Abstract

This article explores the dynamic of Tengger communities life in order to defend its culture with regard to the expansion of Islam and the power of Indonesian government. The research were conducted in two villages, Ngadisari and Sapikerep, Probolinggo. Using the perspective of representation theory, this study  elaborate more detail about the strategy of the Tengger people in representing their identity in the midst of the dynamics of the changing time. The dynamics dialectic between the Tengger and power (Islam) have brought out two important propositions. First, because of the strong tradition and culture Tengger systems, both Hindu and Islamic ideology interpreted as a cultural system that only symbolically attached to the Tengger. Second, although impressed syncretic, in fact, Islam and Hinduism also established world view Tengger substantive and culturally. The second view is as commonly as Islam in Java, "Javanese Islam" behind its character as if syncretic. However, it shows "substantial Islam" because it is based on religious traditions of Sufism.

Abstract

This study explores the development of intercultural competence (ICC) among Indonesian exchange students in South Korea and the United States, focusing on their experiences of cultural adaptation and the development of key intercultural skills. Employing a qualitative research design, the study utilized semi-structured interviews with 20 Indonesian students to investigate how they navigated cultural differences and adapted to new environments. The results identify three key dimensions of ICC: emotional sensitivity, cultural awareness, and intercultural adaptability. Emotional sensitivity was crucial for managing culture shock and emotional adaptation to the host culture. Cultural awareness, which involved recognizing and understanding cultural differences, enabled students to adjust their perceptions and behaviors. Intercultural adaptability, the ability to modify communication styles and social practices, was essential for effective engagement in both academic and social settings. The study contributes to the existing body of literature on international student experiences by providing insights into the specific challenges faced by Indonesian students and offering practical recommendations for improving support systems to foster intercultural competence. The findings highlight the dynamic nature of ICC as a process that evolves through emotional, cognitive, and behavioral adjustments. Future research should focus on the long-term impacts of intercultural experiences on students' personal and professional lives, as well as the role of cultural contexts in shaping ICC development.

Abstract

In today's increasingly competitive era, Islamic education faces significant challenges in maintaining its relevance and enhancing its competitiveness. Many Islamic educational institutions struggle to attract public interest, both in terms of academic quality and institutional management. One potential solution lies in visionary leadership combined with a strong corporate culture. Visionary leadership not only sets the institution’s direction and goals but also fosters innovation and strategies that adapt to changing times. Meanwhile, a robust corporate culture establishes a solid institutional identity, strengthens loyalty, and creates a conducive environment for educational growth and development. This study employs the library research method by analyzing various relevant literatures to understand the relationship between these concepts in the context of transformative Islamic education. The findings indicate that the synergy between visionary leadership and corporate culture enhances institutional competitiveness, broadens its appeal to the public, and ensures sustainability amid globalization. The study’s implications emphasize the need for managerial reform in Islamic educational institutions to remain relevant, innovative, and highly competitive in the digital era.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to understand the root cause of the Soccer supporters’ violence as well as to explore its pattern. A case study was taken from the Persebaya supporters, which are well known as “Bonek.” This research was conducted using the integrative method of quantitave and qualitative design. The result indicated that the supporter’s violent behavior isn’t caused by one aspect only, but it is a multifaceted psychosocial problem, which includes an over-fanaticism, a lack of emotional control, a disappointing management of the soccer match, and a low socioeconomic status. If the main factors such as poverty, unemployment, the management of soccer match, and the emotional behavior control aren’t improved, then the next outbreak of supporters’ violence is only a matter of time and intensity.

Abstract

Intergroup conflicts in sport, especially when charged with violence, is a complex pheno- mena and could be manifested differently in shape and realization from time to time. This study was keen to find empirical data concerning harsh conflicts between two traditional martial art organiza- tions namely the Pencak Silat Setia Hati Terate (SHT) and Pencak Silat Setia Hati Tunas Muda Wi- nongo (SHW). These data were then used as a foundation to build a theoretical construct concerning violent behavior in sport. This study was conducted using a qualitative approach by case study to collect data. It is concluded that conflict happened due to a distorted social identity building process.

Abstract

During President Trump's first term, he declared a US-China trade war, which formed numerous opportunities for developing countries. It also urges multinational corporations to relocate their manufacturing factories outside of the US-China region to prevent further increasing tariff. This study used "the dependency theory" to understand that Indonesia is the biggest economy in ASEAN, despite Nigeria and South Africa as the largest economies in Africa.  As Sierra Leone's geographical position connects South America, Africa, and Asia by Sea, but they did not have any significant advantages during the trade war, in comparison to Vietnam. Therefore, this study compares and analyzes two forms of policy competition, Incentives-Based (IBC) and Rules-Based (RBC), to solve the issue of how these Global South nations should benefit from the Trump tariff war. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, it examines the opportunities for the tariff wars ahead between developed countries, which may lead to another great recession. As the results, this study shows that policies do not accommodate to investors as those in Vietnam, whose population is smaller than Indonesia's. Obviously, Nigeria is serving as an alternative for investment, increasing its GDP and creating a favorable public perception of free trade.

Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct Islamic theology through the lens of Nusantara spirituality by synthesizing local wisdom, social philosophy, and theological ethics. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, twenty-three peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025 were analyzed to identify conceptual patterns, theoretical frameworks, and methodological trends. The research focuses on three core questions: (1) how local wisdom, religious tolerance, and spirituality are conceptualized within social and theological contexts; (2) what theoretical and methodological approaches integrate Islamic theology, indigenous knowledge, and social philosophy; and (3) what gaps and directions emerge concerning spiritual–ecological ethics and dialogical spirituality. The results indicate that local wisdom functions as a moral epistemology connecting culture, faith, and social ethics. The reviewed studies demonstrate that spirituality is not confined to ritual practice but serves as a foundation for religious tolerance, ecological ethics, and community resilience. Methodologically, the combination of two-way seeing, cultural interface, and theological reflection fosters an integrative paradigm that bridges revelation (wahy) and reason (‘aql). The study introduces the concept of Filsafat Sosial Teologis Nusantara (Nusantara Theological Social Philosophy), which positions spirituality as a dialogical and ecological ethics for plural societies. In conclusion, this research contributes to the decolonization of Islamic theology by emphasizing contextual, participatory, and intercultural approaches. It provides a theoretical basis for peace education, interfaith dialogue, and sustainable social harmony rooted in the spiritual values of Nusantara.
