Abstract

Abstract

Buko Poso Village located in Way Serdang District, Mesuji Regency has a fairly good quantity and quality of water, but this potential has not been utilized for aquaculture activities. The purpose of this study is to analyze the feasibility of the location in Buko Poso Village, Mesuji, Lampung as a location for aquaculture activities. Field observation activities include direct (in situ) and indirect (ex situ) water quality measurements at four different locations, soil sampling, mapping using GPS and drones, market price surveys. Topographic map depicts Buko Poso Village included in the lowland area with a research area of 4.9 ha. The results of data analysis on water quality using the scoring method show that Buko Poso Village tends to be in class S3 (slightly appropriate), meaning that it has serious limiting factors so that to improve water quality, special treatment is needed. The soil condition in Buko Poso Village is mostly clay textured. Commodities that are suitable for cultivation include baung fish, jelawat fish, belida fish, snakehead fish, and tilapia which have a fairly high economic value.

Abstract

Solid organic waste (PSW) in shrimp ponds contains relatively high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus and can endanger the ecological balance of the waters. This study evaluates the ability of sea cucumber Holothuria scabra to remove nitrogen and phosphorus loads from shrimp pond sediment waste in water and sediment. Sea cucumbers were reared for 40 days with a density of 20 individuals/m2 (average body weight 2.65±0.09 g) and a double-bottom recirculation system. Five levels of PSW accumulation were inserted into the aquarium substrate and were the sole source of nutrition for sea cucumbers without additional feeding: 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% (with three replications). The results showed that increasing the PSW content in the aquarium research substrate significantly increased the substrate's TOC, TN, and TP content and increased the concentrations of TOM, DOC, NH3, NO2, and PO4 in the water column. The activity of sea cucumbers in utilizing PSW nutrients in all treatments up to a PSW level of 50% significantly reduced TOC, TN, and TP in sediments. This activity also substantially removes the concentration of TOM, DOC, NH3, NO2, and PO4 in the water. It is estimated that every kilogram of H. scabra can remove up to 12.65-12.73 g of nitrogen/day and 2.57-2.60 g of phosphorus/day contained in the solid organic waste of shrimp ponds. Therefore, this study concluded that H. scabra has great potential to be used as integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) species, especially to remove nitrogen and phosphorus loads from shrimp pond sediment waste in waters.

Abstract

A synthetic carp population carp was formed by combining five Indonesian carp strains, namely Majalaya, Rajadanu, Sutisna, Wildan, and Sinyonya. The synthetic carp has the potential to be developed as strains resistant to ammonia. This study aimed to analyze the performance of the synthetic carp population as a candidate to form high ammoniaresistant carp. Evaluation of tolerance to high concentrations of environmental ammonia was carried out by adding 200 ppm NH Cl to  the synthetic carp seed’s rearing media. The control treatment was rearing the seed without the addition of NH 4 Cl. The research used three units of aquarium sized 60x40x40 cm to measure the fish’s gills ventilation rate and two units for sampling. The treatments were repeated three times with 30 test fish per aquarium with an average weight of 18.32 ± 3.29 g per fish. The measurement of CO1 gene expression was performed using the qPCR method. The results showed that the ventilation rate of the synthetic carp with high ammonia resistance was 34.00 ± 10.54 per minute aperture, higher than the unconscious and control groups. The level of CO1 gene 4 expression in the synthetic population of high ammonia-resistant carp was higher than in the unconscious and control groups. In addition, the water quality parameters of the treatment rearing media were within the normal values for carp farming.

Abstract

Leaking ponds based on soil is often a problem in shrimp farming. This can trigger a potential increase in production costs, so that vaname shrimp farmers can experience losses. One solution that can be sought to prevent leakage of ponds based on soil is soil stabilization, namely by adding additives to the soil in the form of soil stabilizer liquid. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of providing soil stabilizer with a chemical base that has polymer ionic bonds in the soil of the vannamei shrimp (Litopeneaus vanamei) culture container. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with two treatments, namely control and treatment with the addition of soil stabilizer fluid with the same dose, each with four replications. The research was carried out through four stages, namely the stage of testing soil properties, making soil samples, Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) test, and soil permeability. The results of the treatment with soil stabilizer fluid had an effect on the permeability of the sample soil. The control coefficient value is 4.94 x 10-7, while for the sample soil treatment, the average value is 2.62 x 10-7. Based on the results of statistical tests, the results were significantly different from the treatment soil. The pressure strength test after being tested using statistical analysis did not differ between treatments. The addition of soil stabilizer can reduce the value of soil permeability. Provision of soil stabilizer can reduce the value of permeability up to 47%. However, the addition of the soil stabilizer did not produce a significant difference in pressure strength..

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim to evaluate the performance of Batak fish (Tor soro) blood glucose in response to stocking density stress. Fish with an average of 2.21 g with a weight of 27 individuals were given stocking density stress by inserting them into 9 cylindrical containers of 200.96 cm2 and 3 L volume of peat water with stocking differently for 72 hours. These stocking density treatments consisted of A (2 fishes/0.02 m2), B (3 fishes/0.02 m2), C (4 fishes/0.02 m2) and E (5 fishes/0.02 m2) with three repetitions. Blood glucose was collected from 1 fish per container during 72 hours. The preliminary test was conducted to determine the oxygen demand of fish through the oxygen consumption level test, in which the oxygen demand from the fish was calculated in accordance to the density used. The average value of blood glucose levels of Batak fish that were given the stress of stocking density 2 fishes/0.02 m2, 3 fishes/0.02 m2, 4 fishes/0.02 m2, and 5 fishes/0.02 m2 tend to be low, as much as 53 mg/dL, 52.67 mg/dL, 49.33 mg/dL and 39.63 mg/dL respectively. The response of blood glucose to stocking density stress resulted in stocking recommendations for culture Batak fish ranging from 100-250 fish/m2 with 2,21-3,12 fish/ gram.

Abstract

The estuary of Salok Api River in Balikpapan City is geographically located right across the Makassar Strait which is a strategic area supporting the economy of the surrounding city. The aquatic environment in any watershed acts as a carrier of various pollutants and affects the water quality in the estuarine area. The main objective of this study is to assess and identify pollutants that flow into the water environment around extensive ponds in Balikpapan City for aquaculture activities. The STORET method was used in this study to determine the water quality status. Water quality data were collected at six different locations around extensive ponds in Balikpapan City in February - March of 2023. A total of 13 water quality parameters (brightness, temperature, TDS, EC, salinity, pH, DO, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, BOD, and COD) were analyzed at six sites to assess the STORET index at each site. The average STORET index at the six sites was (-32, -26, -26, -26, -26, and -38). The results showed that four sites were classified as moderately polluted and the other two sites were classified as heavily polluted. The STORET index at each location is high and the implication is that the area has moderate to poor water quality status due to several parameters such as EC, salinity, pH, DO, ammonia, phosphate, and COD.

Abstract

Mahseer (Neolissochilus soro) grows and develops in Indonesian lakes and rivers. However, in line with the increase in population, the pollution load that enters water bodies is increasing due to anthropogenic activities along the river. One of the chemicals that can potentially be a source of water pollution is Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate (LAS). This study aims to determine the lethal toxicity of LAS surfactant to mahseer and to analyze the sub-lethal effect of this surfactant on the biological, physiological, and histological conditions of mahseer seeds. Parameters studied included lethal toxicity (LC50), sub-lethal toxicity, and biological, histological, and hematological conditions. The results showed that the LAS surfactant had an LC50-96 hour value of 6.14 mg/L in mahseer and was classified as highly toxic. Fish exposed to LAS for 40 days experienced a decrease in specific growth rate and feed efficiency as the surfactant concentration increased. Exposure to LAS also decreases the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and blood sugar levels while increasing the number of leukocytes. There was also damage to the gills of fish exposed to LAS. In general, the sub-lethal concentration of LAS negatively affected mahseer seeds.

Abstract

Belawan is a coastal area located in Medan Belawan District, North Sumatra Province. The aim of the research is to determine the feasibility status of the study location if it is developed as a location for floating net cages (KJA). The research was carried out in the sea waters of Belawan in August–September 2022. The research parameters observed during the research were hydrooceanographic data and water quality data including physical parameters, chemical parameters, biological parameters. Determination of water quality status using the STORET Index, CCME WQI Index and principal component analysis (PCA). Observation parameters during the research were clinical symptoms, histological observations and growth performance of Asian sea bass. The research results show that tides, COD and turbidity are parameters that do not comply with water quality standards. The types of phytoplankton consist of 15 species and 4 classes, namely Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Bacyllariophyceae and Dynophyceae. Observation total vibrio count (TVC) shows that in all water samples it is Log 105 CFU/mL and in snapper organs (gills, liver, kidneys) there are Log 104-105 CFU/g. The results of the research can be concluded that for each zone in Belawan waters there is no difference in the level of pollution between zones in terms of the STORET index (moderately polluted) and the CCME WQI index (marginal) with limiting factors namely COD and turbidity. Belawan waters are in less than suitable condition in August–September for snapper cultivation activities in floating net cages (KJA) characterized by low SR and ADG values. Keywords: Belawan Waters, CCME WQI index, STORET index, principal component analysis (PCA), water quality monitoring ABSTRAK Belawan termasuk kawasan pesisir yang terletak di Kecamatan Medan Belawan, Provinsi Sumatera Utara.
