Abstract

Bullying is a deliberate and repeated act of oppression by an individual or group with greater power against a weaker party, with serious impacts on the victim’s psychological condition. This study aims to identify the types of self-defence mechanisms currently employed by victims of bullying. A qualitative approach with a case study method was used, involving two female students from Universitas Negeri Padang as the main subjects, with additional informants including parents and close friends. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed thematically. The results show that both subjects employed various self-defence mechanisms, including both adaptive and maladaptive types. Identified mechanisms include acting out, isolation, splitting, rationalization, dissociation, somatization, displacement, humor, sublimation, anticipation, altruism, and suppression. These patterns reflect the subjects’ efforts to cope with psychological pressure resulting from bullying experiences, with variations in responses influenced by the intensity of the events, social support, and individual characteristics. The findings underscore the importance of understanding self-defence mechanisms in counseling practice to assist bullying victims in developing more adaptive coping strategies and supporting their long-term emotional recovery process.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the high number of adolescents experiencing low self-esteem, with one of the main contributing factors being an unstable family environment or broken home. The research aims to describe the self-esteem of students from broken home families at SMK Negeri 2 Bukittinggi, based on five key aspects: (1) overall self-esteem, (2) significance, (3) competence, (4) virtue, and (5) power. A quantitative descriptive method was employed, with a sample of 144 students selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a self-esteem questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistical techniques. The results indicate that: (1) overall self-esteem falls into the low category, (2) the aspects of significance and competence are in the moderate category, and (3) the aspects of virtue and power are in the low category. These findings suggest that students from broken home families tend to have weak self-confidence and self-perception, particularly regarding personal virtue and strength. The study implies that Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers play a vital role in providing personal development services through individual counseling, group guidance, information services, and classroom guidance to holistically enhance students' self-esteem.

Abstract

A dynamics have not been formally documented in written form, posing a risk of distorting the collective memory of the younger generation. This article aims to document the history of the formation of Nagari Ambuang Kapua, analyze the underlying factors behind the lack of historical documentation, and map its potential as an autonomous region. The research method utilized is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques consisting of in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. The results indicate that the naming and formation of the region were grounded in the principle of "Bulek Aia Dek Pambuluah, Bulek Kato Dek Mufakat" through the traditional council of siriah sakapua at Puncak Guguak. Although officially established as a nagari in 2013, the region is strongly supported by a social structure comprising six main tribes. The primary potential of the nagari lies in the agricultural sector, alongside the local wisdom of Ratik Tulak Bala, which holds significant potential to be developed into religious tourism. This study implies the critical importance of integrating traditional customary laws with modern administration as a foundation for sustainable autonomous regional development

Abstract

Risky sexual behavior among Indonesian adolescents continues to increase, posing significant risks to health, educational outcomes, and social stability. Information-based educational approaches are often insufficient because they focus primarily on knowledge delivery, without adequately developing psychosocial skills such as assertiveness in managing peer pressure and in establishing personal boundaries. This study employed a quantitative approach using a single-group interrupted time series design with four baseline measurements to examine the effectiveness of group counseling services based on assertiveness training techniques in improving adolescents’ awareness of healthy sexual behavior. Participants consisted of nine 11th-grade students (five females and four males; mean age = 16.8 years) from a public senior high school in Padang, Indonesia. Data were collected using the MESSRA Scale, a 35-item instrument with good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.87). Measurements were conducted across eight observation points (O1-O8), including four baseline and four post-intervention assessments. The results showed a significant increase in awareness scores from a mean of 101.72 (moderate category) to 128.69 (high category), with a large effect size (r = 0.71). All participants demonstrated improvement, with N-Gain scores categorized as moderate to high. These findings suggest that assertiveness training-based group counseling represents a structured, skill-oriented intervention that can be effectively integrated into school counseling curricula and adolescent reproductive health programs as a preventive strategy. Keywords: adolescents, assertive training, group counseling, healthy sexual behavior, school counseling.

Abstract

Bullying in the school environment is a serious problem that has an impact on the social development and psychological health of students. The perpetrator's low empathy is one of the factors that strengthen aggressive behavior. Although psychodrama techniques have been known as an effective experiential counseling approach, their integration with local cultural values such as Gurindam 12 has not been extensively tested quantitatively, particularly in Indonesia. This study aims to test the effectiveness of group counseling with psychodrama techniques loaded with the value of Gurindam 12 in increasing the empathy of bullies. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. A total of 20 students with high levels of bullying and low empathy were selected through purposive sampling and divided into experimental (n=10) and control (n=10) groups. The instrument used was an adaptation of the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (α = 0.917). Data analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank and Kolmogorov-Smirnov Two-Independent-Samples tests. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group (mean from 115.3 to 181.0; N-Gain of 70.0 in the high category) compared to the control group (mean from 108.4 to 166.3; N-Gain of 57.5 in the moderate category), with significanta differences between-group difference (Z=2.236; p=0.003). These findings suggest that integrating cultural values into psychodrama effectively enhances empathy and supports student character building. Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this comprehensive literature review critically synthesizes evidence on how industrial internships, work-based learning, and career guidance practices are experienced by students in vocational education and how these practices, in turn, influence students' career readiness and employability outcomes. The review process followed the PRISMA 2020 reporting framework standards. An initial pool of 401 documents was gathered from the Scopus database on 6 July 2026. The search was done using a Boolean string. After filtering out, 257 items were considered for further screening. After the screening and a full-text eligibility check against a structured inclusion/exclusion matrix and a FICO (Focus, Information, Context, Outcome) quality threshold (scored 0-8, with a minimum composite of 4 required for inclusion), 50 articles were deemed suitable for thematic synthesis using Thomas and Harden's thematic approach, with 10 leading examples being illustrated in depth. Screening and eligibility decisions were done by following one set of rules instead of using two raters who would check each other's work. This is a methodological limitation that is further discussed in the full text. Thematic synthesis grouped by three research questions shows that (1) work-based learning models are extensively used for converting vocational curricula into competences relevant to work; (2) personal attributes such as career self-confidence, career resilience, and clear vocational identity, combined with external factors like good teaching, industry exposure, and social support, not only influence students' career decisions but also their ability to find employment during internship; and (3) well-designed career guidance and counselling services, which are part of institutional industry link-and-match partnerships, seem to have a positive impact on school-to-work transition outcomes, although guidance services are still very much scattered and hardly evaluated in many countries. From a practitioner's perspective, the review suggests that formalizing internship supervision, incorporating career counseling into vocational courses at the beginning, and reinforcing the industry-school partnership mechanisms are some of the ways forward.
