Abstract

Introduction: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) often presents at an inoperable or an advanced stage in which complete resection is not possible. In such scenario, chemotherapy often is the only option to improve patient’s survival. Severe hyperbilirubinemia, often associated with higher risk of developing chemotherapy-related adverse event, might complicates one’s decision in choosing chemotherapy regimen. Case Report: We present a case of 63-year-old post-operative CCA patient with residual mass and severe hyperbilirubinemia. The patient completed six cycles of gemcitabine (1000 mg/m2, day 1 and 8) and cisplatin (70 mg/m2, day 1) every 3 weeks with tolerable side effect. No sign of residual tumor was observed on CT-Scan performed one-month post chemotherapy. Conclusion: Combination of cisplatin and gemcitabine may offer safe treatment option for post-operative residual CCA patient presenting with hyperbilirubinemia.

Abstract

Rituximab in combination with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (R-CHOP) is currently the most widely used first-line therapyfor aggressive B-cell lymphomas. However, many patients, including thosewith organ dysfunction, may not tolerate the toxicities associated with thisregimen. Recent data from the phase III study group indolent lymphomas(StiL) non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL)-1 trial suggested that bendamustine plusrituximab were superior in effectiveness and tolerability compared to R-CHOPin the treatment of indolent and mantle cell lymphomas. Preliminary studyhas indicated the effective use of bendamustine alone or in combination inthe treatment of aggressive B-cell lymphomas as well. A 70-year-old malewith heavily treated relapsed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) showedcomplete remission (CR) after receiving 8 cycles of rituximab in combinationwith bendamustine as 3rd line treatment. Bendamustine has demonstratedconsiderable efficacy and well-tolerated therapy in relapsed DLBCL patients. Our case report demonstrated that treating patients with bendamustinebasedregimen, even in the setting of organ impairment and elderly is safeand effective. Given the increasing evidence of its effectiveness, furtherinvestigation of bendamustine’s safety and tolerability aspects in specialgroups is recommended such as those with renal impairment.

Abstract

Hydroponics is the cultivation of plants by only utilizing water without using soil. The priority is to fulfill nutritional needs for plants. The water needed in hydroponic planting is certainly less than the water requirement in cultivating plants with soil. With the current condition of the area of agricultural land which is decreasing along with the increase in residential land and land conversion that is increasingly unable to be controlled. If left unchecked, of course, it will be very worrying about the supply of food that can be obtained from agriculture. To avoid shortages of food, new techniques are needed in the agriculture. For example, planting techniques that can be done without using soil media, namely by hydroponic techniques. Although planting is done in water, but hydroponic techniques require little water. So that hydroponic planting is very suitable to try in areas that have minimal water supply. In order to increase agricultural production, the government strongly supports efforts to develop agricultural technology and increase science and technology. The target of this hydroponic planting can be started from the household. In general, housewives who do not work have a lot of free time, so they can develop hydroponic vegetables in their yard. The benefits that can be obtained from planting hydroponic are making beautiful gardens and the results of hydroponic planting will provide nutritional intake for the family. A better benefit is being able to provide economic benefits to support the family economy.

Abstract

Fisheries activity in Lampung Bay which has been very active in recent years is the cultivation of green mussels (P. viridis) for consumption. Located in Teluk Betung Timur sub-district, this is considered appropriate because of the environmental parameters that support the life of P. viridis. The location of P. viridis cultivation is not far from coastal settlements (±500-600 m from settlements). Anthropogenic activities of coastal residents as well as the use of plastic materials in the cultivation are concerned to be the source of microplastic contamination that found in P. viridis. This study aims to determine the presence and characteristics of microplastics in P. viridis as well as to compare the abundance of microplastics in the gills and digestive organs. Taking 30 P. viridis by purposive sampling with homogeneous size. The samples were analyzed by microplastics in chemical oceanography and biology micro Laboratory, FPIK, IPB University. P. viridis tissue was destructed by using 10% KOH solution at a ratio of 1:3 (m/v) at 60 °C for 24 hours and then filtered using a 1.6 µm Whatman GF/A filter paper. Abundance of microplastics in whole soft tissue were 0.53±0.7 mgl/g. The gill organs were found to be more microplastic than the digestive organs (p<0.05). The fragments microplastic is most commonly found in intact tissues and digestive organs, while fiber is mostly found in the gills of P. viridis. Blue color and size <100 µm were most commonly found in intact tissues, gills and digestive organs of P. viridis.
