural justice, international legal mechanisms risk becoming arenas of symbolic dominance rather than fair adjudication. This trend challenges the foundational purpose of international law as a stabilizing force and invites critical reevaluation of legal norms amid a multipolar world order.

Abstract

This study addresses the epistemological gap between exoteric knowledge (‘ilm al-lisān) and esoteric knowledge (‘ilm al-qalb) in pesantren education, which often results in a dichotomy between linguistic competence and ethical conduct. The study offers a new pedagogical model by integrating Sufistic elements into Nahw (Arabic grammar) education, thus contributing to the moral and spiritual formation of students. Using a qualitative approach with an Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) design at Pesantren Babussalam Pagelaran, data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation with teachers and senior students. The findings reveal that Sufistic Nahw pedagogy transforms Nahw from a mere linguistic tool into a medium for tazkiyat al-nafs. By reviving symbolic interpretations of grammatical structures within the Sufi tradition and applying the takhallī–taḥallī–tajallī framework, this integration effectively fosters moral awareness, modesty (al-ḥayā’), and self-control among students. This research provides a significant pedagogical innovation by positioning linguistic education as a core component of spiritual development in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Traditional approach on security has emphasized on the issues of border and sovereignty of states. This paper examines the complex interplay between governance, human security and geopolitical transformations in the context of forced migration, focusing on the experience of Afghan refugees in Indonesia after 2021. The research argues that Indonesia’s “informal” governance approach, in the absence of a domestic legal framework, has placed refugees in a prolonged state of “limbo”. This situation has directly impacted on various dimensions of their human security, including economic, social and psychological security. Using content analysis and case study methods, this article shows that the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, as a geopolitical trigger, has exacerbated existing challenges and fueled multiple insecurities for refugees. The findings emphasize that relying solely on international cooperation is not enough and that countries need to establish a domestic legal framework to provide effective governance based on human dignity. Finally, this article emphasizes the importance of adopting a comprehensive human security approach to managing refugee crises and offers suggestions for policymakers in Indonesia and other host countries.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar–Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum in the Arabic Language Education Program at Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. The MBKM policy, introduced by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia, aims to strengthen graduate employability and institutional adaptability in the digital era. A qualitative case study design was employed. Participants were selected using purposive sampling targeting key academic stakeholders, followed by snowball sampling to identify additional informants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. Trustworthiness was ensured through triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal five core implementation strategies: leadership commitment, stakeholder engagement, MBKM-oriented curriculum redesign, external partnerships, and internal quality assurance. The process unfolded in three phases: planning, execution, and monitoring. The study demonstrates that coherent governance and collaborative networks are critical enablers of MBKM adoption. These findings provide practical insights for Islamic higher education institutions implementing reforms based on outcome-based and experiential learning.

Abstract

This study examines the role of religious diplomacy in addressing child marriage by analyzing the strategies of three transnational religious institutions: the Holy See, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the World Council of Churches. Using a systematic literature review method, 1,656 articles from the Scopus database were screened and analyzed through content and comparative analysis. The research investigates how these institutions influence the formation of international norms on child protection. Findings show that the Holy See utilizes formal moral diplomacy rooted in conservative family values, the World Council of Churches employs progressive campaigns grounded in gender justice and grassroots networks, while the Organization of Islamic Cooperation remains passive due to internal legal and political fragmentation. Key differentiators in effectiveness include theological flexibility, institutional authority, digital engagement, and commitment to international child rights frameworks. The study concludes that religious institutions can function as norm entrepreneurs shaping global child protection discourse. It highlights the need for inclusive, faith-based advocacy aligned with universal human rights, and recommends further research on collaborative efforts between religious actors and states. These findings contribute to the broader understanding of how religious diplomacy intersects with global justice, especially in contested moral arenas like child marriage

Abstract

Food availability is one of the important things that any state must  fulfill so that its people can live healthy and active lives. Currently, the world is encountered with food insecurity that threatens human welfare. The world, which has not yet recovered from the domino effects of climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and most recently the Russia-Ukraine war, is becoming increasingly unprepared for a global food crisis. Malnutrition, mass starvation, and famine will become major problems if this crisis continues. Warnings on   a global food crisis that are often ignored have put the global food system on the verge of collapse. With the increasing level of hunger, the issue of food crisis has become a hot topic of discussion again. Foreign media are competing to report on the food crisis particularly the causes of the rapidly developing food crisis. The purpose of this study is to find out how the media has framed the causes of the food crisis. This study will take samples from three major regional media, namely Al Jazeera, Asia Times, and Washington Post, during the period of April 2020 to June 2022. This research applies a qualitative research method using the content of foreign news. The data was processed using the N Vivo 12 Plus and analyzed using media framing theory and food insecurity. The findings of this study show that the issue of war between Russia and Ukraine is the most widely used form of framing by the three media. This is because the war  disrupts not only world food production but also food distribution. This research is expected to be developed using more news samples to get more varied results.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the authority of local government and policies regarding adultery and their implications on the risk of sexual violence by reflecting on the sexual behavior of students in Malang. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. The technique for determining subjects uses purposive sampling. Data analysis uses thematic analysis through open coding, axial coding, and pattern coding. The result demonstrates that the Malang City government, through its autonomy function, in its efforts to take action on cases of sexual behavior in Malang City, carries out preventive and repressive measures. This includes the enforcement of regional regulations regarding night entertainment venues, prostitution, and the RPJMD. The jurisdictional boundaries between the campus and local government are often contested, resulting in a lack of synergy in creating public security and order. This is driven by environmental factors and economic needs, with no role for the wider community in prevention efforts, thus contradicting the recognition of legal accommodations that exist in society. The role of the government or relevant stakeholders is necessary in fulfilling aspects of cultural protection, economic fulfillment, and preventive measures through the social environment, so that the focus is not solely on the victims.

Abstract

This study examines Indonesia's response to external economic shocks triggered by the Russia–Ukraine War from 2020 to 2025. It follows a phased process of market acclimatization and periodic economic resilience. Grounded in the theory of economic resilience—encompassing absorptive, adaptive, and transformative capacities—and perspectives on global supply chain restructuring, the research employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach. The analysis utilizes secondary trade data from TradeMap and SatuData (Ministry of Trade), exchange rate statistics from Bank Indonesia, and official trade and food policy documents to trace shifts in commodity flows, import structures, and policy responses. The findings indicate a sequential trajectory of resilience. Initial financial stabilization, reflecting absorptive capacity, occurred from 2020 to 2021. This was followed by policy recalibration, demonstrated through subsidy adjustments and import diversification, which showcased adaptive capacity from 2022 to 2023. Finally, between 2024 and 2025, structural reforms in trade configuration and food diversification signified the emergence of transformative capacity. These results suggest that Indonesia's response evolved from short-term stabilization towards progressively institutionalized economic resilience
